***friend removed the TMI Facebook post***

A friend of mine shared that her dh was taking ds out to have "the talk.". DS is leaving a boy and coming back a man. Tears dripping down her face as she hugs him goodbye. Instead of just one reason for her kid to be traumatized over this, now there are several.

ETA I probably should have used "awkward " in place of "traumatized" but thanks to mom he probably will be traumatized.

Whut??? Why on Earth would you ever post something like that on such a personal and public (amongst your friends and family) place??? Does she have a daughter? Is she planning on announcing when her daughter gets her first period? I would kill my mother if she did that to me!

So, you think it was a mistake when I shared that my dd had just gotten her first period and how we talked about her becoming a woman and how she was now a part of the sisterhood?

It got like 10 likes. I thought it was touching and sweet.

That's crazy-overshare.

I have 2 overshares recently that hit my FB feed. (One didn't start out as an overshare, but morphed into one.)

1. Picture of 10 year old girl. Everyone commenting about how tall she's getting. Morphs into what size clothes she wears and how she's getting curves and soon she'll be "becoming a woman". Really?

2. Edited to removed #2 because she's a scrapbooker and my luck she'll see this.

Wow. That's all kinds of wrong. And kind of disgusting to be honest. What a way to break a bond of trust. She needs to rein it in and get over herself and stop sharing information that is not hers to share.

And yes, Peabay, I would consider that a mistake. As a daughter, I would stop sharing anything with you because I would feel like I couldn't trust you to be discreet about my life if you were my mother. Sorry. I just don't trust people who overshare like that about business that is not theirs to share. I learned the hard way who I can and cannot share things with, and it was from a scenario much like this. To this day, I don't trust certain information with certain people unless I want it broadcast to the world.

Grinning cat got me thinking, I am not being a good friend if I don't address this with her. I was about to call her and checked fb one more time. Thankfully she already removed the post.

My ds14 doesn't like me sharing any of his business, even funny anecdotes. He needs to lighten up a little. But to share something like that would devastate him.

I had a dad post that very thing on his FB wall. When I pointed out that his daughter would probably be mortified if she knew he'd shared that, I was told that we're no longer living in the Victorian Age.

This is just wrong on so many levels! Not just the obvious FB oversharing, but the over-dramatic reaction. Tears down her face? Coming back a "man?" OY! He's talking to Dad about the birds and the bees, not going off to war. This woman seriously needs to get a grip, or this kid is going to be scarred for life.

I think there was a scene from a sitcom or a movie in the '80's where Dad says awkwardly to Son that it's time they talked about women, and Son says, "Sure, Dad, what do you want to know?"

Peabay so glad you are kidding!

My brother and I would have disowned our parents if they ever did something like that to us. That is something that is told to no one (other than mom for the girl and dad for the boy).

Way too much info for her to share. Poor kid! I also hate when people act like just hearing "the talk" makes them a man or woman. I always thought it was the age 18. haha!

There's a girl in my feed that lives near me but I don't really *know* her (I accepted a lot of friend requests a while back when I was dabbling with a small business). From her posts I know that her husband was cheating and has a drug problem. At some point authorities have been involved in a domestic issue. They finally split and he isn't seeing their 2 kids or helping at all. Then she announces she's pregnant with their 3rd with photos of the EPTs. And she's currently 3 months behind on her rent.

I've thought about unfriending her because I feel like I'm witness to so much personal info of someone I don't know. But, I feel sorry for her and I'm rooting for her at the same time. She's still trying to get a degree though all of it. It's like a soap opera or a car wreck you just can't look away from.

I was under the impression this meant the dad was getting the boy a prostitute.

I think it refers to the new found knowledge, the end of the age of innocence.

But I guess that isn't what it means anymore...

The other day a friend of mine not only shared that her son was finally pooping in the potty now - she posted a picture of the naked 2 year old sitting on the pot doing the deed.

I guess several people told her she shouldn't post that and she finally deleted it after a couple of days.

I have married friends who are currently in the midst of paternity testing on their son. As in -- they've been married for 10 years. DS is 4. Dad might not be Dad. I know all of this due to status updates.

And it's DAD who's the FB user. Mom rarely posts.

Warning -- my antivirus blocked the site for a trojan horse.

Back to the original discussion. I think it's weird to have one birds and bees talk, let alone announce it on fb. How old is the DS? I think we've been bringing up sex and sexual issues since the kids were VERY young. If you talk about it a little at a time in an age appropriate way, then you and he aren't traumatized when he turns 14!

Yeah i think he's 12. Seventh grade. Oldest child. They tend to shelter their kids from alot. I won't lie, we do too to some extent. This family homeschools so there is less of a tendency of exposure to things. We were talking recently. The mom was a bit concerned about her son hearing some topics he hasn't been exposed to before now that he is old enough for youth group.

Ds14 told me that last week a kid got up and expressed that he's become addicted to pills and has been cutting. Hopefully the leaders will be able to get him some help.

Anyway... there are 70 going away for the weekend at snow camp. I'll bet the parents are trying to address a topic that is bound to come up before he becomes accidentally surprised.
