this is going to be HARD!

so, embellishments don't include alphas, stickers, rub-ons, ink, pain, glitter, ribbon, etc. everything else included!!

ETA: My embellishments are literally all over the place, but at least in the same room where they belong! ALL OVER!

Here is my Embellishments (Round 2) . It was hard, but doable. This week I get to stock up the expedit that my DH got me from Ikea yesterday ( here ).
I guess that means that embellishments might be a challenge this week afterall!

Hey Girls! How is everyone today? Ready for Halloween??

I have actually spent most of the morning in my scrap area. Ditched the kids with DH and said "i got stuff to do", LOL!

question of the week: what embellishments can you not live without?

HA! This is a loaded question isn't it? I can't live without most of them. I love ribbon and buttons MOST though, I think. Followed close by chipboard.

checklist of things to do during week 9 -

1. read the week 9 post on wookiemouse's blog. DONE
2. answer the question of the week on this thread. DONE
3. organize your embelishments. DONE - But only because I recently converted ALL of my embellishments to a color organization system. I'll post again once I've updated my poor poor blog,.

question of the week: what embellishments can you not live without?
None -love all of them and I do eventually use them

checklist of things to do during week 9 -

1. read the week 9 post on wookiemouse's blog. - yes and green with envy again!
2. answer the question of the week on this thread. see above
3. organize your embelishments. - Mostly they are organized. It just doesn't look that way (watch the latest version of Yours Mine and Ours and look for her studio in the lighthouse). They are organized by item and then by color. I have one of those multidrawer units that my husband would use to store screws and nails in only I have brads, snaps, tiny buttons and other metallic objects in there. I have two drawer sets from Ikea (like the ones Jennifer McGuire has) on my desk and I have fibers in those. On the back wall I have some sheet metal that DH put up and I have magnetic containers with larger brads and snaps. I also have some packages clipped on magnetic clips. Buttons are in large metal buckets from the dollar rack at Target and are sorted by color. I think I am ok (could be improved on) for this week so will keep working on photos which continue to lie in my dining room
Thanksgiving is just around the corner so I have to get that cleaned up!

Hope everything is OK with your Crisann!

question of the week: what embellishments can you not live without?
Tough question. Of the stuff we're organizing this week, I'd have to say bling (strange perhaps for a momma of 3 boys). Overall, probably die cuts. Love those things - so versatile!

checklist of things to do during week 9 -

1. read the week 9 post on wookiemouse's blog. DONE
2. answer the question of the week on this thread. DONE
3. organize your embelishments. Added to my list of things to do!

LydiaInk-That's so funny! Maybe it is beacause you have boys that bling becomes so important!

Lovesribbons- I HAVE to se pics of your space! It seems fabulous!

ScrappnBee- He is a great DH, just don't tell him I said that. He'll get a nice big puffed up head and won't be able to get out the door, LOL!
Yes he gets "handing out candy duty" with my teenager. I get the other three kids and "bringing candy home", .

LydiaInk- I also have a strange love for bling and I also have all boys. It's a good thing they've no idea what I'm doing to their pages, LOL!

I'm not looking forward to this week!
The only embellishments I have in any way sorted are my brads/eyelets - they are in a cropper hopper embellishmnet case & it works well for me.
I need help with everything else - so please share ideas of how you store everything else & help me step by step through this week!!

I'm leaving "bling" till week 16 when we do glitter as I store it with my glitter/stickles - if it's sparkly it's the same thing to me!

Oh, my "can't live without" is definitely brads!

Most embellies are sorted by color in their own drawers, I just need to work on brads and eyelets. Oh, and **bling**, which I cannot do without. I keep stocking up even though I have enough to bling up my whole room! Need to figure out how to store them, some are in sheets and some are in boxes.

ok, I'm going to list the types of embellishments we need to be sure to consider. (If you do organize by type, not solely by color!) Most if this is taken from Wookiemouse's blog. Please add to this list, so that I/we don't overlook anything!
  • brads
  • eyelets
  • flowers
  • buttons
  • Dew drops/Skittles -- what are these? "dew drops" to me are those little ink pads, like "cats eyes," so I must be way off!
  • bling
  • photo corners
  • acrylic pieces
  • frame things for photos or phrases (maybe these go with photo corners...........)
  • metals (besides brads, eyelets!)
  • what else??????
  • where do we do the newer journaling spots, "just the edge" & lots of other stuff that I can't even think of right now????
  • ETA: feathers

Please add to this list, so that I/we don't overlook anything!

ScrappnBee - no it is not that good - I am just aiming for that look but it is a mess. Have you watched Jennifer McGuire's video on her room? OMGosh to die for!!!

Lydia-was working on lo for my son's album - his baby pictures and remembered that I promised NOT to make them too girly. UGH so his birth pictures are in a pale aqua blue accented with brown and cream. Not what I wanted....but I promised. I did sneak in a red heart! So sad though not to put flowers or anything on it. But I do have two girls

ScrappinJudy - "Is chipboard in this week?" I panicked when I saw that because if it was I was in deep trouble or I will be in week 19. I feel another vacation coming........perhaps I should use some chipboard on DS's layouts - how much can I use in three weeks before the girlfriend arrives and work full time and defend my thesis UGH

QOTW--The embellishments I couldn't live without are flowers and buttons. Oh, and probably brads.

Checklist-
1. Read Wookiemouse's blog-Done
2. Answer the question of the week-Done
3. Organize embellishments-Will do

ScrappinJudy-I found some packages of feathers in my stash so you might want to add them to your list. I also found some stickpins but you could include them in bling.

I'm feeling very overwhelmed with the amount of embellishments I have. I seriously shouldn't ever go scrap shopping again!

I'm going to M's tomorrow to find some small containers for my buttons. I think that's a doable place to start.

QOTW: what embellishments can you not live without?
I would say brads.

checklist of things to do during week 9 -

1. read the week 9 post on wookiemouse's blog. - DONE
2. answer the question of the week on this thread. - DONE
3. organize your embelishments. - IN PROGRESS...

My brads and eyelets are sorted by color in these
sortables by making memories.

My buttons are mostly SU and they are stored in their original SU container like this one.

I have no Primas, no dew drops, and no rhinestones. Sad, I know.

I'm sure I have some misc items. I have one tote bag that I take to crops that has all kinds of stuff in it that I've picked up on crops and retreats.

My goals this week are to go through the bag of stuff and take care of all the embellishments in there and finish up organizing projects from last week.

Just thought I would share someone's blog with glitter storage that is interesting. I only use Stickles....but for those of you with loose glitter...enjoy the idea.

Yay!!! A catch up week for me. Embellishments are done (round 2) I still like my storage for these. So this week I will be putting my new paper away and my new stamps (15 sets including new stamp of the month sets). I think I will scan in 1 set of negatives this week, that's the only way they are going to get done. I think I will wait until I get a external hard drive before I do my digital photos. If I only scan in one set of negatives then I can print a thumbnail sheet and copy it to a disk right aways other than scanning them all, getting overwhelmed and then giving up altogether.

QOTW: Flowers, flowers, flowers

brads, buttons and hardware

ribbons

I looked to see if I had pics of my flower storage but I guess not. I keep them in SU plastic cases, stored by color and size, that the stamps came in and keep them in the bottom drawer of my stamping and cutting station. I just ordered a huge supply of mini roses from Thailand that I will have to organize yet (approx 700- 1000)

ScrappinJudy - thanks for the list! It will help me focus in the tiny bits of time I get to work at this.

*brads - I'm good here, except for the 'fancy' ones
*eyelets - good
*flowers - what I have (drawers) works OK, but would like them somewhere visible - I'd like to have them in jars by colour, I think
*buttons - are in old jam jars sorted by colour. Love it!
*Dew drops/Skittles -- These are kinda like plastic jewels, but without the bling. Don't have much of this, I'll store them with my loose jewels/bling
*bling - Needs work
*photo corners - Don't have many. Make them as I need them, mostly
*acrylic pieces - Needs work
*metals (besides brads, eyelets!) - Needs work
*what else??????
*where do we do the newer journaling spots, "just the edge" & lots of other stuff that I can't even think of right now????
I was going to do journalling spots with die cuts, since I use them similarly.
'Just the edge' - I have too many of these. Not sure how to store them.

What one group of embellishments are you definately going to tackle if nothing else? For me its brads (and that's no small feat!)

Jen - you take your SU stamps out of the original storage container??? What do you do with the stamp sets??? I have thought of separating mine especially to get the sentiments out but worried about everything getting disorganized!

BiscuitScraps - that is sooo cute! Love it!

ScrappnBee- DD old enough not to make a mess with it - not happening! If my 20 yo DD found my glitter there would be a gorgeous finished project with a mess that NO Ranger Craft mat could prevent. Some girls just like to make messes and ok and so do their mothers

No progress today - my dd stayed home from school with a fever and sore throat . She had plans to go roller skating tonight and when she told me that she didn't want to go, I knew she wasn't feeling well. She will likely be home tomorrow as well.

As for waiting for DD to get old enough to not make a mess - I don't think this is possible for some of them! For my dd, I think that is totally part of the process for her. She is so creative (much more than me) and always leaves a mess of scraps, glue, paper, ribbon, glitter in the wake of any project she does.

I hope that dd perks up tomorrow and maybe she can help me sort my dreaded tote of stuff! She may even snag some it. Hey - that's less that I'll have to organize!

Weaser - Hope your DD feels better soon. Having sick kids is NO fun!!

Jen - The thought of taking my SU stamps out of their clamshell boxes makes me break out in hives, LOL! How do you store yours? Do you break them up?? Or just have a better way to store them? Oh wait, are you going to make us all wait until stamp week to show us?? LOL!

And I have to confess to swiping all of the "100 Grand" candy bars from my kids, LOL! Those things are SO good. I'm just glad they didn't get that many or I'd have to go buy new jeans, .

I'm hoping this will be another "catch-up" week for me. Most of my embellishments are contained pretty well; some could use a little more work, but they're OK for me now. I'll try to post a couple of photos at the end of this post (you know I don't always have good luck with that!)

crisann, hope you're doing OK and you have those bookcases where you need them now!

ScrappnBee, Have fun filling up your new Expedit; it's bound to solve all of your organizing needs! (Wish we had an IKEA close to us.) And your flying pig card was really cute.

LoveRibbons, I'll be with you trying to catch up this week; I still have a few ideas to go and ... yes, still photos...

scrappinJudy, thanks for the list; it made me realize that I had overlooked a few things that I'll need to look at (OK, look FOR).

scrappin usmc, I didn't buy any 100Grand bars for trick or treat this year since I would've eaten them all. It's bad enuff that I've been digging out the minature Milky Way bars.

weaser, I hope your daughter is feeling better by now.

Weaser-how goes the tote of stuff...and your DD?

UK Heli- if you need a hand held, I am here! ** (<-pom poms) What is the first embellie you want/need to organize? Ignore the rest. They can wait until later!

Daisymarie-I know you feel overwhelmed. What are you starting with?

Oh, and did not win anything on my glee club challenge...oh well. Off to troll the internet for new inspiration for my weekly layouts! (anything to igore those brads!)

Maria - can I come play in your room? Soo nice and organized!

Mel - too funny about breaking out in hives if you separated your SU sets. It is very nerve wracking to think about. I wonder if Wookie's blog suggests that in stamp week???

Weaser - So how is she? Was she well enough to sort?

Luv2LittleBOys- Brads are one of my favs and I think I have a few too many

I'm jumping into this challenge a few weeks late. I finished up paper yesterday, and scraps will be done once I buy another crpper hopper. Weeks 6-8 are being put off for now, because today I decided to do the clean slate approach and am packing everything into categories. It's becoming much more time-consuming than I imagined! (Which is why I'm now on the computer! LOL)

QOTW: probably brads and flowers

I already have my brads, eyelets, buttons and other small embellies organized by color and type in those clear plastic tool cases from Lowe's. I think I'm going to make color drawers for everything else.

I'm torn on the flowers though - whether to bag them up and put them in the appropriate color drawer, or to display them in one big glass container. I don't have a lot, and I think it would be pretty to have them mixed. But for those that put multiple colors of flowers in one container, is it hard to then find, say 3 matching blue ones?

I'm loving reading everyone else's responses - lots of great ideas!

I have a little bit of everything going on ...

I have brads in a little box (BG and other fancy brads), buttons are in an old spice rack, other small coloured "bits" are in three small bead organizers (warms, cools and neutrals).

Everything else is separated into IRIS cases by colour.

Christmas and Hallowe'en/Fall are in spearate baskets.

I hope to get some pictures up by the weekend.

DD is feeling much better today and will go to school tomorrow. Thanks for asking about her. We didn't do any sorting today as she wanted to play computer games instead. Oh well. As soon as I finish this post, I'm going to get the bag o' stuff and start sorting while we watch the rest of Biggest Loser.

Maria - love all your jars! One day when I get the custom cabinets I want, I'm going to get these jars. Right now I'm going to stick to my containers.

Jen - "The thought of taking my SU stamps out of their clamshell boxes makes me break out in hives" - Ditto on this! Although I really like your storage use of them. It seems like a few years ago SU sold just the cases. I know I have some that I use to store cards and photos to be scrapped. I don't know if they still do.

TexasJen - welcome to the challenge. Looks like you've got a good start on it.

ScrappinBee - I love your glee club los. Can't wait to see your Gremlins lo. We just recorded that and I watched it with my oldest ds.

Off to get that bag!

ETA - I had to fix the typos in this post. I must have been really tired when I was typing this.

Leisa - GO VOLS!

1. read the week 9 post on wookiemouse's blog. check!
2. answer the question of the week on this thread.
3. organize your embelishments. DONE

I have twelve categories for my scrapbook embellishments and stickers. They are Animals/Pets, Seasons, Baby, Celebrations (birthday, etc.), Events, Flora/Fauna (flowers, trees, bushes, leaves), Food, Holidays, Quotes, School/Sports/Youth, Travel, Shapes. These twelve categories work for me for my diecuts, my stickers, and some for my paper.

OK, I decided I won't make you wait for stamp week and tell you what I have been doing with my stamps. I seperate them into categories because I had too many to remember when stamping that if I wanted a certain flower stamp from a certain set I didn't know which one it was from, so now flower stamps are all together, greetings are together, vintage, masculine, swirls, borders, frames, nature, animals, scenery, misc, kids, alphas, and Christmas are stored seperately because that is how I stamp. I even took apart my acrylic ones. One thing I plan to do this round when I do my cataloging is to catalog the stamps seperately and as they came in their original set (thank goodness there are lots of pictures on the net). I'm also planning to scan or find a picture of my new sets right away so I can keep my catalog up to date.

I bought some small containers at M's yesterday and worked on organizing my buttons last night. M's has all scrapbook storage on sale this week 40% off.

I found some packages of novelty buttons in my drawer. I'm keeping them for now, but might put them in the next LSS garage sale.

Ok, let's tackle this one embellishment at a time!
Anyone up for helping me with flowers?
I have a total mix - quite a few primas in the milk bottles, some in the smaller prima bottles & then a tin full of random stuff ...
I think I need to get them sorted by colour, but what to store them in?

done: brads & eyelets
To do: flowers, buttons (some are sorted, most aren't!), metal "stuff" & those random bits & bobs that don't fit anywhere else!

plastic jewels/dew drops are with bling & being dealt with when we do glitter etc as I store them together

UK_Heli - I leave my prima flowers in the original container because I love the containers. Looking at how pretty they are makes me feel creative. But I admit having them sorted by color would make life easier but not as pretty.

Daisymarie - I am not going to Michael's for 40% off organizing containers - nope am under control this week.....

Artist-Ju (Jen) Do you have stamps besides SU? If so, are you then mixing SU stamps with other brands I thought leaving them in the box and separate from the rest of the stamp world was a law Jennifer Mcguire or Nichol Mcgouirk do???

Crisann - how are you?????

As for me today - come home early with a cold. I am on the couch and the pictures are in the dining room...and my undone lo is in my scrap room

ScrappnBee and LoveRibbons, Thank you, but my room is so NOT organized! You notice I didn't show a picture of my work table or the pile of stuff laying in the floor. But I'm hoping that it will all look better by week 20 or so.

Kris74, Your spice rack sounds like just the thing for storage and I'll bet it's pretty too.

weaser, Thank you. A lot of my jars are the MakingMemories plastic ones (can't trust myself with glass) and quite a few are empty Target nut/snack mix containers. Glad your daughter is feeling better; I guess those computer games can be good medicine.

Pampered Princess, It sounds like you have your stash divided into very workable categories. I've tried to do that with my stickers, but they need some love and attention!

artist-ju, Your stamps are going to be archived! You can't go wrong with all that cross-referencing.

Hope everyone is getting lots done. I'm going to try to work some more on mine tonite after supper. Maria

here is my flower storage and yes I do mix my stamps completely up, reasons being 1. I'm not a SU demonstrator so I don't need to advertise them. 2. I probably will never sell them so I don't need to keep them together and 3. I don't want to look through a hundred sets(figure of speech)to find the leaf stamp I'm looking for. this system works for me quite well. Sorry the pics are a bit blurry (think I drank too much coffee today). The flowers that aren't sorted by color are the ones that I keep by type ie; fancy, super large, glittered or tiny roses etc.

Hope you get better soon LoveRibbons

OK Ladies,
Here is my embellishment storage. This is an older blogpost but it will have to do for now.
Embellishment storage - Color bins
The concept is the same, i've just moved the shelves around and adjusted them a bit. I have a new camera coming on Friday...hopefully I'll be able to test it out and take some newer photos!
The only items in my colors bins are consumables. I do not keep inks, markers, or any kind of tool in there.

And for those that can seperate your stamps, you are my hero! I just Can't. Do. It!! LOL! And my SU stamps are so stuckup they have their own drawers...they can't mingle with the "others", BAHAHAHA!

Sorry, not very chatty over here. Let's just chalk it up to PMS and the Hallowe'en overdose isn't helping

Hope everyone who's not feeling well gets better soon

Mel - I'm curious how big those bins of yours are?? I love how they're open as opposed to my closed IRIS cases, but not sure I can fit something like your idea into my space.

alright, i probably should rejoin the human race, right? how long's it been... like a week?

without getting into too much detail - i've been "stomach miserable" and feeling sorry for myself - and getting myself into trouble at work and... well, you get the idea. i'm not exactly a coper when i'm in pain. i got into a screaming match w/ one of our yard managers the other day and we both got a half hour lecture for that one. i'm still not apologizing, though, b/c i didn't do anything wrong. if people would just do their jobs... but that's a vent for another day...

i'm *supposed* to be the calm/rational one. sometimes, i get tired of it - really, i do... i get sick of being the responsible one all the time. i was anything but yesterday, so i took a "mental health day" - i figured if i stayed, i'd just get myself into even more trouble.

oh, s/o was actually being *nice* last night. i think even he realizes, atleast at this point, how miserable i've been. i can deal w/ alot, trust me. i do well to a certain point, but the combination of mr. know-it-all (s/o), the stress at work (remember, s/o works there now too and i'm not the only one who has trouble getting along w/ that boy), and all the "stomach miserable" lately kind of just set me off, so...

there you have it, long story short...

my bookcases? um, yea... still where they were. haven't even gotten back to my studio yet... and i have a sink-full of dishes and something like three loads of laundry to put away, so...

Kris74 - The bins themselves are 14 3/4" (long) by 10 1/2" (wide) and 5" high. I bought them at Target. They needed to be long enough to fit packages of thickers in them.
And the "cubbies" (interior) are 11X11X11 1/2. The bins hang over the edge of the shelves by a few inches. Here are the shelves from Target Shelf cubbies Although mine are white.

Crisann - Hope you get to feeling better soon!!!! When items compound upon you, its hard to muddle thru!

Crisann - sorry you're having such a tough week. Sometimes things just pile up and you just can't take any more. Hope you feel better and your shelves get moved!

Too bad we can't have a 2peas field trip to PA to move those bookshelves for you - hey this would be a good distraction for memorabilia week. You'd have to wait until after Christmas, but at least it would get done!

LoveRibbons - hope you feel better too! Seems to be a lot of stuff going around.

DD is feeling much better and happy to go to school today. Now my oldest ds is getting what she had (with no fever), but he is toughing it out and going to school because he does not want to miss his last football game of the season tomorrow night.

And I am SO excited - I am actually done with this week's challenge. DD and I emptied the bag of stuff last night and sorted by embellishment type. I ended up with a big pile of stickers, a small pile of chipboard - to be dealt with later!- a few die cuts that I filed in my big binder type thingy and another small pile of embellishments that fall into this week. And while we sorted, I also purged items to donate.

Here are some pictures of the process. Since I scrap on the go, the box in pic#3 is then stored in my big tote on wheels.

And I discovered that I actually do have flowers - only 3, but hey a girl's gotta start somewhere - and one partially used sheet of rhinestones.

UK_Heli - Sorry I'm no help with the flowers - 3 flowers just don't take much to sort, organize and store!

Leisa - GO VOLS!

Crisann--Glad to have you back. Hope you are feeling better and things are going better for you at work.

I have my embellishments somewhat organized but I'm still working on making the drawers in my cubes neater. I'm stopping at Walmart after school to see if I can find some small drawer organizers.

UK Heli- Flowers are just beginning to creep into my workd of addiction, so I don't have too many. However, I do have them still in their pretty jars sorted by color, and the bigger ones that would get all crumpled in ziptop sandwich bags. That would be my suggestion, ziptop bags in a container to corral the big ones...

I love everyones' links to their storage solutions! It really helps to visualize the storage ideas! (and weaser-love the cat!) Am busy sorting brads...one tiny piece at a time.

Crisann-Vent all you want! We can take it (and then give you a cyber hug back!).

TexasJen-Welcome! Glad to have you with us!!

Estheryee-You are SO creative! I would/ could never make boxes like them...but they are cool!

Artist-ju- You are my hero too! Could never seperate my sets...but probably should...
