Do you tend to scrap more everyday pages or big events? Which comes easiest to you? What are your struggles with big events or everyday pages?

I do both, everyday and event stuff. I don't find either one more difficult than the other really. Sometimes I have trouble with both and sometimes I can whip out pages on just about anything, lol.

Everyday stuff. Love it. so easy to scrap.

Big events, holidays, etc. are wonderful to enjoy, uninspiring to scrap. I think I'm two years behind on Christmas because I just can't get motivated.

I think I want them to be "perfect" and thus create nothing at all in deference to my fear that they won't be.

I do both, but the big events are harder for me to scrap.

The reason is because I have so many photos. For example, a birthday. I might split it up and make a layout for the party, another for opening presents, another just for the cake and blowing out candles. But having so many photos is a challenge to get them on the page and still have room for some embellishing. I often end up covering up most of the page with pictures and you barely see the background.

One or two photos of a fun or special everyday moment is easier for me because there's more room on the page.

eta: Great question, I'll be watching this thread.

I do both. I've always got the camera out & ready to shoot. So I scrap a little of everything.

I end up doing a lot more every day events because my family does not do pictures on holidays. Cameras seem to send the extended family running, so I don't even pull it on on Christmas/Easter/etc. any longer. Weddings seem to be the one big exception to the big event rule -- I tend to get lots of photos, and I really enjoy being able to scrap those events!

I prefer big events with very few 'everyday' pages thrown in.

I've been scrapping since 2001 and already I can watch a pattern developing with how the books are viewed and appreciated, even by me.

We love the vacation and big event layouts. The everyday stuff we seem to skim over until we get to the year end summary pages. Every year I do a summary page of each family member and those are treasured but the individual layouts that I spent hours on weren't so much.

So now I focus on what we personally enjoy the most and when I just need to be creative for the art of it I focus on making cards.

I do both.
Big events tend to be easier because manufacturers have created lines of coordinated things to use for common big events.

Every day things stretch my creativity more so it can be harder but more enjoyable too. I feel like what I end up with is more "me" than prefabricated.

My family doesn't really do "big events." Holidays are very low-key, if they are celebrated at all. Same with birthdays.

So the only "big events" that get photos and pages are trips and vacations.

My books are filled with everyday life--I am working on a page right now about my allergies and what I am allergic to and all the meds I have to take. I did a layout the other day about being diagnosed with hypothyroidism. I scrap days at the lake with friends, some of my favorite clients, all the skin care/hair care products I use, favorite outfits, the Betsy Johnson dress my daughter was so thrilled to buy as a birthday gift to herself, a great meal I cooked...stuff like that.

I also do both, but I find the events to be more difficult to scrap because I usually have lots of pics and in general, I use just a few pics on a page or even just one.

I enjoy doing both. The everyday pages are my opportunity to do single page layouts with one or two pics and the big events are my time to do 2-pagers with multiple pics. But I also scrap a singe pic layout if there's just a REALLY good shot on vaca or a holiday, etc.

I'm just anything goes when it comes to scrapbooking.

I think these pages will end up being such treasures later on. I wish I had more "everyday" things memoralized. My mother was wonderful about taking photographs and putting them in albums. And yet there is so much of the "everyday" from "back then" that I would love to have documented now - but people just didn't do that back then. The places we used to eat, the places we shopped, the things we did for fun - all went unrecorded and exist only in memory. It makes me sad to think of how many things I've certainly forgotten.

I tend to focus on the fact that even if my mother had lovingly recorded every birthday and holiday from birth - 18 that would be, at best 18, 40, 60, maybe 100 days of our entire lives together captured in vivid "dress up" detail. I really love the "everyday" stuff too.

Lately I have beeen scrapping more events related pages. My son is 14 now and isn't exactly eager to take photos. I'll probably be doing some teen angst pages LOL. My 2 year old nephew is a willing participant so I'll be doing more pages about him.

I tend to do primarily events, since that is what I have the most pictures of. I don't normally take photos everyday or just because. So I have less of those types of pictures to scrap.

Definately everyday moments for me. I love candid shots of a face, an expression, an emotion. Holidays are so hectic, so many people, etc. I like to scrap them, but I do prefer the unplanned, candid shots.

I think you could still do this if you want.
Take a picture of the restaurant you went to as a family and journal about it.
What you used to do as a family and get a photo of the park or where ever you went to as a family.

I was thinking of doing this as my parents never took pictures.

I scrap both and don't that I have difficulties with one more than the other. The only struggle that I think I have is when adding a title to an everday layout. Titles don't come easy to me

I scrap both equally. One thing I don't do anymore is take thousands of photos at holiday time. I still cover the event, but after 10 years have realized that I don't need pages of photos from each and every holiday.

I do both, but I especially love scrapping the everyday moments of life with my children. They do such silly, fun, unexpected things on an everyday basis, it makes for such fun layouts and so many stories! My only problem is that there are so many great pictures. It's hard to narrow it down.

I do both types of pages. For me, I am challenged by the fact that we seem to go to the same places or I have the same type of photos for the holidays each year. So I am trying to avoid creating the same type of thing year after year, if you know what I mean??!!

I do everyday stuff. And if I am scrapping a big event, I choose an everyday-type photo.

For my brother's wedding, I only scrapped a photo on my son trying on his little suit the week before the wedding. You only know the event b/c of the journaling.

These pages just seem more alive to me. Like candids.

So far, I've done mostly big events because I started scrapbooking relatively late. It's really important to me to scrapbook those vacation or once-in-a-lifetime moments. My goal is to get them done by June 2010 and then I'm moving onto more everyday memories and some creative ideas I have just for my own enjoyment.

I tend to do more everyday pages as life is always changing and always different! There's more variety, as far as I'm concerned, in everyday stuff.

I have trouble scrapping big events because it's hard to make them different, at least for me it is. You have the same stuff at Christmas, Easter, weddings, etc. After a while, the pages all start to look alike. So I prefer doing pages on everyday life, which is much more interesting!

I do both equally. I scrap just about everything. If I like a story, or I like a picture, I'll scrap it.

The only problem with big events, is I can't limit myself to one page. I take too many pictures!

I scrap the every day moments more than anything else. I don't scrap birthday or Christmas pictures at all. I find that they are very chaotic to look at, and they are generally all the same. I do scrap Halloween photos though...LOVE those! Otherwise, it's just the regular, day to day stuff that makes up our lives...kids playing in the yard, vacations, day trips around our area...that sort of thing.

I am probably more a "big event" scrapper and they do come easier to me. But I do a lot of every day pages too, especially about my cats and the trail near our house. I have to be majorly inspired before I do those though.

I definitely prefer everyday los...I find events to be difficult to scrap...usually too many pics and sometimes just not as interesting as the others...I don't scrap christmas. That is far too overwhelming to me...I have a photo book printed for that occasion although I do have plans to scrap my christmas card...birthdays are the worst for me!

I only struggle with a page when I have no story to tell.

So if I just have a great photo but with nothing compelling to journal about I often push it to the side.

Otherwise, because I'm looking for "the hook" or "the angle", the pages most scrappers hate doing like Christmas and birthdays are easy for me because I'm doing more than "this is what we did and what we got for presents".

Would recommend Nic Howard's book on Everyday moments for everyone, lots of fun ideas.

Non-events pages with a great story are my favorites. In fact, Christmas photos bug me so much that I haven't scrapped them in years. I just stick them in a photo album.

I second the recommendation of Nic Howard's book. It's fabulous. Also Rebecca Sower's books--those were the two that really gave me permission to scrap what I wanted to--to tell the stories that matter to me...not just the big events.

Really glad this was asked because now I know I'm not alone! The events are harder for me and I'm pretty sure it's because I have lots of photos from the event but not much of a story....for me, it's much harder to design multiple photo pages than those with one or two photos that just have a story to tell. Those come easier for me I've noticed and I'm looking forward to doing more pages like that after I get done scrapping about my past and can focus more on the present. I've also noticed that 12 x 12 albums are harder for me because I use more photos.....8 x 8 or 8 1/2 x 11 are less trouble, therefore more fun! Great question!

instead of trying to cram the whole day onto a page in a multiphoto/2 page layout, why not focus on one story that does stand out to you from that big event?

I took a ton of photos at Thanksgiving but instead of doing a layout with a picture of the table, a few candids of the people, the decorations, etc I did a layout on how my Uncle is the only one left in the family who knows how to carve a turkey

I do better with big events because I choose a theme and stick to it. Kind of like doing a mini album.

With fewer pictures I have to change it around and come up with new ideas more often.
