On Wednesday I couldn't get out of my pjs, with a BAD migraine all day. Yesterday was a bit better, but I only got showered and dressed around 5 pm so DH and I could have a quick bite of dinner and go to a movie. Had headache all day but Advil helped it somewhat.
This morning I woke up thinking that having my hair colored (OVERDUE!) on Tuesday might have caused the migraine. I am instructed not to wash my hair for a couple of days after the dye job, if possible, and my hair has a chemical smell. So I didn't wash it until last night's shower and my headache today is very slight. Will have to pay attention to what happens next time. I have these migraine days fairly frequently, but until now have not made a connection with having my hair colored....

I don't think so but I'm on medication and also, I don't take advil for any migraines that I do get. Advil wouldn't touch anything.
Do you mean Advil migraine? I mean, I'm not knocking what you're doing. And I've read that the only difference is the caffeine. But for me, a regular advil would do nothing. I could pop those all day.
But for your original question, no. I don't think that's a trigger of mine.
Good luck though. It is good to know our triggers. |

Yes, for me it is. A neuro once told me that it's somewhat common. |

Sometimes sitting in a hair salon will trigger one for me so maybe the fumes got to you. I usually do mine at home now and make sure the bathroom window is open as well as the door. I'm extremely sensitive to smells.
As for the Advil, my neuro actually had me taking advil along with Imitrex for the inflammatory relief that it provides. It isn't as weird as one might think. Now I'm on the injections though and those are amazing. So much more relief!

No, but scents are a trigger for me. |

Yes! The dentist does too with the light shining in my eyes. I now wear the shades they provide.

Thanks for all of your replies!
I have never taken any actual meds specifically for migraine... Probably because I react poorly to a lot of pharmaceuticals and haven't looked into it. Crazy, huh? I should see a neurologist...
I'm interested to know that the hair dye fumes do trigger migraines in some people... I'll bet that's been happening to me and I never made the connection until now. And I never color my own hair... maybe I should if the salon fumes are worse than the home job ones. That'll take another type of courage.
I'm sorry for all of you who experience frequent headaches of any sort, or migraines. UGH!

I'm a lifetime migraine sufferer. I'm on a combination of meds for it and usually have a rescue Rx too (maxalt). The smell of the coloring or bleaching doesn't affect me, but it's the washing of the hair in those sinks, where your neck is pressured, that usually sets me off. Maybe that's it? Do you get migraines from haircuts too?? It might be the sink.
I agree about the advil. Nothing otc really helps me, except for Excedrin, and that was because it had high levels of caffeine. Still, a real Rx for migraines works best otherwise you ruin your stomach from the otc meds! |

I was going to suggest this.....but I thought people would think I was batty! I have bad neck issues that trigger migraine like headaches, and this does it to me every time. |

Hair colouring doesn't bother me.
I take axert and naproxen. Make sure you're not getting rebound migraines from Advil.
I'm not that happy with the pills at the moment - what are the injections mentioned.
