Do any of ya'll join your local swap boards on Facebook? They're kind of like a Craiglist on Facebook, if you aren't familiar with them. They're supposed to be a great place to buy gently used clothes, kids' toys, furniture, etc.

I finally got approved for the big one in my area today, and it's a hot mess. One mom accusing another of sending nude photos to her husband. A mom who was supposed to do some freelance work for another mom, but took the money and ran. Arguments over fair pricing for very used Vera Bradley and Coach purses. A throw down over whether or not it's gross to sell (or buy) used kids' underwear. Vaccination wars. Breastfeeding wars. Breastfeeding in public wars. A mom running a scam to get free formula, with a WIC counselor trying to intervene and get the mom signed up. Of course, then the thread turned into non-WIC moms slamming moms who use WIC.

It kind of makes the NSBR look tame!

The only FB swap page I belong to is with the women at my Church. We're pretty tame.

I had no idea what I was walking into! I'm on several other FB buying groups, for specific brands/items, and they're all about listing items and people buying them. There are no conversations, no debates, etc!

I'm on several local Facebook boards. One board recently had some very negative comments about our local grocery store. That's about it!

I just removed myself from a coupon fb group because of issues like these. All I wanted was to go to the group page and see if there were any good deals around, it was a hot mess with a bunch of bickering.

Briefly. It was too much drama and effort to sell a small amount! So I deleted all of them and mostly consign or list on BooKoo. That way I can control the crazies to a point. We have a few boards in this area and it's all the same. Can't people be nice anymore!?

I'm in a few local buy sell groups and it all seems to depend on the admins. The stricter boards are listings only and the drama has no opportunity to start.

One if the boards is much more lax and that's where the crazy dwells.

I firmly believe that people (in general) have lost their grip on what it means to behave in public. It's a sad statement on society really.

But it can be highly entertaining.

Yes. And it's a mad house. It's a great way to sell things in a small community, but wow. Keyboard bravado at its finest. There is a pet buy sell one that is just crazy drama. People selling pet rats and people with snakes buying them as food. Arguments over every little thing, and shaming left right and centre.

I belong to a local resale group that is pretty big (around 7K, last time I checked). There's a whole bunch of rules to follow but last summer it was a great way to get rid of stuff for a little extra spending money. You can meet wherever you want but they do have an organized meet-up every Thursday night at a local church parking lot. They charge $3 to sell, nothing for buyers coming to collect items.

Well, some people didn't like the rules, so they started their own "no rules" board, but that imploded, and then people that didn't like pay the whopping $3, so they set up shop in a Kohl's parking lot close by, and the Kohl's manager called the police on them...

I try really hard to steer clear. I know the main admin of the group and she works really hard to keep the peace but it's like herding cats.

I was waiting for someone before a meet night once when a friend of mine with the local police rolled up. They had a warrant out for one of the women and were using the meet to snag her.

I'm a part of a group like that. I stay for the entertainment value. I RARELY post, and if I do, it's to questions like, "Where's the best Chinese food?"

What kills me is these local women have their full NAMES and PICTURES attached to their profiles. Boggles my mind.
