Just read the post on Ali's blog. Man, I'll miss that.
Been out of scrapping for a while but am back now and reading all the blogs and boards here at TwoPeas. Missed this place!
I'll miss that column too. Wonder what she has in store?? |

No more what? I think you left off part of your title. |

I just read that too. I am concerned with the future of the mag. If the top contributers leave what will happen next?? |

I just read that on her blog. That is so sad. Ali is probably the mail reason I read CK any more. I hope we see more of Ali in other places.

Ali's column was the only thing that kept me subscribing to CK for a while. But, it got to a point that it wasn't worth it for even that.
And, with all the 'names' jumping ship from CK, I'm not surprised at her departure.

My bad!! I used quotes around Studio A and the software didn't like it, lol! I edited. |

Wait. What?
I don't subscribe, I just pick it up whenever I'm at the LSS or grocery store. Who else is leaving? |

Wow! I know Lisa is stopping doing the intros after January as well. Seems like everyone is leaving. I really hate that Ali is quiting. I subbed for her and Jennifer McGuire. If she leaves that will be it for me. |

just got an email not too long ago for like a buy one get one subscription free, I think. Big push for the holidays and to get numbers up before readers found out she's leaving. |

Oh no! That was my favorite column, too. I like having inspiration in magazine form not just on the internet so I can take them with me when we go camping in the summer or go visit relatives. |

I'm very sad about this, not just because we're losing Ali but because of the larger implications for losing our two remaining scrap mags. I see it as part of the downward trend...so sad |

I agree, I see it as part of a downhill trend, unfortunately. Maybe I'm wrong about that but this is NOT good news. I always thought she was one of the best things about CK. I wonder if it's a cost-saving measure or something else. Whatever the reason, I am very sorry to hear this news.

I have to admit that her column has not been what it was in the past. Some of her pages don't even use products anymore.
Its been about a year or so since she's inspired me at all.
To see her go is going to leave a huge hole in this magazine, but it shouldn't com as a surprise to anyone. They've been on a downslope for a while now.
I know they are losing advertising dollars too. I heard a store owner discussing this the other day. They pay $250 a MONTH to get a tiny little listing in the back with hundreds of other stores. She said it was one thing when they had a bunch of magazines and the store was listed in all of them, but her monthly fee hasn't changed. With the rumor or them going to 6 mags a year, thats a big blow for the stores paying the big dollar.
As for Ali, I've been looking elsewhere for inspiration.

I'm very sad as well......loved reading her columns.....one of the few I've enjoyed. Unfortunately w/ the folding of two other mags, I now have a subscription until 2011....is there any possibility of cancelling and getting a refund? Has anyone tried that and what was the outcome?
On the brighter side...perhaps this will open the door for new talent and the next big "star"?

Bunny Lady,
Becky Higgins announced she was no longer with CK not long ago. If I remember correctly, her last column is in the Dec issue too.

I canceled my MM sub. when that mag went south, after the big shake up. I only ended up getting a couple of dollars back, yet had a while on that sub. Can't remember how long. Too far removed from the situation.
It was a wasteful decision. But, the magazines were awful at that point. |

I will miss Ali also. I really like CK - I had quit buying mags a few years ago - because they were just selling products - the layouts were way "out there" and I didn't get much out of them. I am on the last end of my 2 year sub at CK and I have really enjoyed it. It's not all ads and trying to sell me a product I don't need. Which is probably why they don't have the $ to keep it going.
It seems kind of like a catch 22 - if they have too many ads we don't buy them - if they don't have ads they struggle.
I probably shouldn't say this but... we are the people who should be kekeping these mags in business - we should be encouraging them but it seems like I see a lot of negatives here about the mags - but not much positives.

I know the magazine is under new ownership now so maybe they are cutting their ties with all the big names to save money or start fresh?? Or Ali, Becky and Lisa want to leave because of the new ownership?? Either way I am curious to see what happens. I was just about to send in my renewal because my subscription expires next month, but I don't know now. I haven't loved the magazine much over the last eyar anyway, but since there is nothing else out there....

I had no idea! Wow, there really WAS a shake-up, lol!!
I think Ali's fantastic no matter where her work appears. It's not even really the layouts that do it for me, it's the philosophy. That, and she once posted on her blog about an experience she had in a post office with Simon. I think the title of the blog post was "tender". It made me see that she lives her life first, records it second. So many of the scrapbookers that I see in the mags seem to think about scrapbooking as the end, rather than living their lives and THEN recording it.
I dunno, too philosophical for a Wednesday morning, lol!! But thanks for letting me know about Becky!
