good afternoon, ladies!
this week we're organizing our stamps - even i might be playing along this week because i'm so frustrated with stamps - acrylic stamps drive me insane.
here's the link to wookiemouse's blog.
question of the week: do you prefer rubber or acrylic stamps?
i actually like how much easier it is to get to my rubber stamps, which are all tossed in a basket as opposed to my acrylic stamps, which are all tossed in a basket in their original packaging.
i actually use my rubber stamps. i've never even opened the majority of my acrylic stamps.
happy organizing!

Oh yes, I will be playing along this week as well. I've been working on stamps for weeks.
I've unmounted all of my SU sets and put them into DVD cases (SU sells). Now I need to get the set names labeled on the spines and indexed in the correct spot in my binder.
For the QOTW: I love them both. I'm an equal opportunity stamper! LOL! I will say I prefer certain brands of clear stamps to others. Some of the cheaper brands don't take SU ink well and thats what I have most of so I stear clear of those.
See you all later this week! Hopefully I make some progress. |

Hey, everyone! This is the first week in a while that I will actually have a decent amount to do. I've realized that I don't have nearly the number of stamps that a lot of people do, but it still seems like a lot to me. I started yesterday by digging out all of my old foam stamps, and realized I still like those alphas, so I photographed each set and decided I need to get a basket to put those in. I plan to make a reference binder with the photos instead of stamping every single stamp I have. I think I'm going to unmount the relatively few mounted stamps I have, and then I will sort those and my acrylics into themes and put them in a binder (or two) on acetate sheets.
I have mostly acrylic stamps, due to the cheaper price. But I do like using rubber stamps a little better. The images just seem to be better. I am LOVING the newer cling mount rubber stamps...I could get in trouble buying those amazing Tim Holtz/Stampers Anonymous ones!! |

I am an acrylic stamp junkie! I just haven't had the heart to part with my rubber ones yet! Would love to scan and tag/categorize them this week, but my laptop died last night when it fell off the coffee table. (darned 2 ye olds).
Good news is, DH got me a new one. Bad news is that it will take until Weds to transfer the data, so I am smart phoning it...and trying like heck to spell corectly! LOL! |

I wish I could get all my stamps in one area but I have acrylics in a binder. Single wood mount in drawers and SU sets in Sterlite drawers. I would love to unmount my SU sets but I fear I would regret it once I am finished.
I am watching this thread and following links to previous threads to get ideas on a better storage system for my SU stamp sets. I have about 60 and they take up lots of room.
QOTW: I prefer rubber stamps because I rarely get a good impression with acrylic. ALl my ink pads are from SU so maybe that is the problem. I heard you need ink pads specially formulated for acrylics and budget does not allow me to reinvest in others. |

This is a problem area for me so I guess I will actually have to do a bit of work this week!
QOTW: I hate to say this, but the clear ones. I started crafting years ago making cards with SU!, so they are my old standbys. But I really like the acrylics since I can actually see where the stamp is going. |

ACK! We're on page three again!
Well, all I can say is: I'm glad I don't have as many stamps as some of you do! I went through all of the posts from the past few challenges to get some ideas, and some people have an unbelievable number of stamps! Wow!
I unmounted the few rubber stamps I have, and tonight I will be scanning all of my acrylics so I can make a reference binder with the scanned images (loved that idea...so much easier and quicker than stamping all of them...my idea of taking photos wasn't working out because of the glare!). My week has been busy, so this may not get done until into next week. But I don't go to crops, so I have nothing to do next week anyway!

Amanda - That VHS stand is perfect - checked out your blog. At one time I had one of those but sold it in a garage sale. I had thought of stacking them on bookcase shelves but the shelves are too deep. I need to check out a second hand shop for one of those VHS holders. |

Scrapoodle- Glad that you like it! Sorry that you got rid of yours. Luckilly it is yard sale season! I almost pitched mine when we moved in 2004... then I had the Ah Ha moment with my stack of stamps!

Janet- I have a few that are out on my desk because I seem to use them over and over for Project Life.
Guys I can't tell you how much I STILL love my stamping organization from round one. I took the time to stamp ALL my stamps on index cards and sort them by theme (some stamps were actually stamped multiple times because they fit more than one theme). I highly recommend this to anyone who seriously wants to know what they have AND get more use out of your stamps. I used what I had which was an index card box but others have used a roledex to accomplish the same thing.
You can see my index card box (sorry for the bad pictures) Here and my stamp storage itself Here

Dancingfish-Thanks for sharing!
I think that once I get my new laptop up and running, I am going to scan all my stamps to get an Idea of what exactly I have...I have way too many stamps, but I cant let let any of them go... I know, I have issues! |

Oh my! This is going to be a BUSY week for me! I have tons of wooden stamps, several unmounted rubber sheet stamps, and just a few clear stamps.
QOTW- I prefer rubber stamps by far. I guess you can tell that from my stock. While I like how easy it is to see what you are stamping with the clear, I just feel like I get a better image with my rubber stamps. I don't like cutesy stamps, and prefer well drawn detailed classical images. I guess that's why most of what I have is rubber.
Storage for me is not a problem (more about that later)-the problem this week is organizing, doing inventory, and getting them all in order. Most of this challenge is regarding my wooden block stamps. Before this week they were mostly just tossed into baskets. I have two types of wooden stamps-the type I purchased one by one, and those that came in my Club Scrap kit each month. I was a member for about 10 years-that's 3 rubber stamps each month, and that's a ton of stamps! Last night I put them all in pizza boxes (the easier to see the images, and get them into the right order so I can find what I need quicker. Club Scrap kits come in pizza boxes, so I had plenty of those. Anyway, I ended up with 10 pizza boxes full, and that's just the CS stamps. Oh my!!
My next step is to go through the list of kits month by month, label them and then get them in the right order. My other wooden stamps I still need to put into catagories-nature, quotes, ect. After all of this is done I plan to make an inventory of my stamps by stamping each image in a notebook. Yeah, what a huge project, but when I'm done I'll be so happy.
Now for the rest of my stamps-Club Scrap also sells sheets of unmounted rubber each month and I bought some on my own. Lucky for me almost all of these are cut, glued and stored in stamp binders. I have a list of what's in each binder so that works for me. I also have my clear stamps in these binders (they are CS binders which they unfortunately no longer sell) because they were perfect. Vinyl binders with a zipper all around. Once I finished up the last one I plan to move to the Univenture binders. These also close completely so it prevents lost little bits of unmounted rubber or clear stamps. Anyway, I still have about 10 sheets of unmounted rubber to cut, glue and store. Once this is done and the wooden block stamps are done I plan to also stamp each image and create and inventory so I can not only find each sheet of stamps, but all of the individual stamps easily.
Whew! This job could take months. I will check in again by the end of the week and let you know how it's going.
Debbie in MD.

Hi girls! I was actually going through my stamps this past week end, not even knowing we would be working on them this week. What a coincidence. Sooo...on to the
question of the week: do you prefer rubber or acrylic stamps?
I actually prefer the acrylic stamps. I like knowing where my image is going on my page, and the clear blocks and stamps allow me to do this perfectly. When I buy a wood mounted stamp I like, I un-mount it and add it to whatever category it belongs to.
As for storing my stamps, I have them sorted by category--pet, birthday, vacation, months, etc.--in photo storage boxes. I have found this method works for me. I am working on making an index using a Rolodex file. I really like that idea.
I also don't mind breaking up sets of stamps. I did that with a set of stamps that had paisleys and hearts. The hearts went to the "love" category, and I have yet to figure out where to put the paisleys.
Well, I guess that's all for now. I am going to keep working on my organization of stamps, i.e. making the index. Y'all have a good week! |

Working on my stamps gave me a headache last night! I got all of them scanned and then put them in page protectors. Didn't have the energy to go to the basement and get the binder for them...so they're propped up on the shelf for now. I have some rubber stamps that came just mounted on thick foam that I think I'm going to "cling" so I can put them in the binder, too, so I still have those to do. But I've made good progress!
In other news...I just caved to the peer pressure/enabling and am buying my first Copics. I was sent over to the dark side by the tutorial I saw today using Copics to color plain white ribbon to match a LO! Ugh! But the prospect of being able to color ribbon, jewels, etc. was too appealing. Now to stalk Michaels whenever there's a coupon... |

I loved your index idea so much I started mine in Round 2. However, it's still not finished ... but it's getting really close
I prefer rubber stamps. I find the acrylic ones aren't "crisp" enough for me usually. | |
