My hair blowdryer quit working this morning. This is the third blowdryer to go out on me in two years. Is this normal? I don't think I abuse my blowdryer. I use it once in the mornings, as I would imagine most people do. I'm beginning to think it's a conspiracy that the manufacturers are giving them a 9 month life span so that I will have to buy a new one. Kind of like panty hose.
Anyone else notice this?

I'm only on my third dryer in about 25 years.
Do you clean off the air intake? Mine has a little screen that's removable. It gets all linty. If I didn't clean it, it would overheat. Don't ask me how I know this.

Mine last about 3-4 years. I've been buying cheap Conair ones at Target (under $20). I dry my hair maybe 5x a week. Sounds like you've had some lemons!!
I'm actually switching brands and spending more in my next dryer. My BF has had her platinum Hot Tools dryer for about 12 years - so I'm going to get one of my own.

I bought mine like 7-8 years ago, and it's still going strong. But I don't use it everyday anymore. |

Mine last anywhere from 3 to 10 years. Some seem to need more cleaning of the screen than others. The Sunbeam I have right now, doesn't seem to collect the lint. I can't figure why. I've been using it for 3 years, now. |

Mine last forever. I have fine hair and use my hair dryer about once a week. I've had good luck with con-air. May not be a good brand for someone else with thick hair and uses a dryer daily.

I've only had a few on the last 30 years. Been drying my hair pretty much every day since I was in my teens (except in the 80s when I had a perm).
I clean mine every few months.
The last dryer I had would stop working while I was using it. I just gave it a shake and it worked again. Then one day the thing popped and sparks shot all over and dang near burned up my hair. The cord had bent and twisted near the base of the dryer but I never noticed it until the dramatic finale. PSA Check your cord when you clean your dryer.

Mine cost $120 about 15 years ago and it is fantastic! I bought it through my hair dresser. It wasn't as good as the one she uses but better then buying from a drug store.

I also bought a refurbished T3 off of Amazon. It lasted about six months and I didn't see any difference in how it dried my hair. My cheap Conair dryers from Target last for years. I'm back to using the cheap ones. |

Almost 25 years........ Wish I knew where my DS got it. It is a Conair Pro. I worry every time I use it that it might die. I have bought a backup just in case.

I must be buying lemons too. I have replaced 3 hair dryers in the last 6 years or so. One was a high end salon brand that I got for half price $65. One of my Hot Tools dryers only lasted a year before it almost started my hair on fire! I do clean the screen every month too.
I usually buy mine from Ulta. I dry my hair 6 out of 7 days a week. |

I still have my blow dryer from high school, from 12 years ago. My husband uses it and says it works just fine. I bought a slightly nicer one because it works better on my frizzy hair. I've had that one for at least three years and it's working perfectly. Neither of the hair dryers are fancy, they were both purchased at WalMart for under $30.
I've never cleaned out the filter on either of them! Yikes.

I'm on my second hair dryer I've owned in my life, so I'd say they usually last over 10 years. I haven't a clue how long I've owned my current one. It's an inexpensive Conair. It dries just fine. I use it three times a week or so now, but when I first bought it I had short hair and used it daily.
How old is your house? Have you had your electrical circuits checked recently? Maybe they are just a little bit wonky and are burning out your dryers. |

If you are going through hair dryers quickly take a second to see how you store it. Do you wrap the cord tightly around the dryer? Do you do it while it is still warm? It isnt wise to wrap the cord around the dryer because it will fray the wires inside of the plastic.

Mine usually last a year sometimes more. I usually try t buy the ones in at least the $30 range and they have lasted longer than a year. I have super thick hair so it takes me about 10-15 mins to dry it longer if it's a humid day. So I know my dryer is pretty hot by the time I'm done. |

Well, I have a professional BabyBliss, and I've had that for 2 years. The T3 didn't last 6 months, and I was pissed. The BabyBliss is wonderful, although it exercises your arm--it's that heavy. Best drier that I've bought to date.

I have had my T3 for about 5 years, I think, and love it. Best hairdryer I've ever used and worth every penny. I dry my hair 5 or 6 days a week.
DH uses a Conair that must be at least 10 years old by now. He uses it every day and until I bought myself the T3, we both used it almost every day.

I have very thick mid-length hair. I was going through cheaper hair dryers about 1-2 a year. I then purchased one from a Trade Secret store that was closing down. It was normally $130, marked down to $65 (not remembering the brand at the moment). I haven't had to buy one since and that was almost 3 years ago. |

The one we have now we've had for about 1 1/2 years. We replaced our old own because it sparked and made popping noises. We had that one for probably at least 10-12 years. We buy the cheapest we can find. I think the one we have now was only about $15 at walmart. We also found cheap ones tend to last a lot longer than our friends who buy expensive ones.

I had one that lasted only 1 or 2 years. When I looked at the intake, I saw all kinds of dust and "fuzz".
I've had my current one for over 5 years (it was a cheap one), but I make sure to clean off the screens on the intake on a regular basis. I check the screen every week and remove the lint that accummulates there.

I bought the Babyliss also, and I love it!
My last one I think was a drugstore one and it lasted for a good 5 or 6 years until I dropped it one too many times and sparks started flying out of it. Other than me dropping it, there was nothing wrong with it. I only dry my hair once or twice a week, so I expect them to last a long time.

Elenort! I have had the exact same trouble lately! I bought a new hair dryer last in July (To replace one that wasn't quite a year old.) and it sparked and went out on me last month! The manufacturer gave me and address to ship it to and they will send me a new one. In the meantime I bought another one from Sally's Beauty Supply. I didn't purchase the most, nor the least expensive model. I made my purchase based on the store associates recommendation, so we'll see.
I clean mine often and use it daily.
Let me know if you find one that works long-term for you!!
Good luck! | |
