Doctors Take A Long Shot And Inject HIV Into Dying Girl

WOW!

ETA - She's still very young, so maybe remission is a better word than cured? IDK.

Stories like these and many more that I see everyday in my patients is why I continue to keep tough skin and work exclusively with Leukemia patients. It's a very hard job, and for every miracle we see through innovative treatment design, we have 2-3 that treatment fails them. I'm not sure we've done a clinical trial exactly like this at my hospital (M.D. Anderson) but we've definitely shifted focus in the last 5 years to more immune based treatment and targeted treatment.

Great story!

Amazing!!!!

Little unclear though ( I watched the video in my vey noisy living room). Does she now have HIV or were they able to engineer it so it didn't continue to replicate and take over her system?

She won't get HIV. They modified the virus. This is simply amazing.

Wow. Thanks for sharing this.

Do you remember that tv commercial that aired within this year that said, you will always remember where you were when you first heard the news that cancer can now be eliminated? I know it is a long hard fight, but I believe. I even believe that I may live to see that day. Can you imagine the strides that we can make in medical research once cancer is tackled? The thing is cancer is such a huge, multi faceted problem. Think of all the extremely talented people working on it right now, and imagine their efforts being pointed to other diseases and conditions. We could one day be hearing about one condition after another, snowballing almost, being eliminated. I can't wait. Amazing.
