I actually have in the last few months used a lot of my scraps. Although, I have quite a bit of scraps so it will probably take me just as long to use my scraps as it will to use my paper. |

I fixed this when I was decluttering...
I got them all together, pulled out a couple of pieces of PP that I loved, flicked through the rest and donated the lot to the local school.

Question of the Week: Do you actually use your scraps?
Yes, I do use my scraps. My scraps are organized in an expandable file folder by CM (I don't think they sell it anymore). It has tabs on each section and is sorted by colors just like my cardstock. Within each section, I have a file folder that contains the scraps. That way I can pull out all that color and look through it more easily.
The only thing I need to do is purge my scraps! I have tons of teeny tiny pieces that I'm sure I'll never use. And I guess I should decide what the minimum scrap size that I'll keep will be. |

Yes, i use mine. I have mine in 2 large plastic envy's, separated by color. I need to go thru them again and throw some smaller pieces out. The 2 envy's take up little space, which is good! |

Yes I use my scraps - I have a big box of them & I flick through if I need a smallish piece, say for a title or a tab or a die cut ... I'm not so good with "big" scraps.
I know from experience that envelopes or anything that requires thought/effort will not work for me - however I also know I need to be a bit more organised so I can find a scrap of white when I want one!
I'm planning on getting a bunch of magazine type files & storing all my A4, 8x8, 6x6 & scraps (cut to decent sizes & into regular shapes) by color in these boxes. Hopefully I will then turn to my smaller pieces before my 12x12 in future |

I have all my small scraps in baggies seperated by color and then put them all in a shoe box. It's easy for me to grab the shoe box and set it by me when I'm scrapping. This way I grab for those first before grabing for a new sheet. My larger scraps I keep in a 12x12 craft keeper envelope, I seperated them by color and pattern. So far this has worked for me and I find I've been using my scraps more. Which is one of my goals this yr

I have actually taken scraps and recycled them into my own homemade paper.
Having said that, it was a lot more "work" than what I liked, so now I toss them.
My son and his friend discovered my little tool kit to make paper and tried it themselves. I told them, it looked like a rainbow threw up! |

I have all my cardstock scraps separated by color but my pp scraps are just a mess. LOL I have an entire tub, YES! A laundry tub of scraps in total! Yes, I use them. I go to my scraps first, but I just have so many. I used to have an online store that I sold cardstock and pp punchies (Bunches of Punches), along with punches, punchart, the whole sheebang. Anyway, I still have the scrap selection leftover from that biz. I weeded out a lot the first go around last year, but really need to get through this with all of you gals this year! |

Because I keep my scraps in the front of each 12 x 12 hanging paper file, I grab a scrap first instead of a full sheet. Useable large scraps go back in the front of the file for that color. This is so simple, and it has worked for me for several years.
This is like the military, File to the front. Only one place to look for paper.
So, to answer the question, Yes I use my scaps.

I have a very old cropper hopper with hanging folders that have large sized zip lock bags and my scraps are sorted by colors into each folder inside a baggie.
YES, I use my scraps!! I made over a dozen mini paperbag albums for gifts for my nieces and nephews at the end of last year. I would grab a baggie of a color or two and pick scraps to make the albums! It was a fun and freeing process!! I have a few more albums to make. I recently started grabbing coordinating color bags to go with my pages for bits of color to layer on the LO.
That said, of course I could do some purging of the very old odd color pieces...

I do use my scraps. I have 3 craftkeeper envelopes. One holds solid neutrals, the other solid colors and the third pp. I go there first for matting for sure and to the pp when I am doing a layout with smaller pieces. I've been making a lot of cards lately so I have a pile on my desk of the smaller pp pieces and have been using a bunch of them. But I also threw out a ton of teeny tiny pieces. And I think this week I will go through each envelope and get rid of anything smaller that I would use on a card. |

I use my solid CS scraps all the time. In fact, I keep those scraps right in the same CH with the full sheets so they get used (and used up) a lot!
Now PP scraps are another story. Once I stopped card-making, I realized I almost never use my PP scraps. So they are down to one small holder and its pretty much just Basic Grey because that's my fav line and I just can't seem to throw the pieces away LOL.

Yep! I use my scraps...mostly for cards or tags or die cutting but sometimes on LO's if they are big enough.
I have my scraps all organized by color in some vertical storage similar to CH... I hope to change this over to actual CH because its sturdier but what I have now is working and it is most definitely organized so this was an easy week for me!

I have mine in Sterlite containers. That being said, they are all just thrown in there, not separated by color or size or anything, SOOOO, that's my first job, to get them all out and separate them. Then I need to either clean out the other drawers in the sterlite, or find somewhere else for the scraps.
Do I use my scraps? On occasion. They are under my desk, so most usually I just kind of forget I have them. I do have good intentions with them, I always think, "Oh, my grandkids could use these for their paper projects".....do they? No.

Ugh! I need to think again - I went to buy the boxes/files I wnat to use & they are so darned expensive I really can't afford it! What happened to the "cheap & cheerful" stuff that I was buying just a couple years ago?
If this was my own place & I was def staying here for a while it may be differnet, but I need to be realistic about this 'cos I am hoping that I'll be moved house in the next few months & anything I buy now may well not be suitable when I have to reorganise a new space!
I wonder if I can swing a trip to IKEA tomorrow? It'll be crazy busy but they sell just what I need ... it's about 1hr drive ... |

I have the Craft Pro File from Cropper Hopper for my scraps. This works really good for me because I can keep different sizes and colors seperate. It has 2 file pockets that hold 6x6 or smaller with enough tabs that I can keep each color seperate. It has 1 file pocket for 12x6 or smaller with several tabs ,I keep the colors divided 2 to a file tab, and on the back it has a 12x12 file pocket for all my larger scraps and I arrange them the same as the 12x6 file pocket.

Question of the Week: Do you actually use your scraps?
I save the bigger sized scraps for tags and such.
I use the smaller ones to test stamp colors, start glue, use underneath on edges, etc
The larger sized ones (4x4 or bigger) I purchased an accordian file to sort by color. I plan on finishing that project this weekend.
The smaller ones are just in a basket on my work table for easy reach. |

Scrap week already... oops.... so now I have to tackle those piles of scraps... WHAAAAAA Better not read this post, skip while you can...
First: Yes, I do use my scraps. But somehow they multiply when I'm not around....
AND NOW: GET YOURSELF A COMFI CHAIR, GRAB A BAG OF SOMETHING SWEET, HAVE A GLASS OF SOMETHING TO DRINK (AND REFILL BOTTLE ALONG) AND READ ALL ABOUT MY SCRAPS...
My PP scraps are very well organized. They are in loose pageprotectors just in the accordion of the brand they're from (see week 4, paperorganizing). When I scrap or make cards, I first grab those pageprotectors and search through them for nice paper. It works both ways, likes someone did mention earlier: I use up my scraps AND I don't have to cut in my oh so lovely darling uncut papers...lol
CS scraps work the same way, also in pageprotectors next to the cardstock, first grab for the scraps, when nothing is in there, then go for the whole sheets.
But last and certainly NOT least... the rest. I have so many other papers I tend to use like scraps.
- I have a small drawer full of origami papers. Used to do origami when I was a teenager, and now and then I like to try again and fold some small flat 'embellishments' for use on cards or LO's.
- I have a drawer full of 'speciallity' papers, like corrugated paper in several colours, flocked paper in several colours, patterned and coloured heavy-weight paper, sheet like papers, vellum, mica and some more.
-I have a drawer full of solid papers. I have bought several craft kits in all these years of crafting so there be lots of these papers in several sizes.
- I have a drawer full of old craft scraps. In here are pieces of doilies and other misc. stuff, along with millions of tiny bits and bobs of papers.
- I have some A4 paper in plastic organizing files. In one I have the 'handmade' papers I own, in another small pieces of gold and silver foildecorated papers.
- On my desk I have three lettersorting trays stacked. In there I pile up scraps that don't have sorted yet, because the scrap drawer is full (Yes, I know, I am a hoarder and yes, I know a have a problem... )
- Next to my desk I have a basket with all sorts of inlays from scrapbooksupplies. ie. the Prima stamps do come with some darling green shaped background paper I can not trow away. Really... why do all manufacturers make such nice packings these days. The paper lover in me just can't just put that in the recyclebin straight away.... (did I mention yet I have a huge hoarding problem? )
Well that's all folks... Are you still with me?
I do have to purge this week. I do have to confront myself with all those papers and be strong. I do have to get rid of most of those scraps otherwise they'll take over my whole room sometime in the very near future. Please stay with me... PLEASE!!!

I use Cropper Hopper paper holders for mine. All the big scraps go in a 12x12 vertical paper file. And all the little ones go in an 8x8 paper file. Each file has dividers, sorted by color. I'm a little OCD about it, but I do use mine just about every time I scrap.

I have my scraps sorted into a 6 drawer steralite tower. It's divided into black/white/gray, brown, blue, green, red, and pink/purple/orange/yellow. For pp, I look at the paper and determine what color it "reads" to me, and that's where it goes. About once a week I go through and file my scraps. I try and reach there first before going to full pieces.
I don't use my pieces as much as I should, but I'm trying to remedy that by using them on mini books, because I have entirely too many chipboard books from the dollar section, too!

I just spent the past 3 days trimming up my scraps and throwing stuff away. Previously I had all my cs scraps divided loosely by color just standing up in an shoe box. I would just rifle through it when I needed something. My PP was just thrown in a plastic tub willy nilly. It worked ok but I wanted something more compact and wanted all my scraps in one place.
Here's what I did: I wanted to keep the scraps as large as possible but still have them fit in the one 13x13 container I have for them. I make a LOT of cards and mini books so I decided I would cut card fronts from CS. I cut everything else into half inch increments at least 2 inches wide and no longer than 6'. I also did some 4x8. So my measurements for cardstock are as follows
5.5x4.25 (A2 card fronts)
4x8
2x6
2.5x6
3x6
3.5x6
4x6
4x4
5x5
6x6
6x5
a few of the strips are 4x5 so I can still use them on a card.
PP I did like this
6x6
6x5
4x8
2x6
2.5x6
3x6
3.5x6
4x6
4x4
5x5
6x6
My scraps had to be at least 2 inches wide and no shorter than 4.5". They all fit in the designated container and now all I have to do is make dividers with the measurements on them. I'm not going to worry about keeping the colors together. I can just take out a stack and flip through them like cards to see what I want/need.
This took me ages and I gave my MM trimmer a run for it's money but I just put on my Broadway cast recording cd's and went to town.
Wel I just tried to take a picture of the finished product and my battery died so I'll edit this post and add it later. If you're still with me, thanks for reading this far! |

Question of the Week: Do you actually use your scraps?
Sadly, I rarely use my scraps. I am not that great at coordinating paper so I tend to go with kits and collections. I have my scraps sorted by color. I did this last year when I did my big reorganization. I haven't used any of the scraps this year. I have kept up my system throughout the year. The only reason I am not throwing out my scraps is because I want to start thinking outside the box and actually using scraps and coordinating my own looks. This is what keeps me from chucking it all.
It looks like I will have another week off because my paper (scrap and otherwise) is under control. I have plenty of other challenges ahead don't worry.

Wow, I am impressed with some of your methods of storing scraps - very methodical and highly organized!
I got tickled at those of you who threw them away - very liberating and super simple. And, yes, I think it is a perfectly acceptable method.
Well, I am still working on my overwhelming paper stash, which will take me most of my time this coming week to complete. I am thrilled, therefore, I do not have to do anything for scrap week.
I have a table that is counter height and purchased 8 Purple Cow iCube soft-sided drawers to go underneath. My paper cutter is on the table so I can easily pull a drawer out and put it on the table to find what I need. Plus, it is very easy to clean-up when I have finished. I use the drawers for my solid CS and then I use CH Scrap Paper pouches for my PP scraps. I place the pouches inside my CH paper holders alongside the matching collection. I do not tend to save many of the smaller PP pieces since I have so much darn paper to begin with.
Welcome to the group, LilacGal! It is never too late to join in the fun.

I use my scraps and hence, do not have many. I almost feel like I don't have enough to really bother to organize, but I suppose I could get them in an expandable file or something. Right now, they're just tossed in a basket. And I should really trim them. I always just toss them in there however they were when I last used them.

Guess what?
First of all, the "kids" are gone! One went home this afternoon. One went home this evening.
Okay, now... We went shopping this evening. I got a K & Co. paper stack, sorry to say... oops!
More importantly though, I bought a half dozen Cropper Hopper vertical paper holders, 2 3-packs of Cropper Hopper divided paper pockets, and 2 of the 6-drawer clear snap-tight (I don't know exactly what they're called) storage units...
I can only hope that I have less than 1200 pieces of paper. Otherwise, I'm going to be going back to JoAnn's. I'm going to organize by manufacturer/color into the Cropper Hopper vertical paper holders. As for the 2 6-drawer clear snap-tight storage units, I'm probably going to use one for scraps (any thing smaller than 12x12, since 12x12 seems to be the "standard" size for scrapbooking). The other one I'm not so sure about yet, but everything I bought was 40% of, so... that makes it alright, you know...
Now, it's time to get down to business. First things first... I have to fold up the air mattress and put it away. After that, I have to finish cleaning that room out. I'll post my progress tomorrow night.
Happy organizing! |

Those big paper pads, however, have almost done me in this week. I have finally, and I mean finally, been cured of purchasing anymore. Thank goodness I have been cured of something.
Hope it goes well!!!

I'm still here with everyone, I have to say for me I knew how hard the paper week was gonna be so I started early two weeks later and 12" of paper to get rid of and 40 c.h. paper holders later. I can say that I'm done.
As for my scraps I just but them in a c.h. paper file by color. I like because it limits the amount of scraps.

A week ago I was doing a search about decluttering your craft room and found the organizing threads over here and started reading them. Then I got hooked on the board. I hope it's ok to join in.
I love scraps. I use them all the time. I am the girl that can buy a $2.00 sheet of paper and make it last five years, lol.
I have a pretty decorator box I keep my scraps in. I have them all organized in baggies. If I can punch it then I will keep it.
I do go through it periodically and remove what is not my style currently or papers that have been damaged. Not my style papers go to my Mom or I swap them.
Thank you to everyone who started this amazing challenge. I have read wookiemouse blog. I am a declutter expert. I had a closet for the longest time that was my crafting space. DH & I both craft so his crafting space was in a different area. We just got a crafting room and I am trying to organize it but keep it simple.

I do not have that many scraps ( but i do use them)so this week was easy.
Before I had my scraps mostly in a ring binder in page protectors sorted bij color
Smaller pieces are in my ‘box of scraps’. It’s a box where some sort of game came in it is
13x6.5 and not even an inch high and I altered it.
I never used the scraps in my ring binder but the box of scraps I use very often.
I practically save every scrap, really small pieces I use as paper ribbon or journaling strips. I always just toss them in there however they were when I last used them, you know I might just want to use the piece that is dangling on there…
So the box I left as it was except that I pulled out the bigger pieces and threw them in a wooden Ikea drawer bin that my son had sitting in his room whit noting in it….
For now the top drawer holds bleu and green and second red, yellow, orange, purple, beige and white. Maybe when this challenge continues I will want to use the second drawer for something else and throw al the scraps together.

Crap, I'm still on the paper sorting! Am I the only one?
As far as scraps, I have 3 plastic storage containers 15"W x 22"L x 6"D.
They are labeled "Cardstock", "Paper", & the other one "Embellishments". I rather like the idea of looking thru stuff so I don't sort it any other way. I do go thru it often enough, if I don't like something out it goes!
I do use my scraps!
Ok, going back to the paper monster. |

lilacfey and lilacgal, Welcome! If you worry you are the only one struggling, you can read my blog for encouragement! ...prior to this challenge I think I could have been ambushed by one of those horder/ clean sweep shows!!
Nantini- confession...I have not finished paper either. I just ran out of cropper hoppers, so 2 inches are sitting and winking at my inner horder knowing that they are still out there.
Crisann-congrats on the guest free home! We've missed you... |

Okey-Doke! I have more time tonight. Here's how I do mine.
scraps
Although it doesn't look like I have a lot, I do use them regularly. And they grow and diminish from time to time, depending on how I'm scrapping.

I sorted my black adn white scrap and they are in a different spot than all the others now. I use them ALL the time, to the point I don't have any more! Woo hoo. The others, I'm not as good about, but I am doing better. |

I used up a bunch of my smallest scraps awhile ago by sorting them by color families and then glueing them together to make striped borders. It took awhile, but they look cool and I'll be able to use them on any page with similar color papers.

I like to use scraps. Long strips of solid colors make good journaling strips, and smaller pieces can be punched. My dd (7) likes to scrap, and she loves it when I give her a pile of scraps and some punches!
I have been putting my bigger scraps in the dividers between the paper colors in my cropper hopper vertical holders. That works great when it's time to use them, but I'm finding that I didn't take time to file them very often - especially small ones, and I always have little scraps floating around everywhere.
So I'm going to try some sort of interim storage - a place to quickly stash them until I can do other things with them, like filing by color or punching, etc. I'm thinking either the hanging file box, and keeping it without it's lid right under my table so it's easy to scoop things into, or a set of sterilite drawers under my table. Not sure which one would be easier to quickly toss scraps into, so I'm going to try them both this week.

Well, I have decided to cal anything that is less than 12x12 a scrap...even if there is only a little corner out of it...and even if it came that way. I have a little bit of 81/2 x 11 and 8 x 8. I don't want to put that in with my 12 x 12 because then I find it when I'm looking for 12 x 12 and am just disappointed that it's not big enough. And let's be honest, it wouldn't fit anyway.
So, I finished my paper tonight by reclassifying my smaller stuff. Now I have to figure out how I want to store my scraps. I'm thinking an expandable file, although I'm still a little iffy on that because I find those kind of hard to look through. Maybe I'll toss them in a bin... I'll sleep on it.

okay... quick catch up post...
Clean Slate.
See, this color isn't too bad on it's own. lol... Vacumned. Dusted. Started putting furniture back in there. For now, just the black/silver stuff, atleast until I can figure out what I really want, longterm.
Next, carried all of my cropper hoppers/storage units upstairs. Apparently, you have to put cropper hoppers together. That's news to me.
I've pretty much made it through all the scraps already. The 12x12 paper, on the other hand... I've already realized there're many more than 1200 sheets, so... looks like I'm going to be buying more cropper hoppers.

I am quite proud of myself today. I went to JoAnn's while DH was shopping for shoes.
I looked intently at all of the scrap aisles (which almost every item was on sale I might add) and after my shopping I walked out of the store without buying one item. I realized that everything that I looked at today was something that i had at home already and I did not need. All I kept thinking was where or where am I going to put one more thing in my room!
Just wanted to share. I am glad that I joined this challenge if not for any other reason but this.
And i finished putting away my scarps too! |

Way to go, Julie!
Question of the Week: Do you actually use your scraps?
well.... no, not really....
I have two accordion files filled with patterned paper and cardstock. I must confess to the fact that I NEVER have opened those to use the scraps. I've only opened them to put more scraps in...
I guess that means I should get rid of those!
I've had the most success with using scraps if I keep them with the other papers in the same line (which is how I store my paper). When I go to the line to do a layout, I find the scraps. If the scraps are too small, I might slap together a simple card or tag to use them up. |

Go Julie, go Julie (need a cheering smilie here lol)
And all of the others: you also rock! I hear a lot of promising news here! We all rock!!!!
For me, I have decided too that all other papers than 12x12 is going to be filed as scraps. And I like to do that by colour. This are mostly solid coloured papers, so that won't be the biggest problem. The storing method that is the big issue here, but I'm working on it. Someone mentioned they had a smal container they put all scrap in and then have a dat every month to clean that container out and file all the scraps into their right place. Like that idea very much, so I will try that.
Back to my scraps for now...
