MY STASH!!!!!
He said I'm sure you have everything you need to create. He obviously has no idea about Summer CHA, DD, and PL! Not to mention the thrill of receiving a kit every month!
Seriously though, he got me thinking about sticking to 1 kit club and not buying any extras, such as add-ons or goodies from the shops.
As I have been reorganizing I have thought about once or twice but haven't committed. I think I just need to make sure he doesn't see the UPS guy.

I made the mistake of having my husband help me move my stuff into my new studio. BIG MISTAKE! He now knows exactly how huge my stash is and gives me a load of heckling any time I even talk about buying something new. What he doesn't know won't hurt him though right?

Might be considered blasphemy, but hubby stated it as a 'challenge', not an edict.

Regardless of his motivation, it isn't a bad idea to use what we have onhand occasionaly. Doesn't prevent us from adding to our stashes, but when our acquisitions become daily visits from UPS/FedEx without output, we come close to collecting; not crafting.

And, no, I do not regularly do scrapping, but I craft!

my dh is like that too, says I have all the stuff I need to be crafty. but I think it's gunna take me losing my crafty closet and needing to reduce my stash to really use it up, not one to give away paper I like and I don't see much of a return on it if I were to sell (pretty much bought it on clearance anyway)

My DH says that to me all.the.time. Any time I say I need something he will say 'cant you use what you have'.
Sometimes its funny and sometimes it just ticks me off, its my hobby, not his

I'd be like "GREAT!! I accept your challenge but you'll need to take care of the laundry and dinner and the dishes and the rest of the housework oh and the cat."

They just don't understand...

Occasionally, something will come up & my DH will ask if I have something in my stash that will accommodate the situation. Example, his mom was having a yard sale and we had a couple things to donate. I was going to just cut up labels for price tags. He said, "Don't you have something in that room to make it look nicer?" Of course, I just pulled out a small circle punch and made little circle price tags from them. Then on the flip side, he thought I could've come up with more craft stuff to put in the yard sale.

Great answer, Seasonscraps! But no fair dictating how DH handles the 'chores' & I would urge challenger-husbands & scrappy wives to establish guidelines for the challenge--# of LOs & timespan.

Hmmm. Wonder if it's too late for me to attend law school?

As long as it was a 'challenge' and you want to try it, sounds great.

My hubby can't say one word because he has far, far more stuff and more expensive stuff than I have.

EEEEEKS, I guess I am in the minority here, my hubby encourages me to buy more, I am the one always saying "oh I really don't need that", and believe me we are not on "Easy Street" by a long shot. Maybe it is because he is retired and I still work, that he "feels bad" so he wants me to by things for my hobby that he knows I just have such a passion for. But reading your posts, seems like maybe the hubby's are pretty much all talk, and for the most part they are okay with your purchases and support your scraping.

My DH is retired too and I am still working. He didn't say a single word about my weekly scrappy drop offs from the UPS truck all spring because he was too busy installing the new engine he bought for his 55 Chevy. Ha!

But now that he has stopped spending I have cut way back. Funny how that goes.

My dh would never do that! I'm a very visual scrapper so nothing is hidden, it's all out in the open. He sees every machine and every tool. He also sees me use my supplies on a constant basis and he encourages me to buy what I need. How, about taking him up on the challenge and taking the money you normally spend and put in a savings acct or piggy bank for yourself. Once you've used a large portion it, you can go shopping again. Good luck with your challenge.

I just promised myself this same thing! >BUT< it was my promise to myself, not a challenge from my other half. My other half knows the law: you comment on my stuff and the fishing lures go in the blender

I met a girl once whose hubby was beratting er for buying a couch and chair at an auction they were at.... she bought it for $10!!! I (of course) asked her about it and she told me that all she had was her grandmother couch that was really old, stained and uncomfortable. I should mention here that the couch she just bought was about 15 years old and badly stained, too, so just how bad was their couch?!? Then, to top it off he started bitching that he wanted to go to an auction next week and buy a boat

I told him he was lucky to be married to her, as my hard and fast line is i start with the fishing lures and advance from there... it's totally worth a blender or two to make my point. I think he might have looked at his wife differently after that!

I did that for 6 months. It was a really good exercise, to be honest. I got a LOT more pages done and decreased my stash substantially.

Then, I went out and bought more stuff. LOL

But seriously, I did find that forcing myself to use my stash really made me more productive. I finished a scrapbook I'd been dithering over for a year. I also found that the next scrapbook I started went much faster as well. My family even noticed how I went from taking 1-2 weeks to finish a page to taking a day or two. (They don't care, they just noticed.)

The reason for me is that I realized I was dithering and hesitating because I was sure there was going to be something new and wonderful and perfect coming out soon or that I just hadn't seen. By using my stash, I made decisions much quicker and had less hesitation about gluing stuff done and saying, "Done!"

ETA: I imposed that challenge on myself after I reorganized my craft room and truly realized how much stuff I had. My dh would never say anything to me about my stuff because he has hoarder tendencies (plus has two real "collections", so he has no ground to stand on. In fact, I'm the one who goes through his crap and selectively "weeds" it from time to time (because broken toasters and dvd players aren't going to miraculously come back to life and work).

My husband just challenged me to use MY STASH!!!!!
He said I'm sure you have everything you need to create.

i get told some version of this constantly...

He obviously has no idea about Summer CHA, DD, and PL! Not to mention the thrill of receiving a kit every month!

yea, tell me about it!

Seriously though, he got me thinking about sticking to 1 kit club and not buying any extras, such as add-ons or goodies from the shops.
As I have been reorganizing I have thought about once or twice but haven't committed. I think I just need to make sure he doesn't see the UPS guy.

i just keep telling him that i'm saving it for when we have kids... that way he won't have to buy me anything except for basics for a very long time. lmao...

seriously though, sometimes, i think it'd be nice to go back to just basics - some cardstock and patterned paper, a few embellishments and tools, and a monthly kit. then, i look at my creative chaos and smile... i really don't think there's any going back. lol...

My DH is actually too encouraging sometimes....it doesn't help my tendency to over-buy supplies . However, the catch is that his motivation is most likely to be able to buy more golf stuff for himself.

Wow!Lots of mixed responses.
I posted my hubby's comment because I thought it was funny ( he said it in a joking manner). He has NEVER told me to stop spending. I don't tend to overspend anyway. He is VERY supportive about my hobby and looks through (and compliments) my albums frequently. While I don't show him everything I buy (that would bore him a bit )I don't hide it either.
Happy crafting or Spending...which ever you do best.

My DH tells me the same all the time.

I do tend to go in spurts with my creativity so I've been using my stash, but replenishing it, too.

Kit clubs? I have several, mostly PL, most are close to the end of their subscriptions, which I may not renew.

Over the weekend, he had to figure out how to use my Cutterpede to cut some paper for his work. He had to use my crop-a-dile, as well.
I told him that his 'millions of $$' spent on scrapbook supplies FINALLY came in handy!

Haha what a concept!!! My husband probably has no idea how much stuff I actually have but he thinks I'm nuts for buying new stuff every month!
