We are working on projects and hopefully finishing them up in the next of weeks. The hardest part for us is feeling like life is all work and no play in the process. We did take Fathers Day as a no work day and there are many evenings that life happens and we can't get anything done but we want our Saturdays back!

1. Major purging and organizing. Lots of progress but still working on garage, haven't touched the attic or shed.

2. I have a patio set I want to spray paint. Man I hate painting. I am going to have to post and get tips before I do that project!

3. Major redoing of all our paperwork. I see that as separate from all our organizing and purging because it is SO detailed and I think might take longer than we think. I am saving it for last. I have purchased everything we need and purged some papers but for now it is all in a corner in our study.

4. I have an easel to put together and set up an art area for my son. I have had it for years and never put it up so I am going to find a way make it useful.

5. Scan all our photos. Ok, that just makes me cringe to write it! We have thousands and thousands! It is more of a long term project but something that needs to be done.

What about you? Are you working on any summer projects?

I am trying to get my house in order. We donated a good amount of things several weeks ago. I've been rearranging and organizing and trying to develop cleaning habits.

At some point my walls need freshening up with a coat of paint. So many marks on the walls.

I'm getting DS8 to clean his room without quite realizing it. I gave him a short list everyday with certain usual tasks - make bed, put clean clothes away etc. At the bottom of the list is "find a home for 10 things on your bureau.". It was overflowing but he's been working at it little by little, every day for maybe a week. I can see the bureau top. We're at the point where I'll put it all in a basket and let him deal with 10 things from the basket. Then we'll move to the floor and closet. Which aren't too bad.

Organize the garage. Well, that is an ongoing battle.

I would like to go through some paperwork and shred/file.

Scan in some older pictures and upload onto smugmug. I have already uploaded all my digital photos onto smugmug so those are archived.

I have done one thing already - organized my scrap space! Priorities!

I'm doing a 'closet-a-day' cleanout. It started well, but I got off track when my niece came to visit for a few days. Also, I'm in the beginning stages of a kitchen/bath remodel, so I've been to the designer's, lumber yard (windows), finding a plumber, etc. I still need to pick out plumbing fixtures, but otherwise I think everything is picked out. Just need to have the cabinets made and put in--which will be done in the fall as they have several large projects in front of me.

ETA: My mom passed away in February, and I have boxes of her things in my garage. I need to go through these things as well.

We are doing a room by room purge throughout the summer. Some rooms are faster than others. LOL

We are also doing a scan the old pictures project, it's ongoing and never ending.

Also, we are working on a lot of skill building for the boys this summer. The youngest ones are turning 12 and we've been working on expanding their home skills. By the end of summer the younger boys will know how to do the laundry and prepare simple meals. Oh and load the dishwasher! A couple of them already know this but the ones that don't are getting to learn this summer.

In terms of fun, we take the approach that Sunday is a fun day. We don't mow, clean, etc on that day. Also some days, like today, we are working early into mid afternoon on various things then stopping for a fun early evening.

We have a few of the same projects.

Our summer to do list:

organize, purge, and repurpose
garage sale/donation
making curtains for DD1
distressing DD1 dresser
painting folding chairs, and reupholstering (3 chairs for all 3 DDs desks)
painting patio furniture
restaining grout (2 bathrooms, 2 entryways, 3 closets
drywall/mud/paint garage
install organizers in garage
paint desk for DD3
paint/hang frames for all 3 DDs rooms
paint/distress jelly cabinet
paint/hang wooden shelves
paint/distress nightstand
more rock for our landscaping

If we get all of that done we might attempt to start landscaping the back of our house.

Spray painted the patio furniture using Rustoleum Hammered paint and it looks incredible, also spray painted three other outdoor chairs. Helped my daughter at a garage sale at her house (sold lots of my paper scrapbooking items). I live in a story and a half style home and need to paint the upstairs yet ~ my granddaughter and I are "decorating" it for her space when she visits. Overall, I'm happy with what I've gotten done but there is much more to do!

Right now I am working on painting my dresser. I have never painted furniture before so it is slow going. I just do a little bit here and there. If I tried to do it all in one day or weekend I'd never do it again.

I have scanned all my old family photos already. Everything my mom had back to the 1930s and they are all organized. Now I'm working on backing them up.

Next I will work on my prints from the 1990s. I have all my college photos done.

Of course I have a scanning business so I better be on top of that! I was living in this place with no a/c a few years ago so when summer came I would go to my school where I could use their scanner and just work on it. In the A/C. Aaaahhhhh....

Repotting, re-labeling and updating my orchid inventory. Doesn't sound like a lot, but if you have close to 200 orchids, then yes, it's A LOT.

Putting together some research projects for work.

Both depend on whether I get called to D.C. this summer or not. If I do, then THAT takes precedence over everything else.

My parents' 50th wedding anniversary celebration was this weekend. Mission: accomplished! EPIC crash day scheduled for tomorrow, with numerous poolside days to follow.

Seriously our attic day was so much harder than I imagined. I don't go up there and have never put a thing up there. My dh on the other hand has put every box ever delivered from Amazon up there. I took a picture of them once they were all down and sent him a funny email about an addendum to our marriage vows that he will put the incoming boxes from all packaging into the recycle bin. He did tear them all down and had to haul it off to the center because our bin was already full. We did 3 trips to Goodwill, listed a handful of things to sell and worked all day and evening. I had no idea it would take us that long. We wanted a day of rest today so we wanted to finish it last night. The garage is cleaned but still has some things in there that need to be sold, picked up, etc. Huge improvement and so worth it but oh my gosh we weren't sure we felt human by the time we were done. I told my dh if this isn't reason enough to make us not do this again than I don't know what is. He agreed. Not a fun way to spend a Saturday. Our 4 year old was with us the whole time and was a saint. which was a huge blessing. It was a crazy hot day to be outside but we had fans, water and shade. He made toys out of every gadget or Kirby vacuum attachement he could imagine. He did ask to go to the pool once and I was sad we could't take him but he is going today.

Yay for all the peas checking things off their list!

Jojam-That is a great way to handle it! I need to do that for up keep so I don't find myself with huge jobs in the future.

Blueribbon-Skill building! Great reminder for this mama. We have some to do too. I need to think about what and be working on those.

3peaSoup-That sounds lovely!

justmee-When you sprayed outside did you put paper under it or anything? I did it once and got spray on a few things I didn't want to and stopped after that one chair. I need to do better next time and have a better plan.

benem-That sounds amazing! I need to research this more to come up with a plan. My ds said he would help me too.

Legacy-That sounds amazing!!! Good for you. Crashing after HUGE days are so wonderful!!!

We have already landscaped both sides of the house (put edging there years ago and never got around to finishing. Plan to put a patio back there this summer with brick pavers and paint the storage shed. We will be having a big grad party here next spring so we are trying to prepare.

Got new furniture for the basement so cleaned carpets down there and deep cleaned. Ordered new furniture for the bedroom so I need to deep clean paint and clean carpets in there sometime soon. Cleaned out garage to move old bedroom set out there and get ready for garage sale and found termites..... Sooo that lead to cleaning out the unfinished part of the basement so the exterminator could spray down there too. Have decided after living here 20 years it is time to purge. Took 6 garbage bags of clothing to Goodwill last week.

And we just got home from a weekend at the lake so right now it is time to clean up the chaos.

3. Change out the Hollywood lights in the master bath

That seems to be it...for now.
