I used grunge paper and the cuttlebug die to cut out and emboss the butterfly. I love it! Sorry no pic.

I want the Hero Stamp set.

Mine are hand-cut around stamped images. I use an emery board to smooth any edges so they look rounded and clean.

The Cuttlebug cut and emboss die is absolutely gorgeous, I would highly recommend this. I use it in my old, trusty red Sizzix machine.

I also have a largish EK Success punch and a smaller butterfly punch that I don't know the brand name of (it was from a supermarket). I love having the variety of sizes to use to complement each other on my projects.

BTW for one of my cards this NSD, I die cut the Cuttlebug butterfly from shrink plastic, heated it and then added pastel embossing powder over the top. I love the effect and will be keeping the shrink plastic nearer to hand for future projects. It's been a while since I used it.

Edited to add, I managed to buy these Brenda Walton patterned and glittered chipboard butterflies locally and they are truly divine! Unfortunately I couldn't get the papers to match

I stamp and cut out just like Diane. I have a few QK butterflies but I much prefer stamping and cutting because I can watercolor, etc., and dress them up a bit plus the stamps have nice detail. You can see one of my watercolored butterflies on this layout here.

I LOVE butterflies too...and actually today's blog post has several examples.

They are stamped on grungepaper, to create a fun dimensional embellishment...

Take a look.

My Pazzles, Slice, or the new All-A-Flutter punch from Fiskars. I've set myself a goal of 10 layouts from my stash before buying anything, and I plan to reward myself with the cut and emboss Cuttlebug butterflies.

Wendy - I LOVE the butterflies you posted on your blog with the Grungepaper...I would like to do something similar at the LSS I work at. Can you give instructions on how to make the different stamped shapes with the grungepaper? Also, do you only use the Distress inks? Or is there some paint involved, as well?

Thanks so much!!!!!!!

Trisha...
Thanks so much. Stamping combined with grungepaper is the bomb!

Here's the basics...

I stamped the butterfly (studio 490 stamp) on the smooth side of the grungepaper. Cut it out...then ink with the distress ink color of your choice on the front & the back. Apply the ink with a blending tool for easy application.
I always stamp the back too...if you're going to make dimensional grunge.

To create the dimension...just roll the grunge & it magically holds it's shape.

It's great fun to make custom embellishments...
BUT be warned...

It's VERY ADDICTING!
Have fun!
wendy

HERE is a pick of the embossing part of the cuttlebug A2 combo butterfly. It has the metal die to cut the pieces and the four little folders to emboss after.

HTH!

I love butterflies too. DS ordered me One of These the 4" die from 2peas, I can't wait to get it. I will have to get the CB set too, I have been eyeing that one for awhile.

I haven't seen Grunge paper IRL, but I think it's like the Grunge board, but 12" size and thinner. I don't have a close lss. When I see some I will get that too.

The K&Co lotus butterfly die-cut paper = amazing.
Otherwise, punching them out from punchers and hand-cutting them is a good alternative technique I use.

I either use my Slice as they have several on the basics 2 card or I use the Spellbinders shapabilities in my Cuttlebug as it cuts, embosses and you can use it as a stencil to color it if you choose. Its really cool to cut out of vellum as the wings kind of quiver.

I just finished designing cards for an upcoming cards class. Two of the cards had butterflies. I used the Spellbinder butterfly dies. I love the way Spellbinder dies cut and emboss. I tried reverse stenciling on one of the butterflies and loved how it turned out.

I use the Cuttlebug die w/ the embossing folders ALL THE TIME. I also have 2 MS butterfly punches (Classic & Royal Butterfly) and the ones on Storybook and Graphically Speaking. Ordered 2 sheets of the Amy Butler Lotus ones from 2 Peas (gorgeous!) and have the Stampin' Up! butterfly die on order. Love them all... Check out GG Robyn Werlich's blog and her friend Amy Yingling's blog. Lots of butterfly goodness there...
