Other than Austin/Fredericksburg/Gruene/New Braunfels. BTDT, loved it, but want to try something new. We're in Houston, so somewhere we can go that's a just few hours from here.

Ideas? Or is that area the only one really?

Adults only or kids too? If kids, how old are they?

What about going north or northeast? Tyler or Nacogdoches?

That's my island!

I second Port Aransas, but it's my second home so I love it there!

Is it sad that I've never heard of Rockport, even though I've lived in Texas for over 30 years? I'll look into that, thanks.

I haven't been to Tyler since I was 18, when a friend of mine used to live there, so I kinda forgot about it. All I remember is a catfish place, lol.

Thanks for the ideas, ladies!

Fort Worth is only 3 1/2-4 hours from you. There's a LOT to do between there and Dallas.

Set on Texas? Why not hit Louisiana or Mississippi? Adult time at the casinos? Love Beau Rivage in Biloxi!

I can also recommend Rockport. We stayed a few years ago at Hoopes House and had a great time! If you can, try to stay in the main house. We went in the fall and it was empty, so ended up with the Live Oak room. It is a 2 story room with the bath (complete with claw foot tub ) upstairs!

Also, don't miss dinner at The Boiling Pot , down the road in Fulton.

I went on a getaway weekend to San Antonio for my 40th with friends. And old friends lived in Austin so they drove over too.

It was in Oct so we went to a local Germanfest, had beer and potato pancakes and danced to accordion music. We took a riverboat tour, went to the Alamo, went to Hemisfaire Park and drove to the local Japanese Gardens. We were so tired by the time we were done but it was fun.

go stay at the Houstonian in Houston. It's lovely and relaxing. Get a massage and hang out at the spa. Go out to eat nearby. And just be treated nicely.

We had an excellent time in Fort Worth over spring break last year. Never even ventured into Dallas.
