good evening, ladies! hope everyone's having a great weekend thus far!

i want to start off by saying - please remember that wookiemouse created this challenge and took the time to put together the wonderful blog we refer to each week that is such an awesome resource, so many thanks to her for that!

the second order of business - participation drastically declined during the last round and it was suggested to me that i wait until after the new year to start posting these threads again - i didn't want to do that, b/c i'd already promised several peas i'd start posting them again in mid-october; however, i spend quite a bit of time each week posting these threads/the links within them, so i'm really hoping that participation remains strong throughout this entire round.

i do plan to take a few weeks off around the holidays - probably, the week of thanksgiving, the week of christmas, and the week of new year's. i'll, ofcourse, let everyone know ahead of time which weeks not to expect to see a new thread, but i did want to assure everyone that we won't be organizing on the holiday weeks - well, ofcourse, unless we want to.

last, but not least, i've posted all the threads for the last three rounds of this challenge - this, as far as i'm concerned, is the last chance round (where i'll be posting these threads each week, atleast), so if you're interested - now's the time to jump in... after this, i'll be passing the torch, so to speak... the only exception to that would be if i were to switch spaces, but that, more than likely, wouldn't be until the beginning of the 2013 - and, maybe, not even that soon, so...

i typically post these threads late saturday/early sunday - every now and again, my internet goes down for a day, but... generally speaking, you can expect to see the new thread posted by 12pm est. time on sunday.

if i were you, i'd hold on to your sunday papers for the ads - you know, just in case...

also, there's a master thread in my signature that has a link to each week of each round if you're looking for ideas.

please remember, i won't be playing along with you ladies each week - i'm more than organized at this point. lol... i may add the weeks i haven't already to my blog, but i have very little left to organize - and by very little, i mean just the newest paper that i haven't added into my cropper hoppers yet.

so, now i've gone through all of the basics, let the challenge begin!

this week, we're going to be considering what's working and what's not in our spaces...

here's the link to the overview on wookiemouse's blog.

here's the link to the space audit on wookiemouse's blog.

question of the week: take a moment to introduce yourself...

happy organizing!

Thank you Crisann.

I am excited to get started. My space needs this challenge

I am Jen. I have been scrapbooking and collecting scrapbook supplies since 1996 or 1997. I am lucky enough to have a scrapbook room, but it is usually a wreck. I am hoping that I will find better organization through this challenge. My biggest problem is that I have so much stuff that is not organized well or is no longer my style but I hate to throw away. I am excited that this challenge is small steps so I shouldn't be overwhelmed. I'm just planning on taking it week by week.

I think we may benefit from doing the challenge during the holidays. If we are falling behind we will have a little time to catch up when we have the week off.

I'll be doing this too! We just renovated a bedroom into a scrap and craft room, so I need to get my materials organized.

I'm Lynette, and I'm excited to be joining you on this process...thanks so much for doing it one.more.time! I've been scrapping since '94, and this year I've done a LOT of purging of things I no longer wanted or needed (the LSS garage sale is my friend). I intend to redecorate my space this fall and winter, as it's not been painted in 12 years (too much stuff in my way!). Probably can't get to the painting and other things I want until later this year, but organizing now seems like a great idea to me just so I can be ready for that big project!

Thanks for posting ... and thanks for starting again in October. I really didn't want to wait.

I'm not too, too bad. I'm a former packrat with backsliding tendencies. I did a huge overhaul on my own a couple of years ago. I've been kind of good since then, but have some areas that need work. For instance, the closet in my SBR, which was supposed to work as a organization space for storage and stuff that doesn't need to be out has become a dumping grown. Also, I have a ton of old embellishments that I couldn't toss before. I'd like to be done with them once and for all. Even the stuff I do want to keep tends to be in several different spots and I'd like to get it all together and organized. As we go through the challenge, I intend to use Freecycle for the most part, maybe Craigslist, to get rid of stuff as I go. No keeping anything for "some day," "someone could use this," "I paid a lot of money for this," or "I'll have a garage sale sometime."

wow, i'm impressed - midnight on a saturday night! lol...

for those of you that don't already know me, i'm crisann. i evolved from a writer to a scrapbooker - these days, i've been spending most of my time working on art journaling and mixed media projects.

i'm engaged. we have a long-haired orange tabby (who is no longer allowed in my studio unsupervised!) and a chocolate lab (who thinks he's human, just like us) - they're in my signature, no kids as of yet, and we're in the process of remodeling (very, very slowly). i work fulltime (and then some) as an office manager in a scrap yard. we actually expanded this summer, opened a second yard, and i got transferred to the new yard.

if you're interested in seeing this crazy process, there're links to some of the posts from the last several rounds on my blog - as well as my after photos - as of the end of the last round.

i actually played along alot more last round than what i had planned to b/c when i started getting into art journaling and mixed media, my "stuff" grew and changed quite a bit.

have a nice night!

I am so happy that you started this up.
I did it the first time wookiemouse had it up...of cours I was late to the party.....real late.
But I went back and did all the challenges.

That was a year or so ago..and well I need to revamp my organizing.
As it turns out, I just posted on my blog, that I finally cleaned my desk off.....it took almost 2 hours, as I tried to put everything in its proper place.
I said to myself, I could only touch something once...that really helped me not put that object on different flat surface, lol.

My supplies are spilling out of my scrap/craft room and onto bookcases and the pool table in the family room.......so, yes I need to do this again.

I may be able to skip some challenges as they still work for me from the first time I took this challenge.
If you want to see my progress the first time check my gallery on 2 peas, as I shared how I did certain challenges.

Again thank you for starting this up again.

Wow that was a long reply, lol.

Good morning everybody, and thanks crisann to do this challenge one time again.

I never saw this thread before, because I wasn't very active on the forum (because of the language : I am always afraid that you won't understand my english).

I really want to organise my stuff because I usually scrap in my sitting room, and, well... It doesn't look like to a sitting-room anywhere... I need to purge !

I scrap since 2008 and I don't use anymore some stuff but I can't throw anything.

I forgot : I am 33 years old, I live in France, I have two little boys and I won't work until june. So I have to organise my stuff before that !

Good morning,

My name is Michele. I have scrapbooking since 1998. I'm living with my bf and our two beautiful children with third on way. Yep, busy mama here. lol
this will be my third round as I kinda stop in middle way both times due to moing and yet again I'm in process of moving again. lol so right now I'm packing up but doing group like items so i can do this in my new space which I'm so excited. Right now, I'm writing downw hat work for me and doesn't work for me to set up in new space. Thanks, Crisann for doing this round again.

hi. i'm Judy & have two dogs, the youngest of whom likes to take the keys off of my laptop keyboard!

I've got my stuff pretty well organized, EXCEPT......

I rearranged my scraproom, but still haven't figured out how I want my work table set up. This arrangement will be more functional, I'm sure. I have a Bonus Room for my scrap space, all mine!!! Big room, with deeply pitched/slanted ceilings on the sides, so not a whole lot of wall space.

hAPPy organizing, everyone.

Thanks Crisann for starting this - I'm always looking at more efficient ways to use my space.

My name is Jenny and I have been scrapbooking since 1998. I'm married, have 2 DSD's and a 2 yr old German Shorthaired Pointer, who also thinks she's human. I scrapbook and stamp.

I have gone from not having a scrap space to having a scrap room to now sharing part of a common room. So, as you can imagine have had to adapt by purging, downsizing and organizing.

I was in a bit of a scraprut and wondered if my space had to do with it? So, I had started organizing and decluttering before I saw this post.

I'm not sure where we put some of our challenges with our areas, so I'm hoping we can do so here. Here is my first.......

I have a relatively small working surface. I keep a lamp, a small tool caddy to store my commonly used tools, a cork memo board on the side [that holds a color wheel, shopping list as I run out of SB stuff and some other personal pictures]. My issue is with storage for my trimmers. I have no space on either side of my surface to store these as I really want to have them handy but not taking up space on my table. Now, there is a small space the size of a large triangle next to my table, but I have not been able to find anything that fits in this area. I'm also not a big fan of the wall storage systems as I have framed 12x12 LO's right in front of my area that serves as inspiration. Any ideas???

Jenny

Hey, everyone! I'm Beth and this is my second consecutive challenge. I finished the last one with only a few areas still needing work, but I know that by doing this again I can tweak all the areas and make everything work better. For those of you who are "newbies", I can tell you this will change the way you scrap. I am SO much more creative with everything in its place!

A little about me...I work full time as a project manager and have an awesome husband and two amazing kids. We are brand new empty nesters as of August, with both kids now attending Purdue University. We do get to see them a lot as we have season football AND basketball tickets (DH is also a Purdue grad). We are blessed with some great friends, and all of our extended family lives in the same area as we do. So we are usually busy hanging out with them. DH has been traveling more lately, so I have some extra "me" time to work on my crafty stuff.

I look forward to getting to know everyone!

Hi all. I'm really glad this challenge is running again. Thanks Crisann.

I'm Shelley. I've been scrapbooking since 2002. Other crafts I enjoy are cardmaking(stamping), crochet, jewelry making & cross-stitch. I have a 10x10ish craftroom. My stuff is starting to take over the guest rooms though. It started small, just a wip project in a drawer "temporarily, just a box of yarn leftovers in the closet, & fold out tables for big projects or when friends come over to scrap "once in a while". Now the closet is full of yarn & wip crochet projects, the drawers are full of wips & scraps, & the tables are pretty much permanent. This needs to change. Some of my organization is good I just need to sort some stuff back into place, some is good but I've outgrown it or I've found something I like better, & some is barely better then a pile in the corner.

I'll be back with my works & dosen't lists & maybe some pics later.

Hi.

I'm Lisa. I'm an alumna of this challenge (of sorts) and will chime in here when I can. I have participated in all the rounds of this challenge, and while I still have one organizing challenge to finish (Hello, week 4), I have decided that I'm happy with what I've done with my room, so far. I'm as organized as I'm going to be, given the circumstances.

Thanks, crisann, for all you've done. And good luck to all who are joining this round.

Hi eveybody!
Thanks a lot Crisann, for doing this one last time.

I'm Hilde and I'm really excited to do this along with all of you. I started scrapping in 2002 (I think), with supplies I found at Office Depot. Let's just say I've spent a lot of time and money on this hobby since then. And perhaps more money than time... I love scraapbooking, but I seem to give priority to other activities.

My hope is that going thorugh this challenge will make it easier to pull out some supplies and play a bit between everything else I do.

Hey Shelley, what are wips? And where in nwPA are you from? We lived in State College for three years.

Hi everyone,

I'm Debbie and I've been scrapbooking since 1997, although I haven't scrapped in the last 3 years do to a chronic illness. I'm feeling much better these days and hope to start again soon. I live in Annapolis, MD. with my DH and my son (22) who is attending our nearby community college. He will transfer to university next year. We also have two cats (a Siamese and a shelter kitty), and my parents and sister live 10 minutes drive away from us which is very nice.

I am very lucky to have half of the finished basement in our house for my scraproom. I did participate in the last round of this challenge and loved it! I feel so much more organized now, but still have weeks I didn't quite finish, or places that need tweaking. (Like making a stamp inventory)-still haven't gotten around to that.

Thank you so much Crisann for doing another round of this challenge. I really appreciate all of your time and work.

Debbie in MD.

Hi, I have mostly lurked during the other challenes but since this is the last figured now or never.

My name is Chelan and I have been scrapbooking for about 9 yrs. I have 2 kids, I work 2 part-time jobs and go to school part-time. I have very limited free time and am finding that I spend more time looking for things than actually scrapping. I share my space with my kids' play area and living room. My DH is quite supportive of my scrapbooking as long as my stuff doesn't encroch on the TV area (I've been told that's his) but soemtimes the coffee table is the only flat surface available to work on.

What isn't working for me is my work table - If I have a project that needs to dry, or I need to find an embellishment I don't have enough room to start a new project because I have so much other stuff on the table.

Hello Everyone!

Well... I have been meaning to do this, each time I start something happens. Well.... I am finally settled in life. I am married and we finally moved into our own apartment. Everything was in tubs and in storage. So I was not able to scrap. Now that I have the space, I am excited and can't wait to scrap. I have half a room. My husband and I share a room, called our workroom. Half is his space and half is mine. We are seperated by tubs in the middle. So I have a desk and shelves right above me and off to the side. As well as stuff being in tubs behind me. I am waiting for my husband to put up my small pegboard to hold me tools. In the end... I still need to work on my organization

hello everyone, my name is sandi and i am a hoarder of all stuff 'craft' i am a tool junkie for sure.
i love to create, but have gotten to the point that my mojo is diminished by the time i find my stuff and clear a space to work.
i have intended to join this challenge everytime it started. i am determined to do it now.
i live alone, so i can get as messy as needed.
i work full time as a night nurse, so i may be posting at odd hours.

crisann, thank you so much for doing this again. my mother sent me a magnet that says 'if it wasn't for the last minute, nothing would get done'.....that says it all about my home life.
i am uber-organised at work though, so there may be some hope for me.

Hello, I'm Val! I moved in July and I'm trying to get my room organized. This is coming right on time for me. I actually have a room that will fit all my stuff so this should really be a challenge. Thanks for allowing me to participate. I work full-time and really hope I can keep up with everything. I'm not sure exactly what i'm supposed to be doing this week but I'll keep reading and hopefully find out.

I did a layout the Saturday night and the only reason I found the photo is b/c I printed it on the spot. The paper I found right away but I had to step over stuff on the floor that doesn't have a home. The ATG is in it's rightful place on the table and I did the journaling on the computer. The stamps I used on the layout was pretty easy to find b/c I have them hanging on the clip it up. I was happy to get it done but it was a bit of a challenge.

I would love for you to check out my blog, follow, and/or leave comments.

I'm Lydia, an alumni from a couple of rounds ago. I'm a middle-aged mom to three (not so) little boys in the BC interior, Canada. The boys are getting busier this year.

I'm back because I'm taking over a windowless room next to my scraproom/office that I'd like to set up for sewing/painting/mixed media (ie messy) stuff. I'll have to modify some weeks for different supplies, but aim to play along in some way.

I'm starting to empty it out today because I NEED to paint it. It's a muddy purple that looks awful without any natural light. It's been our 'junk room' so there's a lot of stuff to move! Lots of it is my fabric and painting stuff, though. I'd like to go 'clean slate' next week, but without my 'junk room' I'm not sure where I'd put it all. Maybe I shouldn't jump the gun! Thanks for doing this one last time Crisann, it's easier to organize with others to share ideas with.

Hi My name is Beatriz and i am sort or a lurker. lol. Well i recently moved and started unpacking all my scrappy stuff in an alcove in a hallway but not even halfway through i realized that i needed a bigger space. Luckily i have an much larger alcove in my bedroom which i am looking at converting into my scrappy space. I have tried doing this challenge before but never fully commit to it. Luckily since the new spot is empty i think i can make this challenge work. Looking forward to completing this challenge this time around.

hi ladies!

glad to see so many of you excited about this! it will change the way you create, i swear! i mean, seriously, i went from, maybe, a half dozen lo's a year to a half dozen projects a month (and that's only b/c i average 50-60 hrs/wk at work - otherwise, it'd be lots more). i'd love to have a larger space (which is in our remodeling plans, eventually), but i love being in here and being surrounded by all of my organized stuff.

lydia - if you need some help with the mixed media supplies, that's my area of "organizing expertise." lol... i had to re-think this entire room when i started bringing home the messy stuff. that'll learn me! s/o still doesn't understand why i can't stick to "one" hobby - he doesn't understand that all of this - writing/scrapbooking/art journaling/mixed media/jewelry - it's all related - well, sort of...

to everyone that thanked me - you're very welcome!

hopefully, everyone will get to know eachother and you'll all chat and bounce ideas off eachother...

have a nice night and happy organizing!

I have a two drawer rolling sterilite cart. The drawers are deep but not deep enough for 12x12. I'm debating how to use it to organize it. If you have one or one similar to it, what do you use it for??

Paper organization is not my issue - but I can always use this to store my 8 1/2 x 11 paper sorted by color. Right now I am storing them vertically in a cabinet next to my table and it's been working for me.

I also have a bunch of idea magazines that I can't bear to part with but don't use as often. I have some but not enough to use up all 2 drawers.

I would love to store my 12x12 plastic envelopes with a closure which I use to hold my embellishments by theme but they won't fit without getting damaged. I could guess I could out and buy new 8 1/2 x 11 or wait til I see a sale - as I really didn't want to spend any money. However, I may not have much of a choice.

Anyone want to chime in??

@CTPea, I use something similar for my embellies by theme & store them in a Jetmax cube (from Mikes; ACM has something similar), in the slotted cubes intended for 12x12" paper. They fit nicely & are easy to pull out to use. I have them labeled (computer label) at the top so that I know which one to pull out. HTH, Judy

Hi, my name is Michelle and I'm a mom of 3 busy boys, all under age 10. I work part-time but own my own pharmacy, so the admin takes up a lot of time (and space).

My stuff is reasonably organised but my desk disappears sometimes under scrapping and work-related stuff. I need a more effective way of seperating the two functions and opening up more 'flat surfaces' on my desk.

I have also started stamping (thank you, Nichol) much more this year and those supplies have out-grown the storage I had.

I may not play along every week but I'll check in every week to see what area is being addressed. And it seems like a great idea that we have a special area to bounce ideas off each other.

Hope no one minds a long term lurker joining in but I really need to make my craft space work better for me.

I'm Sarah in the UK, I've not worked outside the home for a while due to my health but am hoping to return to paid employment in the not too distant future.
I love my craft room but know that it could do better and having lurked on the previous round a little am hoping that this will give me the incentive I need to get it sorted.

Hi, I'm Lisa and I've been scrapping since my son was born in 2003. We lived in New York City at the time, and my stash was limited to a corner in the living room. In 2007, we moved to Arizona and I finally had somewhat of a scrap space even though I share it with my son's playroom for now. I went on a crazy buying spree when we moved here because, for the first time, I had LSS and big box stores nearby. Needless to say, I'm a mess and really need to organize because I've lost my desire to do anything crafty because of the state of my scraproom.

Thank you so much Chrisann for taking the time to do this challenge. I'm looking forward to spending the next few months working on it!

Okay, so what works/does't work for me :

- photos : yes and no.

Yes because I have not photo printer, so I send them to a labo. So I have already picked them (what theme i want to scrap, what I have to say about that pic), and resized them, but I need to do that more regularly.
And on my computer, photos are not really well organized (I mean, one file by year, and into this file, one file by month). I need to purge photos that are really too bad, but it is hard for me...

- journaling : yes and no.
Some time ago (i mean : before baby two..), I was writing often what happens in our life, little things here and there and regularly, I was writing my journaling, so that they were ready when time to scrap came. But I don't do that very often now, and I want to do that again because that was so great for scrapping more efficiently !

I usually handwrite them, I have lots of journaling stamps or I write them around or into something, well, no problem here.

- title : yes.
I usually use my bigshot, I have lots of alphabets. Sometimes stamps, sometimes stickers, and these two things are organized not too bad.
Maybe I could make a pretty box for my alpha dies (they are in a drawer).

About pens : really messy ! Everything in a drawer and I use very few of them, I have to purge !

- embellishments : I don't put a lot of them. I usually use the same (brads, dies, ribbon...). They are in drawers, I can reach them easily, but they have to be more organized.
And above all, I have to purge what I don't use , or organize them in a better way, they take too much space and it is messy !

- Stamps : clears stamps in two boxes, very messy, love my stamps but hate how they are organized, except my woodstamps, that are organized in a recup' box with shelves (when you open it), great !

- Inks : I have too much and use the same all the time. These are easy to reach but others are messy... I have little bits of papers with colors of inks put together and I like them to choose colors for a project ! That works well.

- others : paint, mists, perfect pearls... I don't use them vey often and it is messy...

- Glue : everywhere !! I have to put them in one place.

- Cardstocks : not so bad. I have an old... don't know the name. It has shelves exactly the size of cardstocks, great ! But it's a little broken, DH should fix it...
So I can reach easily ALL my papers, but I have to organize them by type/color in a better way.

Like the way I organized my scraps because I use them a lot, but my cardboard boxes are too old, need news and want to embellish them.
I have one boxe for very little scraps (can't trow them away and I really use them with my big shot !), one box for medium sized scraps but this one is too small, and one for big scraps.

- Patterned papers : full sheets are in the shelves and that is okay. Used sheets are in albums that I don't like (and don't want to use for my layouts), classed by collections. I have only two albums because I use them a lot, and sometimes, I mix these scraps between them, depending to how many scraps I have from this or this. But I know exactly what I have, so it works well for me.

I would like to do more and prepare kits with used sheets that match well !

- Albums : okay. Well organized but I'd like to do more for them too.

- Tools : punches in a drawers, that's okay. Big shot on myshelf, okay. Everything else is a little or very messy !

- Magazines : so messy...

- Scraproom : a very big problem because it should be our sitting room and it is only a messy room !

- Place to work : too messy, I have not enough space to work.

thanks to ask us to do that . I have a little idea of what to do, but... Don't know where to begin ! Too much to do !!

Thanks again, crisann, love this thread, hope that I will do a good job with you.

Just had to say, Cyriaque, that for someone whose native language is not English, you get along just fine! Glad you decided to join us and not be nervous about the language! Love your blog, by the way!

Here are the areas I still need to get a handle on:

Photos: I read Stacy Julian's book and set up a "Library of Memories" type of filing system. Have I used it yet? That would be...NO. So this is something I will definitely concentrate on this round!

Stamps: I've acquired several more sets and they are not filed yet.

Ink pads, etc.: I've also gotten some more of these, so I need to rearrange my drawers so I can find everything and still close the drawers!

Paints, etc.: I'm not happy with where this stuff is stored, so I'm rethinking this.

Punches: Another thing I've bought a few more of, so they need a new home.

Chipboard: I discovered I actually have a bit of this (hiding in an old box!), so I need a storage plan.

Dies: Don't have any, but I do want to get my Silhouette files better organized.

Memorabilia: Yeah, so...can I forget I have any of this? Need to get it all in one place and purge!

Fonts: Still working on organizing these.

In general, I need to rethink my storage areas. I have some new tools (yay for my new Bind It All!) that don't really have a good home yet. So I'll be thinking on all that!

Hi. My name is Kristine and I work full time. Married, but no kids yet, however, I have quite a few nieces and nephews to scrap. I've watched these threads every round they have been posted, but have never jumped in and joined. Well, now is the time! I've slowly tried to get my room in order, but have quite a few unfinished organizing attempts.

What Works:
- Paper - sorted by color
- Embellishments - sorted by color, but I need to them divide them even further by type in my color bins
- Punches - organized in three drawers

What Doesn't Work:
- Stamps - not sure how to tackle this one
- Photos - started the Library of Memories system, but need to fully implement it
- Magazines & Ideas - need to be able to reference easier
- Dies & Embossing Folders - in binders but I hardly ever use them, would like to use them more!

Looking forward to all the ideas/help and getting my room organized!

Another update -

What is working:

Cardstock - vertical storage by color

Patterned paper - also vertical storage by manufacturer and all others by color

Embellishments - by theme in 12x12 plastic envelopes

Letter stickers - in 12x12 envelope

Rubons - in 12x12 envelope except for alphabets by MM and scrapworks which are in a small portable case.

Photos (Printed) - sorter in small vertical file kept on my desk. It is sorted by theme after the pictures are printed.

Photos (Storage) - I store my pictures in an external hard drive (have lost my pictures before so no going back to that disaster). I usually empty my memory cards after an event or two. I have my pictures sorted by year and event/theme. (so for example: a folder for 2011 and another folder within 2011 for Pumpkin Picking, First day of school, etc). It works for me.

I usually don't crop my pictures or PS them until I'm ready to order them online. I've come a LONG way since I used to print all the pictures I took. Sheesh!!

Stamps - Several years back I unmounted all of my stamps from the wooden blocks. They are all stored in a 12x12 case. I had quite a few cropper hopper dividers left over and I used them to store my stamps. Each divider labeled with a theme and the stamps are adhered to them.

Ink - SU! storage for inkpads. Love it can't beat it.

Punches - stored in small (3 drawer)sterilite storage. Each drawer is labeled.

Fiber - same as above.

Chipboard - in a drawer in my ALEX 9 drawer rolling tower from IKEA.

Adhesives - stored in IKEA's small storage boxes. The drawers are deep and perfect for spray bottles, for my photo tab container and my stash of adhesive rolls.

Idea books/magazines - in vertical storage next to desk for easy access. I also do not keep magazines. I rip any ideas I want to try out and then put them in my sketches book.

Sketches - Love them!! I took a med size notebook and cut up my sketches. I glued them on the pages according to number of pictures on the LO. It was pain to start but now I just have to keep up with any new sketches I get. I worked on this last month and am happy to say I've been using faithfully because I was in such a bad rut.

Albums - I have a book shelf in our living room and it is stored by album size and then by completed albums vs. works in progress.

Challenges:

Ribbon - right now in glass containers and a drawer in my ALEX 9 drawer rolling tower from ikea. Not really working for me.

Embellishments without a theme - SO not working for me. I have pockets of these stored everywhere.

Alphabets (excluding chipboard, stickers or rub ons) - again SO not working, here there and everywhere.

That's it so far....can't wait to hear any feedback to how other store their items

ctpea - what's your first name?

have you thought about using color bins for non-themed embellishments and alphas? or just sorting them by type - brads or eyelets or flowers or...

beth - i "forgot" about memorabilia. lol... i put it in an expandable envelope in s/o's office - out of sight, out of mind.

cyriaque - i have all of my adhesives in one basket. so much easier to just grab the basket and choose what i want to use, then toss it back in.

sorry, i just skimmed down through and threw out suggestions for a few things.

if there's anything i can help anyone with, let me know.

have a nice night!

I hv been a lurker of these threads for ever.. and now is the time to get busy. I have an upstairs Studio in our home, but the supplies are slowly taking over, to the point where it's embarassing.. stuff is everywhere.. last year i got into mixed media.. paint, watercolors, and more.. then sewing, then beading... then jewelry making, my friend got me a sewing machine i started designing my own fabrics and now I'm getting back into scrapbooking and papercrafting and hving so much fun. I hv an active Etsy shop too...
and omg.. my supplies are everywhere... lately, i've been into paper collage and ephemera, u can imagine everything I have.
I so need this.
I live in Fargo with my hubby Greg and my two girls live away fr us.. and visit sometimes... so I hv the time and the space to get organized, finally.
My stuff is everywhere!

It's getting bad.. I know I hv stuff, but I hv no idea where it is.. sad actually.

There are some things I have that I wanna use, but i'm too lazy to move so much stuff to get to it.. know the feeling? I need help for sure..

plus hubby and I eventually wanna move further south in the next few years, and he's already told me there is no way he's moving everything the way it is now... I need to destash, sell some and get rid of some and organize better.

I'm happy to be here..

Wow. OK. I THOUGHT I was organised.

I just did the first challenge(without doing a layout, but going through each area of my stash critically) and here is what I came up with:

Paper- organised but I need to label the manufacturers (stickers
have come off), pp - running out of space; pp scraps - filed
but never used, need to find a way to change that.

Embellies - bling needs help, fibers not working, alphas not working
eyelets - need to purge the shaped ones, misc. - HELP!

Chipboard - organised but hidden in separate cupboard.

Tools - need to scratch in my storage tin too much, caddy works well.

Stickers and Rub-ons - need larger storage: I can't see what I have
without unpacking everything.

Memorabilia - Yikes! Kids stuff everywhere, just piled up. All over the
house. I also have a lot of family history stuff (docs, albums, clothes, paintings) stored in cupboards everywhere I could find a place. I'm very interested in geneology, so the family just sends me everything every time an older family member passes.

Magazines - need to purge everything but CK - just can't get myself to cut those up. But all the others are fair game. But what do I do with all the ideas in the others?

Inks - need to find larger storage, maybe seperate embossing powder from inks...

This is really much more than I thought it would be! I think I need this challenge a lot more than I thought!

Crisann, thnaks for your suggestion, so I need to get some baskets, boxes, etc !

Bethkk, you're so sweet ! Thanks ! I am glad to discover your own blog. See you soon !

Stacy Julian's photo organization sounds great, I have to do that.

Ok because i love how the rest of you ladies explained what works and doesn't work here is my list!

Okay, so what works/doesn't work for me :

- photos : No This is a big problem area.
I have about 30 years of pictures that are printed some even have doubles and triples. They are not sorted in anyway. They are stuffed into a cropper hopper photo box and a couple other boxes that i purchased at AC Moores.

Digital pictures are also a mess. They are not saved in anyway specific i have 3 computers and they all have pictures. I also have about 3 years worth of pictures on a hard drive.

- journaling : yes and no.
I mostly hand write my journaling. I would like to change that a bit cause sometimes i cant read what i write.
When i have scraps of cardstock in between projects i usually cut out little note cards or top note cards with my cricut. I store them in a pencil holder box.

- title : yes.
I mostly use thickers or alpha stickers unless i am going for something specific and then i will use my cricut and SCAL

About pens and markers! Mostly use my markers for journaling. Gel pens RARELY get used.

- embellishments :I have LOTS of embellishments would like to find a way to have them more visible so i can use them more often.

- Stamps : I mostly own Clear stamps and they are stored in a zip up binder.

- Inks : Dont have too many of these so this is pretty good

- others : paint, mists, perfect pearls... I have a plastic basket with all my acrylic paints and my mists and pearls are in a drawer in one of those Ikea ALEX drawer cabinets

- Glue : All the wet ones are kept together in a small plastic basket together and then my atg and my pop up glue dots are all in a drawer

- Cardstocks : a disaster

Scraps are an even bigger disaster.

- Patterned papers : Also a mess

Scraps are also a mess

- Albums : okay not too bad. I am not a chronological scrapper so i just make layouts and put them in one of those plastic 12x12 boxes until the box is full and then i put them in albums. Each of my kids has an album and we have a family album.

-tools are not an issue.

- Magazines : Not an issue i dont keep too many of them and after a year i start to cut out pages of things i like and put them in a magazine holder. Eventually i would like to transport those pages into a binder

- Scraproom : Doesnt exsist. I have an alcove in my bedroom and right now its a clean slate. So i want to plan it out perfectly before buying anything. I have a 8 cubby Expedite from ikea and the Alex 6 drawer cabinet. I will have to buy shelves since my floor space is limited.

I am also buying a desk or 2. I have 115 inches of space for desk space. I do have to share this space with our second computer. So my plan is to make 2 work stations one for me and my mac and an area to scrap. and then a smaller area for the 2nd computer which mostly my husband uses.

So these are my problem areas. I am sure i will think of a few more and will edit this post to add them..

Thanks for starting this thread again!

Bettyboop, your answer makes me laugh because of disaster here and there ! But I grap some ideas, you're right, this post is so useful !
Like the idea to cut out little note cards with scraps ! (Well, after, you have to store them...).

I have lurked on this site since the first challenge round was about half over! I finally came out of lurkdom this week and am admitting some of my organization is not where I want it yet.

I am married, work full time and have one Siamese furbaby, Sapphire. My scrap space is the corner of our guest room, small but pretty functional most of the time.

The things that work are:

photos-all digital, organized by date and event, I only print when I am ready to scrap them or make up kits.

negatives-have very small amount, all envelopes in a photo box, labeled w/date and event, have not used any in several years, considering tossing them!!

paper-pp sorted by color and size in vertical containers; cardstock-sorted by color and size but my 12x12 may need to find a different container, not sure I like the one I have any more as it is not easy to get into.

ribbon and buttons-sorted by color in jars on shelves.

scraps-accordion folder by color-gets used at every scrap session before cutting into a new piece of paper.

tools-most used ones within arms reach; need a better way to store the "occasional" ones

dies and embossing folders-labeled and in DVD cases (recently did this and love it)

brads and eyelets: Craft Mates containers by color/shape.

alphas: stickers in a binder sorted by color and chipboard in a multi-drawer unit labeled.

What doesn't work:

punches-in sterilite drawers, too crowded and no room for growth.

acrylic stamps-in a binder but not organized by theme and really need to make a guide of some kind to avoid buying duplicates.

rubber stamps-in small sterilite 3 drawer units but too crowded, possibly need another unit and also need to be in a guide

inks and adhesives: need some kind of better organization they are in several places right now

stickers and chipboard and misc embellies: needs work!

lots of miscellaneous page protectors, chipboard mini pages, extra containers that I have tried and abandoned and a few projects in progress that need better organization as well!!

I also think I need another shelf or 2 after I get some of these other areas tackled.

Thanks Crisann for doing this one last time and thanks to Wookiemouse for sharing her expertise!!

Cyriaque: Disaster is putting it nicely. I think i am beyond a disaster especially in the scraps departments. I have purged and thrown out POUNDS of scraps because it gets to the point that i dont know where to put them. Because they are not within arms reach. I have to figure out how to sort them in a way that i can see them and use them.

The Pictures well that is a whole other story. HUGE mess.

I use a pencil box like this one,
for the little journaling spots i cut out (when i remember to cut them) It holds LOTS of little cards.

As I am not American or English, I believed that you said : "disaster MEANT putting things nicely", so I was very ashamed because I thought that disaster meant... well, disaster !!
Because it's almost the same word in french (désastre). But after reading your words again and again, I understood, that it is a way to say that this is worse than disaster !

Thanks for the image of your box. I love make my own cardboard boxes and I think I have to make some for me and my stash (I usually offer them)!

exactly I could not think of something worse then a disaster Its really bad. TO the point that sometimes i just dont bother to scrapbook so i dont have to look through the mess. I would love to see your cardboard boxes I think that little box i got for $1.00 or less.

I will post pictures on my blog maybe tomorrow if i have a chance.

I need to hop on this challenge! We moved to a new apartment this summer and although my scrap space got a little bigger than it was before, it is still small and I need to use it more effectively. Some things in my stash are neatly organized but other things are just a big mess.

I discovered scrapbooking in 2002 but didn't do much until a couple of years ago when my niece was born. Since then I've been shopping a lot and now I'm starting to scrap a lot too and getting the hang of it.

I have known for a long time that my lack of organization is a problem. I have tried many times to organize better. I still need a lot of help.

What currently works for me:
My punch storage is good. I do not have a ton of punches so they are stored in an over the door shoe rack with clear pouches. I got this at Walmart for about $6 and I like being able to turn and see everything available. Especially nice now while I use so many edge punches on my layouts.
My adhesives are stored in one drawer. I only use one liquid, one roller, and my atg so all of my refills are in one place. The atg is kept out on my desk.
My patterned paper storage is the cropper hopper style holders in an IKEA expedit. I need a few more holders and I need to organize the papers, but I like them stored in this way.
My themed embellishments are stored in 12x12 Iris boxes. They are then put on a rack that used to hold toy bins. They fit perfectly.
My buttons are stored by color in a small plastic shelf with bottles. I bought those on clearance for about $3 at Michaels (I have 3- one with buttons and two with assorted stuff).

What doesn't work for me:
Everything else
My small metal embellishments, alphas, solid cs, paint, stamps, inks, idea books, etc. all need work.

I have many containers, bins, and boxes that I have purchased in the last few years that I will be able to use for further organization. I currently have a small childs dresser with three small drawers and six medium drawers that I am debating on keeping. I think I may benefit from replacing it with another expedit.

One of my other challenges is that my room is not closed off. It is an open room to the hallway so it has two walls of its own, a half(low) wall, and shares two walls with the hallway. This is difficult to explain so I am not sure if anyone can understand. This limits my storage options for furniture placement and wall space.
