My niece had it a couple weeks ago. But we went out for a family dinner the night before she started puking. She took down 8 adults and 2 kids! My mom started calling her Typhoid Avery.
Unfortunately one of the adults was my dh and the 2 kids were mine..... I was lucky I didnt end up ill as I was 39.5 weeks pregnant. |

I had it and it is BAD. It also does not like to go away. I wound up in an ambulance last Friday thanks to severe dehydration. Take it seriously! |

I hate hearing this. I dread the stomach virus now. That's what caused Claire's gastroparesis last year and she was sick for 9 months.
It's a big fear of mine that it will happen to her again. Just when she's gained back all the weight she lost and has the normal amount of energy again.
Keep it away!!!!!! |

Two nights ago, I thought for sure I was getting ready to get hit with it. I was so nauseous I couldn't sleep - but nothing ever came of it, and I have felt fine since.
I have heard it is AWFUL and to top it off, the dehydration has to make it horrendous.
I just want to stay in my house until springtime comes ... or even better, if I could go hide in a cave somewhere, that would be even better.
Feel better soon if you have it ... |

My kids have been sick WAY more often this winter with stomach bugs than ever before. It's lingered for quite awhile. It'll take one of them out for a day or two, then another, then another...And then start around again. Dh and I have been spared though.
It hasn't been lasting long with each single bout, but we can't seem to get it out of the house! I am thankful, though, that we haven't had to deal with anything else (like the flu).

Luckily I have compazine for cyclical vomiting( lovely parting gift from a Norovirus years ago..) , so if my dd does have it (she feels luck garbage and I'm home with her... I won't be in the er with iv nausea meds. I loathe gastroenteritis. It's evil.

My son had it earlier in the week. I read if you drink 100% Welch's grape juice (no white grape juice or anything added to it) that it can help others not get it. I drank it 3 times a day and believe it kept it away!
If you do have it, feel better soon!

I recently heard from a doctor that I know that if you get norovirus, you are contagious for NINE days, even when you've stopped showing any symptoms.

I had it and it was awful in that it was very intense. I went from the bed to the toilet to the shower for two days and then I slept. I woke to sip ginger ale. It came with a fever and eventually a bad headache. It definitely zapped the energy out of me for a good week.
I cannot imagine having this virus while vacationing, like on a cruise ship. I was so thankful to be in my own home.
Also, no one else close to me came down with it.

Just curious did any of you have the flu shot and are still getting this sick? And is the norovirus a strain that the shot won't cover? I've never heard of norovirus as much as I have this year. Several schools close to us have shut for 4-5 days at a time cleaning/scrubbing and disinfecting the school. Kids and teachers have missed so much school b/c of the norovirus.
On Wednesday I went home work after being here an hour with chills/sweats and tummy ache. I slept most of the day and all night but woke up Thursdy feeling fine. My mom said since I had the flu shot I didn't get it as bad as if I hadn't. Not sure just wondering
Feel better everyone | |

Norovirus is not influenza. The flue shot would not protect against norovirus. |

Yes, and it just seems to go around and around and around. However, it doesn't last for more than a day or two.
Norovirus is not influenza. The flue shot would not protect against norovirus.
Thank you. Much different from the flu but the term "flu" seems to be the "catch all" term for any sickness or virus going around. |

DH had it last week. Check out the CDC website for accurate facts about this virus. It doesn't last long (2-3 days of symptoms) but the person with the virus is very contagious.
Following the advice on the CDC website I was able to keep my son and I from getting it too-big deal for us since he moved into his dorm room last week.
DH did get the Norovirus right after he had the flu. I think his body was so depleted by that time that when he was exposed to the Norovirus it was easier for him to catch it. They are two different viruses.
Hugs to all of the Peas who are sick now. I'm at the end of a nasty week long battle with a cold.

I had it. It came on very suddenly. I got violently sick (umm...both ways). I was queasy and in bed the rest of the day. Better after 24 hours, although still a little queasy. But I only got truly sick one time (thankfully).
My friend got it. (She's pregnant). Lasted 7+ days. She had to go the the hospital for IV fluids.
I think I was lucky. Definitely making the rounds here. |

I had it - or something like it - about 2 weeks ago. I went to bed at about 11 p.m. and felt completely healthy. Woke up at 3 a.m. and wasn't sure if I would make it to the bathroom. It was BRUTAL for about 12 hours - both directions. I tried to sip some water to rinse my mouth out at the bathroom sink and it barely hit my throat before it went right back up right into the sink. Didn't even have time to react. The throwing up part 'only' lasted about 8 hours though.
I did have a fever for about 24 hours, and was dehydrated and exhausted ...but felt remarkably better the next day. I stayed home from work one more day to be safe and make sure I wouldn't infect anyone else, then I was fine. |

Yep. DD has had it since Monday. The doc said the strain going around here lasts 5-7 days.
