How do you organize your patterned paper? Manufacturer, color, theme, type?

If it is a manufacturer that I use often (Echo Park, October Afternoon, American Crafts, Jillibean, etc.) I put it by manufacturer. If it is holiday related like Christmas or birthday, I sort it that way. And then I have a misc. container for everything that doesn't fit into my categories. Does that help at all?

I do - I have kid paper, everyday paper, heritage paper, travel/outdoor paper, season paper, holiday paper, wedding paper and MY paper. LOL I cross the lines all the time with my LOs but it does speed it up a little bit when I am looking for something in particular.

I find, for me, it's better if I organize by color. The exception to that is Christmas, birthday, halloween and other themed paper. They are stored separately.

I do mine by theme, but am having a big problem because I have bought so many papers recently that don't have a theme. Kind of stuck on what I should do! I will be watching this thread for some ideas.

Usually by line it makes it easier for me to write down which line I have used when I am trying to keep track of product for a blog post.

I recently redid my organization. I sorted by velvet/flocked, transparencies, dots, stripes, grids, flourishes, flowers, words, die cut. I only kept my Christmas and my Chatterbox hoard together. It has made it much easier to find things. I probably still needs to sort by color inside the categories. But I have used more papers since I made this change than I did in all of 2012.

I sort by manf. Then I sub catagory and keep all the collections together.. Example... I use the 4 slot paper cubes to store my papers so on one shelf ill have OA and then I group all the papers that are in the same collection together. So the stack of papers in the one slot will go from top the newest to the bottom ill store the papers that I only have one of from a collection.. I have 12 slots all together! If I only have a few papers from each manf. Then I just place them all together and stick them in a slot.. But like OA I have a TON of papers from them so they have there own slot.. Hope ths makes sence lol I pretty much have all of my scrappy items organized by the way I scrap.. That goes for all my paper as well! Maybe start there and see how you like it.. Move it around 10 times if you have too, but you'll figure out what works for you

My paper is organized by:

1) Seasonal--Christmas, Halloween and if something is clearly Fall or Spring etc.
2) Specialty-- Die Cut, Vellum, Stitched, Glitter etc.
3)My most recent purchases- I keep all papers that are within 6 months in their own case separated by Collection/line.(including specialty papers and embellishments in large baggies)
4)Stuff I rarely use--All the things I have that don't fit in..Like I still have 40 sheets of a 50 something stack on MME (one sided and flimsy from 8 yrs. ago when I started scrapping)

I don't have a lot of paper so this system works. All of my seasonal paper is in a bag that one of my collection packs came in so it is in a case with my rarely used paper. And then I have an Iris case for my Recently Purchased+Embellishments and another bag from a collection pack with specialty papers.

Much like Ashley

1) Specialty paper - vellum, mistables, glitter . . .

2) Theme - Calendar, holidays and celebrations, recipe, fish

3) Color - ROYGBV

4) Manufacture - only if I have a ton by one manufacturer otherwise a collection gets filed at the front of the colour group it belongs in. Right now only one manufacture has that status.

5) Current - I have a small paper envelope that sits under my desk with the very newest paper. This time I'm going to use it all before I buy more so I don't have to file it.

It's supposed to be organized? I only wish!

This is so me. It all goes into my paper holder. I dig through it for every project. If I bought a collection, I keep it together.

The good news is that I am constantly mixing old and new stuff. The bad news is that I spend a lot of time picking out papers.

By how I'm likely to use them.

I have a stack for travel, a stack for my niece and nephew, a stack for seasonal holidays (Easter, Valentine's Day, 4th of July), a stack for Christmas, a stack for my husband. There are some generics, like "stripes and plaids" and "circles and diamonds."

I keep my most recently purchased paper together as a 'kit' of sorts, but once I break it up (aka as soon as I buy more paper) it gets sorted by colour.

By collection so I guess that is manufacturer. I use 12x12 Sterile stackable drawers. Sometimes multiple collections go in one drawer when they color coordinate.

I have 2 15x2 wire paper holders (like you would see at a scrapbooking store) and my paper is in alphabetical order by manufacturer. Within each manufacturer, I have each collection together from oldest on the bottom to newest on the top.

If I buy a bunch from one collection I keep it together in a cropper hopper vertical storage thingy. Once it gets down to the last few sheets, or if I go to a craft store and buy some random single sheets, they go in another cropper hopper thingy sorted by color.
Lately I've been buying collection packs, so I keep everything in the original bag/pack until it gets down to the ends...

Hope this helps

First I have a section for Basic Grey lines.

Then by theme: Child (Baby, Character, Disney), Wedding/love, Travel (Beach, Local, International), Christmas, Other Holidays, Masculine.

Then by color.

It would be hard for anyone to follow unless they shopped at Scrapbook Territory about 4 years ago. After shopping there for 6 years, I finally just organized by room/paper according to the store so I could find things once I was cropping at home. It totally works!!

I just answered this on another thread, so I'll just quote myself. :toungue:

Let me start out by saying that I'm one of those people that can measure their stash in feet. I really love paper--the patterns and the colors. It's my thing!

I store mostly by color. Cardstock definitely. For PP paper, I sort by the dominant color for how I'm going to use it. For example, if I bought paper because it has pretty pink roses on it, I will store it in the "Floral Pink" category, even if the background color is blue. But if I saw it and thought, "I love that blue paper with the flowers," I will put it with the blue florals.

I store my papers by color, in 4 categories. For example, for the blues, I have:
Blue
Blue Geographic
Blue Floral
Blue Stripes

The geographic category is for plaids, patterns that have a strong repeat (like dots, grids, etc). Floral and Stripes are pretty self explanitory, except that "floral" can include leaves--paper that just has a botanical feel. And "blue" is just everything else!

The system grew over the years, and I use it because that's how I work. I may be working on a page with a predominantly floral paper and decide that I want to add a stripe in there. Or dots.

For double sided paper, I store by the side I'm most likely to use. Or if I bought it to go with a floral/stripe/print, I store it with that PP, because that's how I will use it.

I will also store collections together. I do a lot of paper craft projects, not just scrapbooking. So I really tend to use a lot of papers from the same collection. Those groups will stay together until I'm done with the project, then I will break them up if there isn't much left. If I have a lot of paper left, I will just leave them together and make a mini album or something.

There are no hard and fast rules and I've changed my storage over the years as my collection has grown, and to fit the way I scrap. If you have a lot of paper, try sorting just one color to begin with. See how you use it and if the system works for you. Then you can adjust the storage before you sort your entire stash.

I should add that I also sort by theme. So Baby Girl, Baby Boy, Girl, Boy, Christmas, Halloween, Animals, etc all have their own categories. I have a lot of paper and I can find what I need very quickly. As I buy paper, I keep it all together until I have time to sort it out. That usually when that Paper Keeper is full! But I often use new stuff first, so it's fresh in my mind and I can go right to that new file.

P.S. I put a photo in my gallery.

3 category types:

-by manu/collection for newer stuff (I've only been paying attention to collections/manufacturers for the past 2 years or so)

-by holiday

-everything else goes by color (so older stuff, plus newer stuff where I just picked up a basic B side paper without planning to use it as part of a collection)

I'm a little all over the place right now.

I keep the major manufacturers that I use together i.e. EP, Fancy Pants, BG etc.

I also have categories like sports, dance, Christmas etc. separate.

I keep the rest by color.

I organize mine (loosely) by manufacturer... large categories, though.

My folders are:
1) October Afternoon
2) Sassafras / Amy Tangerine (they're filed together because they're 'fun' and bright patterns)
3) Echo Park and other papers that have a 'white' background
4) My Mind's Eye and other 'vintage' style colors / patterns
5) miscellaneous papers that don't really fit anywhere else- like Christmas

This. I do the exact same thing as Paperclips29. But I get quite a stash of new paper before I break it down into the color section. In a way I think it helps come up with more unique paper combos - which is something I like.

I just organized mine yesterday and like others basically did it by manufacturer - both by line and then a misc for those manufacturers I had a misc selection of papers. I like this idea though:

I organize mine (loosely) by manufacturer... large categories, though - good to get some different combinations.

I ended up sorting my general miscellaneous by mood - like Noell at Paperclipping suggested. It's a fun way to combine like backgrounds.

I'd be curious to know how people sort double sided papers if they're sorting by color or mood - do you pick your favorite side? Some are clearly based on one color but sometimes there's a patterned print on one side and a tone on tone on the other.
