I was so fortunate to have a great MIL. She suddenly died almost a year to the day today. I loved her very much but didn't spend near enough time with her. We had some very good times and in my life she was the most positive, upbeat person I have ever known. I have to say if there is someone in your life you love, don't miss opportunities to spend time with them. I know we are all busy. Don't miss time with people you love. We never know when they might be gone.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I know how you feel. I love my MIL. She has been so supportive for me since my dad died as well as since I've been so sick. I try to spend as much time as I can with her because I know it will be so hard after she's gone.

You didn't mention your own mother. I know very well that not all mothers should be celebrated. Whatever your situation, I send you hugs and hope you find peace and rest today.

thanks for the thread. I still have my MIL but she's in end stages of Alzheimers disease. We get a glimpse every once in a while of who she was.

My mom and I didn't always get along, but boy do I miss her now!!

I'm sorry you miss her. I love my MIL too. She is great, beautiful and very talented in every possible way. She's coming for brunch a little later and I always stress out that we haven't done enough for her. My love language is gifts. We got her a Kuerig and some other little things, but now I'm beating myself up that I haven't gotten her any flowers, made her something beautiful, or planned a big outing. Ugh.

Anyway, hugs to you.

Thank you all so much. My mom has a terminal cancer, but we make the most of the time we have. She and my MIL were best friends so she will for sure be remembered today. Pennyring, I'll bet your MIL will be thrilled with whatever you do today.

I miss my MIL, too. She died almost ten years ago, but she hasn't been forgotten.

I'm sorry for your much more recent loss.

I'm another one of those lucky enough to have a wonderful MIL. She is so supportive of DH and me. She is busy these days helping her son who is now a single dad of 6 (his wife walked out on the family) but she makes time to make sure the kids know they are loved.

She has health/financial issues now so I wish her burdens were less but she is still a kind/loving woman/mom.

OP-thanks for starting this thread as it seems a few of us have/had great MIL's. I'm glad you had a wonderful one for as long as you did and hope that today you can find some peace in the happy memories of her.

This is the first Mothers Day without my wonderful MIL too. She always treated me like the daughter she never had. We all miss her.

My virtue has been restored! =)

I also miss my wonderful MIL. She had more interest in my life than my own mother. We would talk for hours.

I'm so sorry for your loss. It is one of the greatest blessing to have a mother in law that you love, and that loves you back. My MIL is one of my best friends, and I'm closer to her than my own mom. I hope you find comfort today, in the memories of your beloved mother in law.

Never forget, every day is a once in a lifetime experience.
