We've been on 4 and will absolutely go again, no question.

We were actually considering going in April, but it was a little more than we wanted to spend right now.
We will NOT take the Carnival line, though. Princess and Royal are a better fit for us.

We are going on a cruise this April and can't wait. Not Carnival but RC. This fall I am scheduled to go on the Carnival Triumph for the 3rd time. Not sure about that trip!

Now they were talking about the ship in Italy that sunk sideways. That cruise line was owned by carnival too.

People died on that ship. Very sad.

I went on my first cruise last summer on the Carnival Breeze. It was a brand new ship and the staff were fantastic.

The ship was full of families from around the world. It was a 12 day Grand Mediteranean cruise. I met a lot of chronic cruisers (various cruise lines)and they had a fantastic time. We had 9 long port days out of 12 days-Barcelona, Marseilles, Florence, Rome, Naples, Venice for 2 days and Dubrovnik.

Sunny and hot everyday with very smooth sailing We could see land at all times.

Would I go again to the Med? Oh yes I have no interest in a Caribbean cruise. If I cruise again, it will probably be a river cruise with my dh in Europe

I have no regrets whatsoever and would recommend a Med. cruise.

Put me in the definitely will go on another but Royal all the way. All of the most recent cruise horror stories have been Carnival related.

I've been on 10 cruises, many with Carnival. Like a car or plane, anything can have engine failure. Are you never going to travel by car or plane again? I hear of very few plane crashes that result in survivors. The thing with a cruise accident is that recovery will be long and horrific, but I'll still take the gamble. I went surfing in Hawaii a few years ago because I've never been and thought it a fun once in a lifetime opportunity. Was I scared about sharks, you bet! lol Especially with there being shark attacks in Hawaii yearly, but again I figure the chance of me dying in a car accident is much greater.

I'd like to think with every cruise accident they learn something new so it won't happen in the future or recovery efforts will be better.

I'm watching too.

Definitely not going to stop me. I don't know why, maybe I should be concerned, but for some reason I'm not. Even the ex crew member they were interviewing said he would hop on one right now despite everything he saw.

My niece and I have been dreaming of a Disney cruise.

All of the 5 cruises I've been on were on Norwegian, I know some peas aren't fans, but we really, really enjoyed ourselves on each trip. We wouldn't hesitate to go again if $ wasn't an issue, lol.

The RC cruise we booked 12 days has gone up in price since we booked by 57%. I checked it this week just to see where it was at and was shocked to see it climb daily. So grateful we booked when we did.

Just finished a carnival cruise last month and had a great time. Going again in the fall but switching cruise lines because we want a specific itinerary. I was skeptical before my first cruise but I really enjoy it.

I wonder how Carnival is going to resurrect themselves after all this.

That Italian shipwreck was a nightmare....for me it was more the Captain's attitude than anything else. My God, he LEFT the ship! He was ordered back on board, and he wouldn't go. Unbelievable! I can overlook an accident, but the Captain leaving his ship, while people were still on board? No.

Then this recent one, and now 20/20 doing an expose, they are going to lose a fortune.

We are scheduled for a Caribbean cruise on Carnival next month. I am hoping the price goes down so we can get some credit.

We enjoy cruising and my in-laws are avid cruisers (like two a year) so we will cruise again. Probably not with Carnival with our kiddos though.

I was on the Zuiderdam in December -- it is a Holland American ship -- which is also under the Carnival Cruise Lines umbrella.
We had 3 engine fires and 2 total engine shut offs -- one of which left us dead in the water for over 20 minutes. (I'm not suggesting that our experience was anything like that of the pax on the Triumph.)

But ... I've really been thinking about the fact that it seems Carnival is either having a terrible run of bad "luck" with engine fires and outages on its ships .... or maybe it isn't bad luck but bad maintenance.

I've been on 11 cruises, all Carnival, and all full charters so things work differently than on non-chartered sailings. Never had any problems on any of the trips.
I leave next Sunday on my 12th, but it will be on Norwegian.

First let me say I've been on one cruise, on Carnival, from San Diego to Cabo and back. Five days. I had a wonderful time. Truly awesome. And I was terrified of going.

Will I ever go again? I don't think so. Being stuck on a ship is one of the things that terrifies me, the fact that you can't just get off of it. So this occurrence has really freaked me out.

And how on earth could anyone go on The Triumph now? YUCK!!!! Sorry, but you couldn't pay me enough to do it. I don't care if they ripped out all the carpeting and completely refurbished it. . . sewage in the hallways, remember!

Yuck!

Sure, I'll sail again. With Carnival? Probably not, but it has nothing to do with current events. I've sailed 5 of my seven cruises with them, and I know the product now. It's better in my business to get to know all of the lines from personal experience.

And the cruise ship where I had the horror stories on service was Royal Caribbean. Nothing Carnival ever did came close to that.

I understand why people like cruising, but I also get those who say it's just meh. I'm right in the middle. I've had great times on my cruises, but I am a person who likes different adventures and experiences, so I mix up my travel types. I am bored doing two cruises, two bus tours, two independent trips, two all-inclusives, etc consecutively.

My prediction? Carnival will survive this just fine. So far, prices on their future cruises are holding steady.

My take -- this is no different than the Superdome after Hurricane Katrina. People said it would have to be torn down because of the memories and the horror stories. Turns out, it's the lighting system that was the lasting problem. LOL. They've held the Super Bowl there now ... twice is it?

My guess is that TwoPeaFaithful will have a fabulous, shining, almost brand new ship to board in the fall. They've taken Triumph off the schedule for more than two months, and it could stretch longer.

I have been on 4 Carnival Cruises, the last was in December on the Carnival Breeze. I have loved every one of them. I would go on a Carnival Cruise tomorrow if I could.

Plus Carnival employs my favorite Piano Entertainer - Ron Pass. "Social" Yes, I have a crush!! My husband enjoyed every minute with me as well, just so much fun.

I believe like others have said here - an engine fire can happen anywhere anytime. On a ship you will be uncomfortable if it happens but the employees will work harder then any of us ever will to be sure that you are safe and cared for. They do this for very little money by our standards but by their's it is a fortune. We always be sure to tip all well as we grow to care deeply for each one of them. I have many scrapbook pages of waiters, bartenders and the room stewards from each of our cruises.

Just my 2 cents.

I've been on two carnival cruises and I would absolutely go on one again. My last cruise was in 2010 and I was on the Splendor. We had one of the crew member jump off the ship and we spent 8+ hours looking for him; we were late getting into Puerto Vallarta and only had a few hours there. The very next voyage of the Splendor there was an engine fire and it had to be towed back to San Diego. Shit happens!

I think maybe Carnival is just having a bad decade!

I have been on 3 cruises, I would go again. We do not cruise on carnival anymore though, not because of any recent happenings, but because of how we were treated on our one and only carnival cruise. Certainly not the experience we would like to repeat and that was with the boat having no difficulties.

I've been on 5 cruises, one with Carnival and 4 with Disney. Going on my 5th Disney cruise this summer. We love them and Disney really does it right. I watched most of the 20/20 special last night and it didn't turn me off of cruising. But I won't be cruising Carnival. They've got some serious damage control.

Something I was thinking about last night though, people who were on the Triumph were offended that Carnival was only giving them $500 on top of reimbursing the costs of that cruise and giving them a voucher for another cruise. Why do people expect money? It was an accident, certainly unforseen. Why should Carnival pay you for that? Yes, conditions were deplorable and I think more of an effort should have been made to get that ship back to port sooner and make accommodations better but to then expect the cruise line to pay you? I just don't get it.

I have been on 4 cruises, and will never go on a cruise again. The last one we went on was our honeymoon, and we had to change course to avoid a tropical storm. The seas were so rough that you couldn't go on deck for 2 days. Dinner was crazy, you could hear plates flying around the kitchen. I got seasick and medicine didn't help. (Never happened on my previous cruises). Since then, with the news of illnesses on board and problems like this week's, I would never cruise again. You are totally trapped once you are out at sea.

I've always wanted to go on a cruise, but could never afford to. Now, I'm not to sure I'd go at all. Maybe if I was gifted a trip or won one in a contest. I think they are doing their best to make it up to those people, and hopefully their cruises will be better now.

I have been on 4 cruises....all with Carnival. We have always had a wonderful time and the crew has always gone above and beyond. I wonder how another cruise line would've handled the same situation? Carnival probably did the best they could with a bad situation. Everyone that has come off the Triumph has said the crew was great and I would expect that, based on my past experiences.

On a side note...I thought it was funny to hear about how the crew parties. I have always figured it was like that. Our last cruise was this past New Years and the crew seemed to be struggling more the next day than the passengers (hung over). It was kind of funny to watch them trying to get through the morning while working.

Because a lot of people had property destroyed and damaged.

It is seriously debateable whether it was an "accident" or not (I vote not).

If Carnival hadn't paid to get people to sign releases, there would have been lawsuits. And the passengers would have won bc the cruise line is ABSOLUTELY RESPONSIBLE for what happened on that clusterfu(k of a "cruise".

For many people, that was a wasted week - or more at this point - of vacation that they don't get to do over and probably amounts to more than $500. For someone who only gets 2 weeks a year, by the time they get home, they have probably depleted their entire year's worth of vacation leave. There are other associated costs with a vacation also - airfare, pet sitting, house sitting, possibly child care arrangements, etc.

I'm not saying that money should rain down upon them, but those costs are petty much vacation only costs and a "free" cruise when you have to incur all of those expenses AGAIN and don't have any vacation leave left isn't much compensation.

I don't know for sure, but I don't think this is exactly accurate. The cruise lines -- ALL the cruise lines -- have a contract of carriage and their liability for anything and everything is strictly limited. They have gone to great lengths to protect themselves from any type of liability to passengers. Most of the cruise lines are not US companies; most of them limit the place they can be sued.

And ... yes .... a suit has already been filed. But anybody can file a suit ... whether or not that suit can proceed and is successful is are two questions.

Do people not realize that when you are on a cruise, you are in the middle of a deep body of water? Do they not realize that if there is a fire, the ship can sink? Do they not realize that rescuing 5000 people off of a sinking ship is 'tricky' if not impossible? Even if everyone made it to their designated life boats, rescuing that many people from the ocean would take a long time and it would be risky? Rescue ships don't hold 5,000 people.

Most cruises are flawless and super fun but there are risks. I don't think that any cruise line wants customers to be injured.

Anytime you fly, odds are that the flight will be fine. But, there is risk.

I see how $500 would not compensate for the expenses incurred that go beyond the cruise. Flights to get to the port, personal belongings, and limited vacation time add up to a lot more than $500.

However, if my boss were to fire me over this well-publicized accident, then it's not a company I want to work for anyway. Perhaps I've been lucky and have always been employed by people who are a bit more understanding. Sometimes things happen that truly are beyond our control.

If anyone works for a company that would fire them for not returning due to these EXTREME and extenuating circumstances, you would be better off not working for them in the first place!

When 9/11 happened my company not only gave people trapped in foreign lands who could not get home additional paid time off, but additional compensations and rule adjustments as well, such as allowing people to use their corporate card to cover emergency related expenses without penalty (you normally cannot put personal expenses on your corporate card). I am proud to work for a company that values employees and understands that things happen beyond the control of the employee.

I do not know of anyone at my company (nearly 500K employees) but I'd bet a week of pay that they were allowed the time without any penalty if there were!

Seriously--WHO would fire over such a thing?

Honestly I know people that would lose their job even for something like this. Some companies don't care, they just want people to fill the seats. And it is easy to say well just don't work for them. But in today's economy that is just not that easy. My dh is finally re-employed and it was very hard to find a job and he found one quicker than most. It is a cruel world out there these days for the unemployed.

Yeah but 9/11 and a stalled cruise ship aren't exactly the same thing...

It was an accident, certainly unforseen. Because a lot of people had property destroyed and damaged.

It is seriously debateable whether it was an "accident" or not (I vote not).

This ship had a recent history of engine problems. What happened wasn't an accident. It was pure greed on Carnival's part. Carnival should've ensured the engines were working at 100%.

I have never cruised and have no plans to because I have no desire to be around that many people when I'm on vacation. I like to take beach vacations during the off season just to avoid a lot of people. I can't even imagine how horrified I would be to find myself on a stalled cruise ship with a bunch of unwashed people pooping in plastic bags.

We've been on about 10 cruises. Some Royal Caribbean, some Carnival, one Norwegian and one Celebrity.

I watched the special last night and I'd probably go on another cruise. Probably not anytime soon, but I'm sure somewhere along the road I'll go on another.

The last cruise I went on was on Carnival, and the hall we were in smelled so bad like sewage that I told DH I would never travel on Carnival again. Ever. We asked them to fix it, to change our rooms, to do anything but no one cared. We even had our (horrible) travel agent traveling with us because we were with a huge group and she didn't care. It didn't affect her cruise, she didn't have to deal with the smell so she didn't care either. We won't go on anymore trips planned by her and we won't go on Carnival.

I'd like to try a Disney cruise, would love to take the kids on one. But that's pretty much the only type of cruise I'd see myself doing from here on out. DH's BFF is getting married in Miami and then wants everyone to go on a RC cruise after his wedding and I think we're going to skip the cruise.

If anyone works for a company that would fire them for not returning due to these EXTREME and extenuating circumstances, you would be better off not working for them in the first place!

Plenty of people have jobs like that, and don't have a lot of choice.

One of my oldest friends got fired from her job because she missed ONE DAY when her house burnt to the ground. I live in a smallish town, there's not a lot of choices when it comes to employment. You have kids, you do what you have to do.

We leave on a Carnival cruise on the 28th.

Am I nervous? YES! But we're going anyway. Our ship is booked solid with people who were supposed to travel on the Triumph and have booked our ship instead, according to our travel agent.

We will see how it goes.

Carnival's engines hadn't been working properly on that ship = they should be responsible for greater compensation.

I've never been on a cruise, nor have I ever wanted to do so. My thinking remains the same, not changed a bit by this incident.

For people who have cruised and enjoyed it, the same seems to apply. Thinking remains the same, not changed a bit by the latest Carnival incident.

If I knew someone who was planning a cruise I would not try to change their mind.
