Ugh. This is a big one for me, and I probably won't be able to get to it this week so will play catch-up after the semester is over.

QOTW: I probably scrap about 1% of the photos I take, now that I have a digital camera! I take a ton of pictures, and I only tend to scrap really good photos. Some exceptions, but usually the best ones.

For organization goals: I have to organize both digital and "real" pictures. Here's a list of my goals, in no particular order at this point.

1. Move pictures out of Cropper Hopper and photo boxes into photo albums. In that process, the pictures that I want to scrap will be on the top of pictures in each sleeve.

2. Move pictures out of old photo albums (mine from high school and my parents') with magnetic pages into regular photo albums. Scan any that I want to make sure that I have copies of.

3. Back up any digital photos that aren't currently backed up on CD.

4. Organize digital photos in iPhoto albums with names (currently mostly by date).

Whew... Good thing summer is coming!

Looking at the amount of photos I have gathered so far has me hearing the theme song to MISSION IMPOSSIBLE

My goal for this week are to
1.finally find all photos
2.determine my categories for sorting
3.determine how I will store photos

QOTW: I take way too many photos. I probably will scrap about 3% of the photos I take.

QOTW: what percentage of the photos you take do you think you actually scrapbook? Hmmm. That's a good question. I'd say maybe 50%.

As far as printed photos go - I'm running and hiding my head in the sand on that island. Anyone care to join me?

My digital photos (starting in 2004) are a bit more organized and they are backed up on CD. I do need to do another backup of the last part of 2010 and the photos I've taken this year. I am in the process of moving my photos off my home computer onto an external hard drive to free up space on my computer.

Gina and Ann - good for both of you for being brave and facing your photos with a plan. I just have too many in too many places and it just totally overwhelms me.

Leisa - GO VOLS!

Completed 2011: cards - 16; los - 70
Completed 2012: cards - 26; los - 36
Completed 2013: cards - 13; los - 20

With the exception of vacation photos, I tend to scrapbook about 20% of the photos I take. That being said, I need to become more aware of what photos I have...enter Library of Memories.

I've been very diligent in scrapbooking things from this year, so I hope to keep that up, even though right now I have some 800 photos from my recent trip to DisneyWorld. Of those 800 photos, I'm pretty sure that at least 500 will be printed and go into my vacation album.

I need to get some discs and backup the photos on my laptop. The computer has been acting weird, so I need to do this ASAP. It needs to go back to the shop this month anyways.

I've rounded up all the photos I've previously had printed, and I am currently trying to make sense of it all. This may take more than one week to accomplish, so along with paper week, photo week, will be a continuing process.

Hope everyone else is doing well with the challenge. I'm off to see what LOAD is all about this month...I'm hoping to get lots accomplished. Wish me well! I'm going to do LOAD and May Flaum's class at BPC, as well. Fun times

I scrap all my photos. I don't do a separate photo album and I don't do copies. Of course, I'm way behind so they aren't all scrapped yet. Now that we do a lot of digital picture taking - I try and go through and only keep the ones I'd want to scrap and delete the other pics.

I need to finish organizing my digi pics and get them burned to CD. My tons of printed pics (just about all film) are in need of organizing again but not sure when I'll get around to that. I have a system - it's more work but I prefer to scrap this way. Also make it easier to see what pics are coming up since I'm a chrono scrapper.

I have several photo albums I put the pics in. I work from them when I scrap. The rest of the photos get organized in photo boxes. When the albums are empty, I will fill them again with photos from the boxes. Now I have several envelopes of pictures that need sorting into boxes still!

I'm pretty good in this area. My husband is the keeper of the digital photos... he has them organized on the computer by month. He is very good about taking his and my camera at the end of the month and moving the photos over from camera to computer. Then he backs them up in about 2 or 3 other spots.

I have old photos from the old magnetic photo albums stored by year in new sleeved photo albums I got my Pioneer.

Photos he printed for me that I didn't use, ones given to me by others, loose for some reason photos are grouped by category sort of like Stacy Julian's in her LOM in a Creative Memories box.

QOTD: I'd say about 1/2. I guess like everyone with digital we take way too many, particularly when on vacation. Unfortunately my husband keeps every one of them, even the crappy/out of focus/non-smiling ones... why, I do not know but he does.

Keep organizing, everyone

Hi,

crisann - I am taking May with May. Sorry your name is not working but keyboard is mis-behaving!

QOTW - Ha I do not know! We had 1160 photos from three cameras from our trip to London. I had 179 printed. Probably about 50 of those will get put on scrapbook pages so 4.3%. The rest will go in 4x6 photo divider page protectors in the album.

Organization -digital is under control and backed up in two places. Old fashioned photos from 1983 to 1999 well....sitting in the dining room partially organized from the last round. I am making progress though. Will continue to work on it this week - I am up to 1989 but I do find photos from 1995 in 1989 box because way back when my youngest DD got into the pictures and messed them all up!

QOTW: what percentage of the photos you take do you think you actually scrapbook?

I think I scrap about 50-75% of the photos I take. I know that sounds like a lot, but I really try to take pix I know I will scrap. I do take extra pix that I know won't be scrappped, but occasionally those silly pix will make their way into my albums as well.

I don't have many pictures stored on my computer. Whenever I need to empty my memory card from my camera, I just put all of the pix on a CD and make a list of what is on the CD. So when I need those specific pix, I know which CD to use. Oh, I do have some pictures stored on an external hard drive.

My photos that are printed out and ready to be scrapped are in a photo box divided by theme. There are a LOT of those pictures, because I used to print out just about every picture I took. I do tend to weed out pictures as I scrap, so this is not a big deal to me.

I guess I now need to learn how to make new folders to store my pictures that are on my computer. So, I am off to do that.

Y'all have a great week and happy organizing!

QOTW: I scrap probably less than 1% of the photos "we" take! I say "we" because DH does most of the photography, and now that DD got a really nice camera for graduation she does a lot, too. And I've been scrapping professional photos from sports and dance for the past year or so, trying to get the kids' "activities" albums up to date. I only print the ones I'm fairly sure I'll use in a LO.

I already have all of my pre-digi pics organized by year, but only about half of them are in albums. So that will be one project for this week. I may not get it done, though, since I'm on a deadline and need to scrap like a fiend to get finished! Digi pics are pretty organized by date in iPhoto. I do want to go through them and make a folder of ones to print and ones to put in DD's graduation slideshow. That DOES need to get done in the next week or so...I don't want to stress about it at the end of the month!

On a side note...I'm a little blue this morning. I'm sending DD's graduation announcements today. I'll soon be an empty nester!

Photo week already?

Skipped photo week during Round 2 and 3 ... three stikes and I'm out

I haven't even transferred over our photos from the old computer since November

I'm signing-up for Staci Julian's Finding Photo Freedom class that starts in June. Here's hoping her class will be that "turning point" motivator to get my butt in gear.

Anyone else taking FPF?

Photos, so soon??? I always expect this to be later for some reason, I think I need to come up with a strategy this week for getting all my photos loaded to digital format.

QOTW: 80% of digital get scrapped ( I actually don't keep a lot of the photos I take digitally and only keep the best). 10% so far of my developed photos

Photos...*groan*.
I think I'm heading to that island this week.
My photos are probably as organized as they ever will be. I'm not going to put all of the printed ones in albums because it would take way too much time and money. They are currently in photo boxes (7 or 8 of them). They are sorted by month and year. Then when I went digital, they became sorted by year.
My digital ones are organized by month and year on an external harddrive. I keep about 12 months on my actual computer. I need to print off two months worth and then I'm caught up on printing them. Scrapping is a whole 'nuther story, LOL!
I probably scrap 80 percent of what I print. But I only print maybe 20-30% of what I take. They are digital so its not like I'm wasting anything but digital memory.
Cristi - Becky Fleck are the Page Maps books. She has two of them. I just ordered a couple Allison Davis books too! In hopes that I will actually be able to accomplish something other than pushing paper around on my desk.

Okay, the theme song for photo week (MISSION IMPOSSIBLE) has gone down in volume in my head from a ten to 9.5

Why? Because I figured what do with my 5x7 and 8x10. They are going to be housed in the Generation paper keeper. Since my papers have move to my jetmax cubes I have a nice empty one for large photos.

Now back to photo hunting.

PHOTOS-

I can't give an actual percentage, because I take a lot of photos sometimes of the same picture, trying for the ultimate photo. Granted, I am not very good at photos, so I take lots trying to compensate I guess. Anyway, I got my SLR in Sept '06, and I have just over 10,000 photo clicks, so that is 56 months, which comes up to roughly 196.5 photos per month. I usually print about 1200-1500 photos a year. Of those, I would say about 10% don't get scrapbooked for whatever reason... usually because I have to narrow them down to a reasonable number for the LO. I am going to start compiling lots more collages to use for big events though. No wonder I am so behind on my scrapbooking!

For photo storage, I use a plastic sterilite type photo storage box, and I have two years to a box, alternating years, so when one is emptied, I have a spot for new pictures. I think I am going to have to get a new box though, my years are filling up faster than my scrapbooking. When I get them back from the printer, I put them into an envelope for every month written on the outside with the date/event/# of LO's for those photos/ and which album it is for.

I also have another cropper hopper style box, the big square one, that has all of my one time special event photos that need to be scrapped, like a trip to Norway, my Wedding Reception, etc.

I don't have all of my heritage photos sorted at all yet. They are just in my hope chest waiting for some inspiration. I know it will be a long time until I get to them, so I haven't done anything with them as far as organization, and as much as I would like to, it probably won't happen right now. ( I have 4 mos from this year, and most of last year to go through and organize like said above.) But if there are any good ideas out there for sharing how to store misc size photos from wallet size to 8x10 I would love to know for all of those heritage photos.

Happy Organizing!

Hi everyone!

QOTW: I'd guess that I scrap about 20% of what I take, but that's a rather random guess.

I probably have more photo organizing to do than I realize. I've made progress on tagging my photos since the last round and been much better about tagging them when I upload. I'm still not sure what to do with the 5x7's that I love to print. I wish they could live with my 4x6's somehow.

Life is crazy lately. Lots of work to do on the house and the boys seem to be jumping out of their skins for some reason.

Lisa - I'm doing LOAD, too. Don't really expect more than 50%, but I'll do my best. I love Laine's prompts and the Back to Basics theme this time. Thinking of signing up for May in May as well, but keep feeling overwhelmed with stuff to read and think about, that I might skip it. Then I'll feel like I'm missing something. Love her classes.

Well, i wasn't really ready to work on photos. lol I'm still in paper and scrap which I'm hoping to finish either today or tomorrow.

I'm currently working on my pictures on computer by going thur each folders-deleting any that are out of focus, blur, etc, then group all pictures in monthly folder then within that folders specfic events like Apirl 2011-Easter, emergency room, just random pictures etc. then will move to need to be print folder, then will work backward

then will upload all pictures to shutterfly when there are specials. I didn't do one last month bc of budget

then photos that are already prints will go thur and sorts by date and events. I also plan to cut out file dividers from my cricut to put specific album like Amber's pregency to birth, Amber's toddler year (monthly pictures), Caleb's pregency to birth, his toddler years, etc.

then I will have separate box for yearly album that doesn't go into amber or caleb's album.

I figure this will be on going project for month as I liek to do them in section. while the computer I can do while I'm surfing online lol

looking forward to everyone's progress..

Hey all!
Sorry to have been MIA so long! Life as Lady of the Shoe has meant negligable computer time! SIL is at swim lessons w the toddler, and the baby just fell asleep, so, I figured that I'd pea a little before getting to my blog!

I print/ scrap 1-3% of pics as digital makes it easy to take hundreds more than necessary just to get that one shot! Having a terabite external hard drive for storage helps too! LOL!

Photos . I'm scared to look into this one . . . maybe tomorrow.

Cristi - No, I paused DYL to do FYW (which was a really good class!) I packed my binder, otherwise I'd tell you what week I stopped on. I'll probably start up again in Aug or Sept. Shall I let you know when I do?

I'll catch up later! I'm spending too much time on pinterest these last few days.

Cristi, it does make me a feel a little better, LOL!

I think I may need to change from a "sitting" desk area to a standing one. I seem to be able to grab more quick little bits of time to scrap instead of a constant hours at a time thing.
SO, that will cause some chaos in my scrap area soon. If I ever get up enough energy to do it, !

Hope you all are happily organizing photos!!

Finally getting around to posting about this. I'm still looking for some good way to store my small amount of 6x6 papers. Can't see them in the files that house the bigger papers. If anyone has an idea, please let me know!

But this is supposed to be about photos. Well, I'm not completely overrun with photos...yet. Most of the pics I need to organize are of the grand-niece, who's only 2. I'm organizing by putting the pictures I'm not going to scrap into a WRMK 12x12 photo album and doing some easy scrapping with them by adding in some papers and titles, etc. I love this idea so much!

Those that are scheduled for scrapping are going into my new "Idea Book" folder that I made with my BIA. I put the pics together with a tag that I write my idea for the page on and viola! It's all done until I have time to scrap!

Good morning, everyone.

Well, this is a tough project beecause I wasn't sure how I wanted to do. Currently, I store my photos in creative memories small photo box. I have three of them. Since they are no longer available, I need to think of another options. I use two photo boxes that i ahve gotten at Walmart. I'm not really love it. so I'm trying to decide if I want to use the large one from cm or use a different system. I also may try using the binder type for storing pictures that i want to scrap. I figure this will be an ongoing project. right now, I have my kids' photos here at house but rest of my pictures before kids are at my parents' house which i have to get and sort.

the pictures on computer I am working on present and working backward to sort, edit and delete then will file them monthly, event, then into yearly folder then will be tranfer to to be print folder. I will print them once month to shutterfly. then that folder will be back up to flashdrive for safe keeping. While I'm working on this throughout several weeks I will be working on other weeks.

I must be the odd ball out because I already have my photos organized. But that's only because I've been vigilant with my photos for years, being a former professional photographer.Don't ask me about my rubber stamps organization though

For more than 20 years I've kept my printed 4x6 photos in archival shoe boxes from Exposures. These do cost more than the ones you find at Michaels, but they are archival and that means a lot to me. I have 30 of these boxes stacked atop my bookcases, each labeled by year or event (say a trip). For my larger photos I have 2 art files from the same company (basically archival flat boxes). But I must admit that I do have one shoeboxes labeled "Refile" which basically means the photo was pulled out of it's official shoebox and not put back. This is what I'll be working on this week.

For online photos, well that's hubby's job. He works in the computer field and all computer related things are delegated to him. He has all of our digital photos organized by year, and then different subject headings underneath each year.

I guess my strategy this week was avoidence because I haven't touched my photos or scanned a single negative (at least I can use this as negatives week)

Hi everyone in round 4! I'm not able to keep up this round, but wanted to stop in and cheer everyone on. I've been working on yet another retirement sb and have found that I'm really appreciating that I organized those work-related photos in round 3; it's saved me a lot of time. It's worth the time and effort!
Hope life is treating each of you well and things are coming together.

Does anyone else think the weeks are flying by???

I'm not kidding!! It's like I blinked and the week was over.

Anyhow, here's how I organize my pictures:
Kris's Photo Organization

Seeing that I'm the papparazzi mom who takes 20 pictures of the same shot most of the time I'm not even going to try and figure that out. But when I whittle my pictures down, I do tend to print all "useable" pictures. I think I *might* scrapbook 60% of the ones I print, if I'm lucky!!

I'll go back and do some reading and catch up a bit.

Happy Mother's Day to all the moms on here

Congratulations Janet on getting this week done!! It's a great feeling when all you need to worry about is maintenance isn't it??

So how is everyone else doing?? It's really like an elephant - just take it one bite (or pile) at a time!!! I think I spent about a month going through my pictures and organizing them. Now I'm truly in maintenance mode and only really deal with the new pictures.

Ann - Sounds like a great plan!! Thanks for the reminder, I do need to backup my pictures on CD as well.

Gina - How did you do this week?? Sounds like you had a great plan as well!!

Leisa - How did you do this week?? If you have the space, an empty spare bed, floor space, and empty table - just haul all of your pictures over there. It would be easier to organize once you see ALL of what you're looking at, not to mention be able to plan storage once you see all that you'd like to store.

Lisa - I'm so jealous you're doing May with May How fabulous is that class?? I've been so busy, it didn't even clue in that it was May and by the time I went ot sign up, registration was over

Kaleidoscope - That's awesome!! I wish I only printed all the pictures I was going to scrap, but I end up printing WAY too many pictures. A few weeks ago I just tossed about 100 pictures that weren't being used for anything else. I need to get more picky with my printing!!

Nancyrd - That's great you have a good teamwork system going there!!

Cristi - Hello!!!! *waving furiously* Somehow April got away from me!! Work is more then insane as there are so many issues at this place that I'm furiously trying to work through. Not much pea time I'll try and come visit during the day, OK

Cristi/Susan - You guys are taking May's class too I change my mind ... please don't tell me how fabulous it is. I don't think I want to know

Susan - That is AWESOME!!! When I take 1160 pictures of a vacation, I end up printing at least 900 of them I like your odds much better!!

Lisa - I'm considering taking Stacy's class. but I'd also really like to take LOAD so I keep scrapping during the summer .... I definetly can't handle both at the same time.

Hi to everyone else!! Hope it was a great week for you all I'm being summoned up to breakfast. Happy Mother's Day everyone!!!

Just posted this over on the photography board. Anyone here have some insight?

"I just signed-up for Stacy Julian's revamped LOM class called Finding Photo Freedom. Stacy suggests one of the following programs: Picasa, ACDSee or Photoshop Elements. I've always used the Kodak or Canon software that came with a camera purchase, but want to invest in a better program.

I've only used basic editing in the past, but would like to learn more as I get more comfortable with my new camera. Besides editing features, I'm looking for ease in organizing my photos and like the idea of "tagging". Can anyone give me some pros and/or cons to the above programs? And which version of Photo Shop Elements would give me the biggest bang for my buck?"

Thanks for your help!
