I told a coworker today about this... once or twice a year, I like to decorate cakes. I use chocolate molds, fondant, marzipan and food coloring. I haven't taken any classes, but I do have an art degree so I try to do something bigger and better every time!

Last year, for example, I made a Harry Potter book of spells for my son's birthday. It included Harry's scarf, a golden snitch and a wand. A couple of years ago, I decorated a cheesecake with IT-related items (keyboard keys, a circuit board) made from marzipan for a cake-decorating contest at work. Stuff like that.

I am a web developer by trade so this is slightly different than my usual.

What's your thing?

I have almost no fear when speaking in public. I can lead a nature tour anytime in almost any place.
I can ski double black diamonds, even though I am old and overweight...I love to go straight down the hill at 40 mph.
I can read about 100 pages of a paperback book in an hour.

I can still speak some Japanese . . . with a Japanese accent.
I can fly gliders, airplanes without engines.
I survived a closed-head brain injury.

Thankful for every day too!

I am afraid of heights, but hanging out of the open door of a helicopter to take photographs doesn't bother me in the slightest.

I was a pilot and was 7 hours away from getting my license before I was grounded for medical reasons

I studied art, interior design, photography, and graphic design in college. I love doing different art projects.

I taught an extended education class on faux finish techniques in college for my degree. I buy lamps, finials, and small decorative pieces and paint/faux finish them how I want them. --like changing shiny brass fleur de lis shower hooks into a matte silver I could actually use. Faux finishes are easy to do, but you have to have the courage to try different ideas.

I have a cookbook collection of almost 200 volumes. I *love* to cook but haven't done much since I've been so sick the past 2 years. I am really looking forward into getting back into it.

I don't really have any talents that most people would notice but I am able to connect with people and speak to their spirits with the help of my Heavenly Father. Actually it is more like I am able to get out of the way so the Spirit can guide them, heal them and help them. It really isn't me.

Only the people who I have helped know my secret talent. If you told my daughter, she would never believe you.

Since I moved to a new state 5 months ago, very few people know that I play a variety of traditional musical instruments, including the hammered dulcimer, banjo, guitar and autoharp. When I was in California, I was in a bluegrass band so it was common knowledge. Now it seems kind of awkward to bring up!

1. I am earning my 'practical engineering' degree with the help of my dad and youtube: The starter went out on my tractor, and I was able (with dad's help over the phone and some good youtube videos) to diagnose what was wrong, take it off, then replace it with a new starter. The guys at O'Reilly's Auto Parts were pretty impressed. I don't tell very many people this because they already think I'm weird enough. I'm just thrilled that it saved a lot of money to do it myself. I assume it would have been $100 - $200 labor and service charge.

2. I'm pretty sure I could teach 9th grade algebra because I help my dd so much. Anyone want to know how to write a recursive formula? That's what I had to relearn this morning.

3. I, too, can decorate a pretty mean cake.

4. I think I'm pretty good at reading people....or at least I can come up with some plausible explanation for their behavior (at least to me).

I have a very good memory- especially for numbers, and add in my head quickly.

The cashier and I play a game every week, to see who can tally up my grocery bill faster. Even adding in variables such as the weight of produce, I was only off by 3 cents last week (on a $153 dollar bill)

The cashier thinks that I'm a riot, but aside from adding groceries, calculating tips and remembering birth dates and phone numbers of everyone I have ever known, it's a relatively useless talent.

And as a seamstress for so many years, I can tell you your measurements by looking at you within a 1/4 inch.

My friends often tell me they are jealous of my ability to say no. LOL

I don't have any trouble telling people no if I don't want to attend something or be on such-and-such committee.

And I don't feel the need to explain, just no.

I have always wanted to be able to do this!! Way cool!

As for me, I know song lyrics from all kinds songs, across a multitude of genres. For example, I had a work study job in college and the weekend supervisor would ONLY play oldies on the radio. I know a million of those songs. I would win a bazillion dollars on Name That Tune!

I can pick up, pet and snuggle even the meanest of cats. If there is a cat at someone's house, I will automatically pick it up and love on it. I have had many friends freak out when they see me holding their cat because their cat HATES everyone. Not me

Dogs and babies also really like me right away.

Party tricks: Whistling in two pitches at the same time, and writing in mirror image with both hands simultaneously.

Skills: Really good aim especially with a bow and arrow or a slingshot, and I can sew pretty much anything without needing a pattern.

I have a Rolodex of numbers in my head.
Every address and phone number of everyone I know, and phone numbers for stores, hospitals, schools etc. Also every medical record number to all the doctors everyone in my family sees and DH's and DD's DL and SS#. They don't know them

I even know the address and phone number my grandpa had when I was 4. I have no idea how or why I know those ones

I actually have them all filed in my head and flip through them like a Rolodex. It's weird.

I always thought it would be horrible to have perfect pitch! I spend a lot of time in and around music -- choir, church, etc. -- and I would think that anyone with perfect pitch would be like and and again, especially with congregational singing. omg. lol... I can usually hear when things aren't on key, and I can hear that my piano needs to be tuned (next week, in fact) but perfect pitch seems like taking that to extremes.

As for me, not sure I have any "secret" talent. I'm a good preacher (so I'm told) but that's not "secret". lol. I'm not afraid of anything I see in the hospital -- trauma, cancer, all the equipment, death -- but that's also not a secret. Maybe a lot of people don't know that I play the flute and piano, although I'm not really great at either one. I play for my own enjoyment only and don't even take lessons anymore because of not having the time.

What a fun topic! Here are mine:

I am "spatially talented". I am the person who loads everyone's cars for a trip, gets everything to fit in their suitcase and knows where to place furniture in a room. Whenever we go on a trip, my entire family just drops all their "stuff" on the ground next to the car. It is my job to load it all. I can get everything to fit perfectly and still have tons of room leftover. It has become quite entertaining for everyone!

I have a photographic memory when it comes to color. If you showed me a color of anything (a dress, wall color, nail polish, etc) I could then go to Lowe's and pick out the exact paint color to match without said item.

I am a music junkie. I can tell you who sings almost every song on the radio from the 1970's forward. People often tell me that I will be their "phone a friend" when it comes to music. Useless information, but fun.

Awesome thread! What cool stuff we all can do.

I was a state champion in archery, and at 61, can still hit a bull's-eye 9/10 times.

Not a very useful talent because dh is the hunter in the household. I do beat him, however , in the backyard contests.

I need to hook up with TinCan, the NSBR Spy Woman. And I won't tell!

I'm ambidextrous, I can mentally add the grocery total as I shop...I'm usually right within $1 when I get to the register. I can regurgitate entire group conversations/discussions, almost as accurately as a tape recording.

I'm a licensed pilot, but that's a learned skill, not a talent. I can't sing worth a damn, am a total failure at learning to play a guitar, but I can instinctively zero in on what part of a wide scene will make an awesome photograph (basically I'm good at composition)
