I suspect that's an old picture. The weather here has been dry and sunny for about a week and I don't know of any parts of Oregon that are THAT wet right now. There is a coastal area that looks like that every year at some point, though.

Edited to add
I got the county right, but not the road. I've seen references to the photo having been taken in Lincoln county. |

This is on East Devils Lake Road in Lincoln City. I live really close to this road. It floods every time we get a ton of rain. Just down from the outlet mall.
And it ALWAYS rains in Oregon. We are not currently having beautiful, glorious sunny weather this week. And I did not sit on my back deck on Saturday and watch a surf competition with 30 foot monster waves. I swear none of this happened this week! And the sunsets suck. And we keep getting random Japanese tsunami stuff littering our beaches (anyone need a huge dock? or a boat that washed up on Sunday?).

Just to be clear, that fish is a protected species and must be returned to it's natural habitat and not seperated from it's umbrella stealing friends and family. In case anyone thought they would walk outside and catch a fish to EAT for dinner. You can't.

True, BudgetMama. And we are all required to do rotating fish husbandry schedules where we find any fish that have gone astray of their migratory patterns and return them, in an ecologically sensitive way, to their proper home.

How sad is it that in addition to the beauty of the coast and Crater Lake National Park... it's the gas pumping that really sticks in my mind
You would REALLY appreciate the gas pumping if you saw what those poor pump jockeys go thru on a rainy day, fending off attacks of vicious umbrella wielding fish.
It isn't pretty, believe me. |

NOTHING would dissuade me from wanting to move to Oregon unless you outlaw the gas jockeys! We've made periodic visits to the NW over the past 12 years and it is often VERY nice weather. I'd gladly trade painfully cold temperatures and snow and ice and breathtakingly hot summers for a few months of rain. For one thing, you people have oxygen and humidity. |

Larger are not uncommon. I once stepped on a rock to reach better blackberries and it MOVED under my foot. My entire weight was on this GARGANTUAN slug about 6 inches WIDE and who knows how long.
