Please please please, can anyone help me get my hands on a SCAL version 2 for use with the Cricut machine? I LOVE my cricut, and I had never heard of SCAL until recently. But of course now you can't buy SCAL to work with cricut, and I'm desperate to own it. I have been searching everywhere to no avail. If anyone has one me please let know, you would make my whole YEAR by selling me one!!! THANK YOU!!

Just saw that 3 of them sold for $325, $365 and $375 respectively.

I find it interesting that this new Pea's first post is begging to find something that is going for beaucoup bucks on eBay. Wonder if she wants to buy it here for cheap and then resell on eBay...just saying it is suspicious.

OMG!
That's insane.
And I have both 1 & 2 for Windows.
That would pay for my new KNK ZING and more......or almost pay for a KNK Maxx!!!

@Siamese Peas, really?!? Wow, what a distrustful person. I'm sorry that I somehow rubbed you the wrong way, but I am not looking to make any money, I was excited to find out about scal and unfortunate that they had already been stopped by provocraft. People like you are the reason I don't have much to do with forums, discussions, and chat pages. I joined because while on maternity leave I had extra time to play and shop online. I do have to say thanks for really starting my day off on the wrong foot and making me crabby at 6:30 am. Nice. Karma.

christinatheisen - I just want to say welcome to the boards and I hope you find what you're looking for (although I can't help with it). Most of the time the Peas are a great bunch and full of helpful info. Sorry your first post was blasted by someone.

If you can't find SCAL for a decent price, then I suggest you seriously consider getting a Silhouette or some other electronic cutter. I recommend the Silhouette because I think it's the most affordable option right now. It doesn't mean you can't continue to use your beloved Cricut. You will still be able to, but you will continue to be limited to the cartridge. However, having a Silhouette will give you the freedom to use all your computer fonts, dingbats, weld, and even create your own designs. Many people have found it for $200 or less, which would certainly be less expensive than buying SCAL on ebay.

FWIW, the Silhouette can cut far more detailed designs than the Cricut can. Most of the other electronic cutters can.

If you can find someone to sell you their SCAL 2, great, but if not, I just hope you realize it isn't your only option.

Sorry I was distrustful...just been on 2Peas long enough to see stuff like that happen. I have seen 2 posts on other forums this week - wanting to buy SCAL2 - just when the eBay prices skyrocketed. It just struck me as too coincidental. However, I am sorry I assumed you were someone trying to make a quick buck.

Agree with you Scrapn Nana...at that price just buy a cutter designed to go with SCAL. I personally haven't had issues cutting with my Cricut, but I know lots have complained about circles and intricate designs giving them trouble. So, at that rate they could go get a Silhouette in October, when they release the one that cuts 12x12.

Thanks everyone! I'll keep my eyes open, but I can't justify spending $300-$400 on software. Maybe I'll look into the Silhouette sometime in the future. I didn't realize they don't cut 12x12 tho, I would def want that!
For now I'll keep on using my Cricut and buying cartridges off eBay for $20.
@Siamese, no harm. Thanks for the apology.

The new Cameo that's coming out in October will cut true 12x12.

Sizzix announced at CHA that the eClips will work with SCAL also! It's the perfect marriage of a cartridge based cutter that allows you to make your own dies too.

Bravo Sizzix for picking up where PC dropped the ball!

I already own SCAL and am thinking of buying the new eclips or cameo.... does anyone know if I will still be able to use the version of SCAL that I own or if I will need to buy a newer version?

Best check out the Craft Edge website to make sure, but I think I remember reading that they were offering SCAL 2 users free upgrades to version 3 to be compatible with all the other cutters.

I thought I read somewhere (maybe here?) that SCAL will not work with the Cameo? I thought it was because it won't be needed to cut SVG's since you'll be able to cut them with the Silhouette's new software. Does that ring a bell with anyone?

Sure Cuts a Lot 2 is for sale on Amazon. I got a copy and am very pleased with the seller. Very quick shipping and great customer service for any questions I had. Search "Sure Cuts a Lot" on Amazon to buy it. Right now, it's going for $45.99 on sale, but is normally $49.99, which still is not bad considering how much they sell for on eBay! Here's the Amazon links:

This is an old thread brought to the top, but just in case someone is looking for SCAL and doesn't know what has happened since the lawsuits.......

I have read that if SCAL was previously loaded on someone else's computer, that it won't work for anyone else. Make sure you are buying an older version that has never been used and is still in the shrink wrap, because the newer versions are not supposed to work with the Cricut.

You would be better off buying a new machine. Cricut does not cut finer details as well as the other electronic cutters. The only reasons to have a Cricut would be for the convenience of a stand alone machine that you can take to crops, or if you like their designs. To try to buy SCAL for a Cricut at this point is a gamble.

I suggest getting a Silhouette or Cameo if you want to cut your computer fonts or make your own designs. And you won't need SCAL if you buy a new cutter.
