Please tell me that this happens in more houses than just my own.

I hate planning dinner. But I do it pretty much 80-90% of the time. But man, the "What do you want"/"I don't know/care, what do you want" game get's soooo old and frustrating. At this point it's almost 7pm, with no idea as to what we are having for dinner and 4 different opinions. Well actually 3 as DD#2 will eat whatever.

I would've decided way before 7pm

This happens regularly, but MUCH less not that we are eating WW's meals every day (menu planned out and groceries bought on Sat) except for 1 Saturday meal and Thursday dinner. If we still have issues on Saturday, we narrow it down to 2 and flip a coin. 99% of the time we go with the coins answer. Works like a charm!

Well at this point, whatever it is, it's going to be takeout. I'm not cooking now! Now we just have to narrow down where we are getting take out from, and soon... we're starving!

When we do this, I'll usually wind up making breakfast for dinner. I never get an argument when I do this. Or we get pizza.

It's a pretty popular game at our house too. It's these times that I wish I was a meal planner. I just kind of wing it everyday. Or if you can't agree have a go to meal like take out pizza or whatever =)

Yes! Food and it's related hassles are my most loathed chore. I know I should be grateful for all the options, but it drives me crazy!

I do not like to grocery shop and then trying to plan something interesting each night is like pulling teeth. I'd much rather clean toilets than try to figure out "What's for Dinner?"

I would have put money down that you were outside my front window, listening to OUR conversation! It's even better when we're all standing in front of the open refrigerator and freezer, staring as if SOMETHING, anything, is going to jump out and say "EAT ME".

Ended up with parmasean and walnut crusted orange roughy, cheesy potatoes and peas....

Somedays I just give up though.

I hate the whole "chore" aspect of it too. And it's all on me, the planning, the shopping, the cooking, cleaning it up, etc.

Still no decision and I've said pizza 3 times, but DH is refusing but won't give an alternative. I'm about to just order a pizza online and tell him to shove it! Too hungry to argue with him about it!

My rule is that if you reject a suggestion you have to come up with one of your own. I would have ordered the pizza after the second time.

My kids are older now and about once every 3 or 4 weeks we have one of those nights where I'm not really hungry and I ask what they want and they 'can't think of anything.' I've started saying 'the window for getting me to fix your dinner closes at 7:00. After that you're on your own.' It works. They either tell me what they want and I fix it or they end up making themselves something. They never complain though because usually when this happens they're not really hungry either. (It's usually when we've had a weird day where we ate lunch late, so a 'light' dinner is better anyway.)

But, I feel your pain. I plan a weekly menu every Thursday and I think it's one of my most hated chores.

I've recently asked for ideas from everyone. DH's contribution was "chili." 15 yo DD sent me some magazine links. I told her it would be helpful if she would first look at the recipe to see if she thought she might like it first.

I looked at a recipe for copycat Orange Chicken from Panda Express. By the time you buy the ingredients (and use tiny amounts of each), it's cheaper to just get it from the restaurant. Ugh!

ETA: I also wish there were more healthy or relatively healthy options for take-out and delivery would be nice too. See...I'm not asking for much!

I make meals in larger servings so that I always have something in the freezer.

Sam's is great for having "stuff" to make dinner. Shrimp Scampie (micro cook the amount of shrimp you want), spring rolls, stuffed shells.

If desperate, I will make stove-top stuffing and add dried cranberries, frozen turkey or chicken meat, walnuts, frozen veggies and cook it all together.

I love cooking, yes, including the shopping thru to the cleanup.

Pretty much every day at my house. Lunch and dinner. DH can't make a decision to save his life. If I force him to choose something he reverts to 2 meals, neither of which I like, so I have to choose anyway.

Oh yes, we have a version of this in my house all the time. I hate -- HATE -- thinking up what to cook. And then I very much dislike cooking it.

The version this game that we have in this house is this: I ask "what do you want for dinner?" and get these replies:

Dh: "meatloaf" -- or "whatever".
Ds: "pork bbq" -- or "eh"
Dd: "broccoli/quinoa bake" -- or "um..."

Sigh. Seriously, we could eat meatloaf, pork bbq, and broc/quinoa every single day and two out of the three would be happy. (dh and ds eat all three, but dd is a vegetarian...)

Tonight we had red lentils and beans over rice. I slaved away all day over those lentils.

ahem... in the interest of full disclosure, they were TastyBite Madras Lentils, from Costco. (my kind of cooking).

Happens here, too.

It's 7pm and DH just put two frozen pizzas in the oven. I've been busy working and he doesn't want chicken again. And we ate out last night for Vday and we're too far for a quick run for something fast. Frozen pizza seemed to be the easiest thing.

There are nights like this when I'm glad our DDs are away at college- sometimes it's hard to figure out what to feed just the two of us!

Here too! I hate planning meals. And hate shopping for food too. I could go to Target everyday but grocery store, yuk! I love when my husband travels because I don't have to cook. Crazy! I would hire a cook over a house cleaner any day.

And the answer is chicken. IF they don't give me ideas we have chicken.

Tonight was supposed to be BBQ pork, but SOMEBODY'S DH forgot to turn on the crockpot at lunch time.

We had hotdogs and beans instead. It works.

I hate planning meals. So it is not as easy as "I choose, I cook, they eat" in our house. I hate the chore. Even though **loud sigh** the decision always comes down to me and I should MAKE it as easy as my choice, you eat.

I'll make you whatever you want and I'm a pretty good cook so stretch me and see. I just hate thinking of what to cook whether I planned in advance or not. If DH would hand me a menu on Saturday night for a whole week...... holy crap, I'd think I died and went to heaven. Wonder if I could ask for that for my birthday. (Eureka!!)

This is why I have no problem having DH make dinner when I don't feel like it. He can make grilled cheese, salad, and microwave pastas. The kids are happy, I don't have to cook, and DH cooks dinner. Win, win, win!

At our house it's, "what was your plan for dinner"? Me: "I'm making x y z". Him: that just doesn't do it for me". Me: "well, what would you like then?". Him: I don't know. I guess I'LL go out".

OR..."I ate a late lunch so you don't have to cook dinner. Me: "I have to cook for the rest of us.". Him: don't go to all that work. They can eat cereal.". Me: "I don't want cereal.". I didn't get my lunch today, I need a meal and So do the kids.". Fast forward to me putting away dinner. Him: I didn't know dinner was ready!!". Me: "you weren't hungry, remember?".

Grrrrr. I love to cook but am really tired of cooking dinner every. Stinking. Night.

Nightly ritual here! We fight about food more than anything else. I am indecisive...my husband won't choose because he says I'm picky. I don't think I'm that picky. I just don't eat fish or seafood, otherwise I really eat pretty much anything. It has been really bad the past month or so. I have no appetite so I don't even care if I eat. Give me a box of multi-grain Cheerios to pick at and I'm happy enough. Unfortunately that doesn't work for him 7 days a week.

I plan 5 meals a week and grocery shop for them all at once, so this isn't a huge issue at my house, pick one of them and the choice gets reduced as the week goes on.. I typically plan them based on certain things as well, for instance if we're going to be home late it's going to be an easier meal, if a meal needs bread made I'll decide what is the best day for me to make it ahead... etc.

We do sometimes have this issue with going out as there isn't much to choose from, but I can't image it would take us that long to decide on something.

About five years ago, I hit the wall about "what's for dinner," and I made a rule that the person who asked that question had to fix dinner. They stopped.

I now have a job, work 9 to 10 hours a day, come home, and still have to fix dinner. Four days ago, my husband said, "I should fix dinner more often. We work the same."

He's a keeper.

--Cricket
P.S. -- He made biscuits and gravy for his first "I'm an equal partner; I can fix dinner, too" dinner. Not a single vegetable in sight anywhere. It was *great*.
