I need a gift for a coworker exchange. It has to be gender neutral and tasteful and $5 or less. No alcohol or anything risque.

I'd love to find something fun, useful or tasteful, and of course I need it to be available in a mass retailer because this just got sprung on us and I need it for Thursday.

I know you guys will have great suggestions. Let me hear 'em.

If you're near a trader joes they have some yummy, seasonal treats that are under $5.

A coworker gave me a gift today of a pint jar of Marcona almonds and chocolate covered fruits. I think I could do that for less than $5, and I love having it on my desk for nibbles!

EOS lipbalms... this week at Target $2.69. A pocket sanitizer from Bath & Body or a Gold Bond pocket lotion? I love those kinds of things.

Ceramic Tile Coasters

A co-worker just made me a set of 4 and they were the cutest!
Search Pinterest for a myriad of ideas.

You could make ones for Christmas, their hobby, a mixture of their likes (music, their college, beach, owls, etc etc).

All you need are 4 tiles (approx .14c each at Home Depot/Lowes), firm foam brush, modge podge & felt for the bottom. Wrap with a little ribbon or burlap ribbon.

Loved the idea and that they were created by her.

ETA: Oops, sorry. I just re-read your post and that they're needed by Thursday.

We play a game at Christmas & there are several prizes - about $5.00 in value - and I'm usually the one in charge of getting them.

I get several things in the food department of Target.

Target carries some fun pancake mixes - apple cinnamon, red velvet, pumpkin, and fun syrup as well. You could do this for about $5.00. (I think the pancake mix is 2.50, and the syrup might be 2.99.)

You could get a chili soup mix & a box of Krusteaz cornbread mix.

In the Mexican food aisle you can get a jar of salsa or queso dip, a box of cilantro rice & a season pack to make fajitas or pork carnitas.

You could just do a couple of chip dips & some chips for a New Years Day game kit.

They have lots of bbq sauces & marinades that could easily be a gift.

New Years Eve theme - you could maybe do some popcorn & noise makers.

Good luck!

Another vote for Trader Joes. They have a fair number of Christmas goodies that are great for gifts. I bought 5 gifts for my office -- they are really nice Italian cookie assortments. They were 6.99 each, but they have lots of options at $3-$4. One of those, plus one of their chocolate bars, would be awesome.

They sell tons of good candy and chocolates and cookies. So if the Christmas stuff isn't appealing, you could get a pkg of non-holiday stuff and put a bow on it. Those are packaged in small plastic containers. I'm partial to their peanut butter cups, almond clusters and English toffee.

You got some great ideas. I would skip the Starbucks gc. I think it's a bit of a cop out giving Starbucks all the time assuming everyone would love it. I don't drink coffee or tea. I don't stop there to have a pastry. So MY gift usually gets turned over to my DH who will use the gc. So, personally, I hate getting coffee gift cards.

My thoughts exactly. Hol-Meister. I was wondering if I was the only person in the world who would be greatly disappointed with a Starbucks card. DH always uses mine, and that's so not fair.

ITA. I drink coffee- but I never go out for coffee. I would not stop there for any other reason either. I've gotten SB gift cards in the past and just gave them away.

The Keurig pod suggestion- how do do you know they have a pod-style coffee maker? If someone gave me coffee pods, I'd have to give them away. Which isn't horrible- I know people who could use them. It just isn't a 'gift' for me.

I'd go with the Trader Joe's seasonal treats- or something similar.

I would not do the Starbucks card. It's WAY too easy and over used for this type of thing. I would use it, even though I don't drink coffee, but I would be disappointed because it almost seems like a cop out. Not creative.

Back-scratcher or head scratcher. I've seen both at Bed, Bath, and Beyond for $5 or less.

Bath and Body Works often has their liquid handsoaps and room sprays for $5 this time of year.

Gourmet hot chocolate mix in a mug is usually a welcomed gift, too.

Lots of great ideas here - thanks!

I am going to stay away from any type of gift card because the intent is to have a physical item. I love the idea of scratch off tickets but I know someone else is doing that.

I'm going to take notes from this thread and see what I can find tomorrow.

My go-to five dollar gift is a box of the Classic Favorites Pepperidge Farm cookies (4.98 at Walmart). It has an assortment of Chessmen, Lisbon, Milano, Brussels, Bordeaux, and Lido cookies.

The closest Starbucks to where I live is over an hour away, so it's not a gift card I would find all that useful.

we just did a gift exchange with our small group at church, everyone brought a Christmas coffee cup that was under five dollars, just a thought.
