I was just on Archiver's FB page and holy moly! It seems that everything they post - someone complains. And the comments are just as bad!

I don't go there often - there's one about 40 minutes from me. I am going there to crop tomorrow for NSD.

It seems like a nice store to me - am I missing something?

I've only ever been to one once. About a month ago in Raleigh.

I *loved* it. Can't imagine why someone could hate them.

I love Archivers! I shop the Niles, IL location. The manager is a friendly, high energy, enthusiastic and welcoming woman... Her staff is great, too! In a time when good service seems hard to come by, they are consistently great! I find the products I want in a great atmosphere!

I'm not sure either... they do mark up their items a little, which stinks, of course. Their crops are not always run by the most knowledgeable/helpful employees, and their prizes are sometimes lame. Otherwise, they always have a decent selection and I'm always treated kindly. I'm sure those same folks would be pretty upset if the entire company went under.

That! I lived 10 minutes from an Archiver's for 5 years or more. I only went maybe once a year because of the high prices. I thought they were a nice store but chose to shop elsewhere to get more for my $$. I always shop for a bargain, and they are not what I call a bargain store.

I was surprised to see that too. One in particular was downright angry that they filed for Chapter 11. Personally, I love Archiver's and it's my go-to destination for shopping. They have tons of product, always getting new stuff and it's nice to see stuff in person. I've been picking up my online shopping here at 2peas since I became more active at posting but there have been a few times I put something in my bucket, went to A's and saw it in person and really didn't like it.

For the most part, I don't notice a big price difference from other places, more I notice the lack of sales.

I think part of the hate (from some of the comments I read) is from people really advocating for the smaller, independent LSSs. Archiver's is a bigger company and some people just don't like bigger companies.

They are thought of by some as the Walmart of scrapbooking.

People either love them or hate them.

Some feel that the big box came into town, put the mom and pops out of business, then had you captive to their prices.

So to file Chapter 11 and possibly go out of business, leaving them with nowhere to shop because THEY caused the LSS's demise, ticks people off.

Not to mention leaving their creditors holding the bill - many of them small scrapbook manus.

I dont blame Archivers for the demise of the smaller LSS, I blame the Michaels, JoAnns and Hobby Lobby and not to forget mention the online sites also. And the fact that companies decided to sell there lines to the so called big box stores. I do miss my local Lss . And the small stores could not compete with the big box stores.

I love the several Archivers stores I have been to!!!!! So many people like to complain online --they are cyber bullies, if you ask me. It's a great store and so much nicer than anything Michaels or Joanns or HL!! I wish them the best with restructuring!!!!!!

I have yet to go to one. But i agree, people love to bi*ch. and I totally disagree that they caused LSS's to close.

Keeping an LSS open is sooooo expensive and sooooo much work. You really have no idea until you see it yourself.

It is so sad when a local store closes. But Archivers is not to blame.

Last time I was at an A's I was looking for the Doodlebug mini pearls. When I walked in the store the lady asked me if she could help me so I said yes, do you have any of the Doodlebug mini pearls? She looked at me with this confused look and said I've never heard of Doodlebug, what is that? I don't think we carry those. I was like, really????

Anyway, I did find them. It is a fun place to shop at.

I love Archivers and am cropping there all day tomorrow.

I don't notice prices that are any higher than regualar manufacturer suggested retail prices. They don't have sales very often, but have coupons all the time, and if you crop, you get 20% off your total (non-sale items, maybe?). Clearly, they're not raking in the profits, otherwise they wouldn't have to file chapter 11.

As for this...

I think part of the hate (from some of the comments I read) is from people really advocating for the smaller, independent LSSs. Archiver's is a bigger company and some people just don't like bigger companies.

There are very few Archivers in the US, and yet LSS's are closing ALL OVER THE COUNTRY. How about we blame the owners of the LSS's for not having a better business plan?? It's hard to keep ANY small, local business open. Big box stores of any kind can buy much greater volumes of merchandise and can, therefore, offer better prices. Small businesses cannot get those volume discounts, and so have to charge higher prices. And believe it or not, Archivers is TINY compared to Michael's, Joanne's or even Hobby Lobby.

People cannot have it both ways....cheap prices --OR-- small, local businesses.

I hope against all hope that Archivers will pull through this. But if they don't, do not expect a bunch of LSS's to pop up and fill the void.

'Aint gonna happen.

Well, I posted this elsewhere, but this was my first and only experience.

"Not to rag on Archiver's but since it was brought up that an employee was an issue for someone, my experience wasn't great either.

The one I went to in Georgia, it's located next to a PetCo, so my walking in with a dog deserves a second look. But upon LOOKING you can see he wears a bright orange coat that identifies him as a legal service dog. Even if you want to ask, that's fine, but I didn't need the woman practically screaming at me from across the room (and startling the both of us) "You can't have a dog in here!", because I can and she knows it.

I also didn't need her following me through the store frowning and glaring and looking down her nose at me the entire time. I swear, ever corner I turned, there she was. My dog was quiet, calm, and doing nothing but heeling as I looked at every single item and display, picking up things often as I went.

I spent nearly an hour in there, an hour that was quiet aside from a few cropping ladies praising my dogs behaviour. I dropped nearly $200 that day as they had so many new CHA releases I wanted. As the *nice* girl rang me up and answered my questions that same woman was glaring at me and staring me down from behind the counter. At that point I'd become quite upset and my dog was alerting on me that we should just leave so I could calm down. I asked the nice girl if she could hurry ringing me up, I'd begun to visibly shake at that point.

All in all, I'd go for the selection, but if I lived there I'd need to figure out who this woman was so I could avoid her shift days. I don't know why she thinks it's okay to treat the disabled that way, but perhaps she needs more CS training. Oh, and I didn't have a coupon, cos I'm out of state."

I really like the Archivers I go to. The manager and all her staff are very nice. Melissa is very careful to make sure she hires people who know the industry and go the extra mile for the customer. I drive 40 minutes to get there so I love that they will check stock over the phone or order and call when something comes in.

One reason people are so upset is because of the sudden store closings just a few weeks ago, im ,any cases just fter they'd paid class and crop fees.
They were still selling crops spots and class spots the day before the store notifications and subsequent official announcement.

There are two things I noticed about them. Sometimes items are marked up quite a bit. There are times an item with an everyday retail of let's say $3.99 is marked up to $5.99. $2 is not a lot until it winds up being almost a 50% mark up. They do this a lot with their stamps

Second, they only carry pieces of lines, not the whole line. Unfortunately it tends to be the part that I am wanting that they don't have.

I still shop there though. Lol

I completely and totally agree with this.

I remember way back, at the height of this industry, there were LSS' opening all over the place. I probably had 5 or so to choose from, and I remember one store opening directly across the street from another one. What a bad, bad idea--can't blame M's, J's or A's for that one. That was just a bad idea, and poor planning.

I also remember one store opening up over night, going in and all they had was some paper and stickers. I went back to see what else they got in after being there for a while, and it was the same. There was absolutely nothing in that store I wanted, so I never went back. I never felt an obligation to shop there, and I never felt I had to support them because they were a small local store--they didn't have anything I wanted. Can't blame that on J's, M's or A's either.

There's a lot things that have changed in this hobby, and it doesn't fall back on M's, J's or A's. Heck, my A's is 3 doors down from a big J's, and they've lived comfortably as neighbors for quite a long time. If A's, closes I can't blame J's.

I hope they make it, I love going there.

I love Archivers! Some things may be priced a little higher but they too have to survive as a business. I may not buy everything from them but I love the selection when I can get there to shop. At least I don't have to pay shipping and handling, right?

I agree with the idea that ARCHIVERS is not the cause of the demise of smaller stores overall (perhaps individual ones, though) but rather Michael's, Joann's and online shopping (where items are often deeply discounted).

I only wish I had an ARCHIVERS near me. The one time I was able to visit I was impressed and didn't notice significantly inflated prices. Perhaps we are a little TOO used to the discounts that can be had online and with coupons?

I love our Archivers! It is about 45 minutes away, and I go whenever I go into the "big city" lol. My 15yo dd and I were just there yesterday. My dd has taken an interest in coloring with Copics, and while I shopped one of the gals in the store gave her an awesome run down on Copics. It was wonderful, and my dd was so excited that that gal took time with her.
