I can read....I like to read...I realize that not everyone does but it seems like more and more content on news sites like CNN etc are video, everyone with a 15 to 30 second ad beforehand.

Sometimes I just want to scan an article to see if it's actually got useful info...can't do that with video. Sometimes at work on a break or lunch which I often read at my desk...I'd like to not have something with an audio portion playing....but mostly it's the annoying, you usually can't skip them and can't "change the channel" so to speak.

Anyone else find this annoying?

Yes! Yes! Yes! Sometimes you can't even tell it is a video "article" until you click on it. I always immediately click to close and go Google to see if the same news info is available in a non-video format.

That's what I hate about CNN! I just want to read an article not watch a damn ad about cars before a video on tornado damage dang it.

Me too. My biggest complain is that video just can't be as in-depth as a full length article.

I'm hearing impaired and I find the trend to carry so much video content over print very frustrating since the news sites very rarely include the close captioning with the videos.

I'm not really a new pea but am an anonymous pea who doesn't remember my original screen name before going anonymous. I don't want to be anonymous anymore but really I guess I am still anonymous since no one knows me anyway!

I, too, thought I was alone - a curmudgeon from the 20th century. LOL

I can read faster than anyone can talk. I don't need to waste my time - and don't even get me started on the ads. There are many reasons I don't own a tv, and "compulsory" ads rank high on that list.

So annoying. I just close it if someone links to a news video.

I can read the article in under 30 seconds. Why in the world would I want to watch a two minute video to get the same information?

Oh, wait... the 15 second ad before the video brings in more revenue than the banner along the side of the story

I hate when a video just starts playing. I hate a video without a written article accompanying it. I understand and accept the need for ads.

Yahoo is the biggest offender, I've found. Just tell me it's a video!

Oh my gosh, YES!!

If there has to be a video, then I appreciate the sites that give you the option of just reading the transcript instead.

I'm perfectly happy to see a "click-able" video that I can choose to watch to accompany the article, but please don't force me to just watch a video.

I hate the trend towards videos for news. Either I don't click the link, or back out immediately if I find that it is video. I prefer to read my news. I watch very little of the news on tv because of all the drama newscasters use and talking over each other that seems to be the thing now.

If your video does not contain a cat dressed in a shark suit riding a Roomba, don't bother me!

Yes! I feel the same way about scrapbooking websites. I don't want to see a 5 minute + detailed video of how you put your page together. The scrapbook room ones DRIVE ME NUTS! I don't want to waste 20 minutes hearing you ramble when looking at pictures is so much quicker.

Yes. I've hated this for YEARS. I work for a newspaper, I used to work for our newspaper's website, and I hhhhhhhhhhaaaaaattttte when there is no transcript or no story to accompany a video. Our newspaper is really good at only doing videos that augment stories, instead of doing videos that REPLACE stories.

I hate TV news in general -- I'd much rather read it for myself, and if it's a story I really want to follow, I want to read it in several places, from several sources. I do NOT want to watch videos.

The only time, to me, that a video *should be* used with a story is when seeing an event live is better than reading a story about it -- a parade or something like that. Why write about the floats and the bands when the video when will show it? But a video instead of a story??? Ugh -- I do not want to watch and listen to someone set it up for me (I already know about it, since I'm THERE ON THE WEB PAGE ALREADY) and I do not want narration.

I've been saying for years that the trend will swing back to written information. Video won't be going away, but eventually there will SO MUCH info out there that people will be grateful once again to have people cull it for them.

I'm in this club, too! I hate the videos - most of the time when I'm reading things online, I'm either watching TV or listening to music - I would much rather read an article than have to watch a video. Ugh!

i hate it! if i see the -play- icon in the corner of pic, i don't click it.

if i can't tell and click on it to find it's a video, i usually close the window.

i want to read a news story, not watch some talking head.

I'm joining the party! I hate the videos SO much. They put videos on because they are easier than actually reporting.

I will not click on a video link. I don't know anyone who does, so I don't understand why they continue it.

Hate them. And I really hate the videos that automatically play-usually ads-when you click on a site. I think that it's ABC news that does this. I turn the volume off so that I don't have to listen.

Yes. I can read way faster than it takes a vid to load and then WAIT FOR THE STUPID AD to stop.

And we are not alone since just this week I clicked on a news story, only to find out that it was just a video. Almost every single comment was complaining about that fact.

I hate it, too. I am also hearing-impaired and often don't have my processor on when I am browsing, so it is really annoying.

As for the ads, they make me so angry that I will often "refuse" to watch it, and read something on another tab while it plays, so they are wasted on me!

I'm taking a media writing class this semester. The fact the news for both the traditional tv news and the online print news is delivered in video format has made both of them useless imo.
