FINAL UPDATE:

Oops! Forgot to update to say they were never redelivered. I'm not surprised. At all.

BUT DH sent me a beautiful bouquet on Monday from a local florist. I'm going to post a picture of it but not on this thread bc I don't want it associated with FTD.

UPDATE #2:
I will be getting a new bouquet from the florist. It won't be delivered until Wednesday (rolling my eyes), but FTD contacted DH again and said they talked to the florist and the florist assured them they will be sending a new bouquet with fresh flowers and will include roses. Supposedly the florist doesn't get their next shipment of flowers in until Monday afternoon, hence the Wednesday delivery. So we will see what these babies look like. I will for sure post pictures!

I'm going to hold off on posting anything on Facebook, etc. until I see this new arrangement. Hopefully it has some similarity to what DH picked out or he's going to blow a gasket!!!

UPDATE #1:
DH called the florist and spoke to the owner. The owner could not have cared any less. DH told him the bouquet was sad, had no roses, wilted, etc. The guy said sorry but it was thrown out there and insincere. He told DH he could deliver something else but not until Tuesday. DH said that was unacceptable as this was for Mother's Day and he wanted a refund. The owner said DH would have to take that up with FTD. See where this is going? DH told him he was shady and hung up.

He had already spoken to American Express and had the charge reversed. The most excellent thing about that is FTD will get hit with a charge for them doing that. Sweet. But still, at the end of the day, I have some heinous flowers on my kitchen table. Lol!!!

Original Post:

I know better than to use FTD or 1-800-Flowers for these kinds of things, thanks to the peas. I seem to remember a horrible arrangement a florist sent with slices of lemon in the water. Anyone remember that one?

Anyway, I got a little bouquet delivered yesterday afternoon from DS (2 years old) for Mother's Day. I honestly thought it was a nice gesture from DH and we put it on the table. I did think it was strangee that the florist who delivered it was from across town, but whatever. Thought maybe he spent like $25 on it and used a Groupon or something Fast forward a few hours and DH looks at it again and says, "That's not what I ordered."

He gets madder as he opens the picture on his phone of what he ordered. This is what he ordered, which is the "better" option of this bouquet:

This is what was delivered (I did determine the vase is the correct one). This angle is actually fairly complimentary:

No roses (there should have been 5). The flowers in the back actually have a few bent and torn off (need to take a pic of this). The daisies were already turning brown and wilted when I got them. It's clear they used the oldest flowers in the fridge for these. Too much cheap greenery filler.

Here's a top view. Sad, no?

So then I tell him this is common with FTD and these kinds of places as they just farm the order out to whatever florist will take it. And they bet on the fact that the recipient will have no idea what the bouquet should have looked like.

So then DH confesses he spent $70 on these!!! WHAT?!

At this point he calls FTD and of course is put on the phone with a call center in India. The person offers to have another bouquet resent but that the original florist will have to come pick up this one. DH declines. Wants his money back. Speaks to a manager. Manager sends him a message this morning and only offers a 25% off discount for his next order. Um. Ok. NO!!!

DH is going to call American Express and charge back the order. He's so mad! And he's going to call the florist later to complain as well. The back of their card has a 100% satisfaction guarantee on it. I'll update you when he does that

To be clear, I'm not upset at all, I honestly wouldn't have been cool with the flowers and in la-la land not having known the price he paid for this arrangement. Thought that counts and all of that. Right? But I guess that's what FTD is banking on, the recipient being ignorant of what they should have received.

And $70. ($20 of that for delivery, I think he said). Geez!!!

Just thought the peas would like to see since I've always loved these kinds of threads over here Happy Mother's Day to me!!!

That is just wrong. I am very lucky that the few times I have had flowers delivered from our local florist they have been beautiful.

DH should pursue getting full reimbursement. That is not even close to what he ordered.

Funny. I mean, sad, but funny.

There was a thing on our local cable news yesterday about how you should call your local florist to order and explain exactly what you want. If they don't have the flowers locally, they'll help you pick something similar, etc. I learned that trick from a friend years ago, but know waaaaay too many people who still use those 1-800 flower numbers.

My boss has a favorite local florist he always uses and the guy is amazing.

DH usually just picks something up on the way home, so he can see it, touch it, sniff it himself.

Oh how disappointing for you and your DH. I think that in addition to a full refund he should get compensation for the disappointment on your special day, perhaps a free little posy.

Your dh certainly deserves a refund, & FTD should be made aware of the quality of its contracted local florist.

When my dh's father passed away (800 miles away), our church grievance committee sent flowers. It was an indoor plant that luckily left more dead leaves on the driveway & front doormat than in our house. I called the mom-n-pop florist, which I'd used numerous times without complaint & highly recommended previously, to express my disappointment. The owner boldly noted the difference in quality was due to the church being a contract client. Apparently, recognizing the customer will likely never see the product it paid for gives the florist the opportunity to clean out inventory (that may had already been written off the books). Sad!

Contact the florist who delivered it. If they took the contract to provide it, then I would bring the flowers back to them today and tell them you expect a $70 bouquet comparable to the one in the photo.

That is an awful looking bouquet.

I'm always in the "it's the thought that counts" camp. But for your husband to have spent that much and you get THAT? Unacceptable.

I have used 1800 flowers and FTD in the past and always been very happy with what was delivered. Now that I keep seeing these types of threads here I don't know if I will be brave enough to ever use them again. I hope you guys are able to get a refund.

I'd be mad too.
I totally recommend your hubby getting an edible arrangement instead of flowers next year. I loved it when I got that one year.

BUT.....
Post your pictures on the FTD Facebook page (and make sure it is a public
post). Then ask a couple of friends to share the post and encourage others to share it as well.
I usually find if you hit up social media and find a way to make it go viral, they tend to fix the issue.

ETA: I see on the Facebook page, they've disabled the ability to post photos. I wonder why. </endsarcasm>

This is the reason I NEVER use FTD or 1-800 flowers for anything. There are so many local florists that there's really no need to do so.

I'm so sorry that you received such a crappy bouquet. I hope you all can get your money back.

I agree. Take them back today for either a complete replacement (and refund of the $20 delivery fee since they didn't deliver what was ordered and someone has to go back and get a new one) or a complete refund altogether.

If they refuse, document it with a follow up email that includes pictures of what was delivered vs. what had been ordered and a complete "inventory" of what was included in the bouquet vs. what was supposed to be in it. In the email just confirm any conversation you have at the florist, including names and what remedy is offered/declined. At the end of the email, state that you are opening a dispute with your credit card company. Copy the email to FTD as well.

Kroger has prettier arrangements.

Ditto this but Safeway not Kroger! Our Safeway does gorgeous bouquets and they are no where near $70!!!! And I have only ever seen the checker gals doing the flowers so not even sure they are trained florists! Either way, they do an amazing job! Of course, grocery stores don't deliver but still.....

I think your husband has every right to be upset. What was delivered does not look anything at all like the arrangement he ordered!

This is definitely one situation where it is the thought that counts! Very sweet of your DH and your DS!

Oh you guys, my DH feels so bad, like it's his fault or something, even though I've assured him it's not.

Angela, that is AWFUL about the funeral plant!

And I most certainly will post on consumerist.com Great idea.

I also thought about posting the pics on their FB page and noticed that option wasn't available. How convenient.

So here's the update that I'll add to my original post too...

DH called the florist and spoke to the owner. The owner could not have cared any less. DH told him the bouquet was sad, had no roses, wilted, etc. The guy said sorry but it was thrown out there and insincere. He told DH he could deliver something else but not until Tuesday. That's a pitiful arrangement at any price. But at a $70 price point?!? Holy cow. Completely unacceptable. What a wonderful husband to do this for you, but he's being completely taken advantage of by an unscrupulous system. A full refund is definitely appropriate.

They aren't going to issue a refund. They suck.

So let's put this out in internet land for future unsuspecting potential customers...

Do not order flowers from FTD.com, you never know what you're going to get! (edited out name of florist to see what I get on Wednesday. Let's see if they make it right).

Yep, I purchased one of those today. It's gorgeous, fresh and pretty on my table.

I can't believe a professional florist would send an arrangement like that out, whether it looked like the example or not. How is that florist in business with that kind of attitude and work .

Kroger has prettier arrangements.

That's because Kroger is the largest florist in America. They hire actual florists to run the departments, and they know what they're doing. Not all grocery store floral departments are like that.

I figured out there is a way around that.
I'd still post on Facebook in your personal profile and tag FTD and the florist in the pictures and on your post (don't forget, make it public). Then get the Facebook address of your flower pictures and post the link to the FTD Facebook page as well as an encouragement for people to visit the link and share the pictures.

Alissa, that stinks. I can't believe that any self-respecting small-business owner would send out a crappy bouquet like that, when I'm sure a good portion of their business comes from word-of-mouth advertising and repeat customers. It sucks that your totally valid complaints aren't getting you any resolution. I feel bad for your DH--here he was trying to do something really nice for you and he got burned through no fault of his own!

On another note and for anyone who needs a recommendation, the bouquet that DH sent me from ProFlowers is absolutely gorgeous! I can't find the same one on their website to provide a link, but the flowers are beautiful and fresh and not skimpy at all. Sure, I had to plop them in the vase myself and do a teeny bit of arranging but the are lovely. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend ProFlowers--we've never had a bad experience with them!

No way in hell you shouldn't get a refund. 1800Flowers can be hit or miss with quality, but they have always had good refund policies. FTD should at least be that way as well. I've heard of some folks getting a refund AND a new bouquet.

When my aunt passed away I ordered a heart shaped casket pillow with 5 red roses, one rose from each of her grand nieces and nephew. I ordered it over the phone, with a local (to her) florist. I guess since I was calling from out of state, they didn't think I would be there to see it. They delivered a cross pillow with 4 white carnations. When I called, she had every excuse in the book. She finally told me if I wanted to drive to the shop, she would give me an extra carnation that I could tuck in with the others. I lost it! Within the hour there was a heart shaped pillow with 5 red roses laying next to my beautiful Auntie. It is unbelievable what florists get away with.

See original post for update #2. Dh agreed to the Wednesday re-delivery because he had calmed down a bit and was now thinking all of this was quite humorous. We'll see what they deliver.

That really stinks. Last year, I went to the website of a florist local to my mom and ordered a bouquet from there. Mom sent me a picture of them when they arrived and they were even prettier than on the web page. I did the same for my MIL. I avoid FTD.com and 1-800-Flowers after reading about them on here.

If you have already received your money back from American Express (and eventually that will come out of the local florist), you aren't looking for a second refund from the local florist, are you?
No. The florist got in trouble with FTD and FTD is footing the bill for the bouquets to make it right with DH.

My SO did FTD for our moms this year. I didn't know until the order was already placed. My mom got the flowers that were in your first picture. Instead of a vase, they came in a paint can though I do think that SO picked the can because it's her favorite color.

His mom on the other hand, did not fair so well. She did not get any flowers at all. About 3:45 we called his mom and asked if she got something...NOPE and they were all leaving at 4. The building she worked in was actually locking up at 4 so there was no way she would get them. We called and he too talked from someone in "India" and they also refused a refund. We tried to change the address...can't do it. They will just leave the flowers.. So I told him talk to a manager, they offered Saturday delivery...it's her work, she doesn't work on Saturdays. He started yelling and asked for a manager. They finally did give him a refund and we will no longer use them. He had to make last minute arrangements with a local florist so she got flowers today.

I am sorry you had this experience. What was the florist thinking? Ugh.! Unfortunately I had my own bad day with FTD too. They sent me an email TODAY and told me the flowers I ordered Wednesday for my mom could not be ordered in Boise and they canceled my order.

It seems like they just don't really care any more. I was so upset because, well, things are not good right now for my mom and dad. My daddy is really sick and will probably die before the end of the year so I arrived at our local florist already in tears. They were able to call a florist in Boise and get an order in for me which I am so thankful for.

I just don't know if I have any faith in online florist any more. They are so sneaky and there really isn't anything we can do. We trust that what we order is what is sent and there really isn't any way to monitor it. I hate to ask for a photo of what was delivered to check. Seems a little rude but that is almost what you have to do to make sure you aren't being scammed.

I am so glad that FTD is making this right for you! Enjoy the new bouquet!

I'm in SHOCK over the difference between the two bouquets!!!! I can't believe any florist would make such an ugly bouquet and send it out. I mean when they look at it are they like wow this one is sure beautiful!!

Wow. That is terrible. The flowers bear no resemblance to what was actually ordered. Good on your DH for not letting them get away with it. I hope the new flowers are gorgeous.
