I am thinking of buying the Epson Picture mate Charm. I see that the ink comes w/the paper, as a package. If you have paper left over, is it like regular photo paper, that could be used in a different photo printer that has a dedicated photo tray or 4 x 6 photos? I have read reviews that the ink usual goes before the paper & most people had paper left over, just wanted to make sure I would still have a use for it.

Thanks!
Tami

I've had 2 different Picture Mates. Loved them and the ease of being able to print out great quality photos quickly when I needed them. However, the ink generally DID run out before the paper.

I tried to use alcohol inks on the glossy photo paper - didn't work at.all!

I sort of think that the ink reacts chemically with the photo paper, and I know that some photo printers use different types of inks. So that would make me think that you'd need to use your paper in another printer that was using the same photo ink process.

I DO remember using some leftover Kodak photo paper that I had around from my first photo printer in my Picture Mate. It didn't work at all.

Perhaps a call to Epson would let you know for sure?

I've used other photo paper in my picturemate, and picturemate paper in other printers, no problems.

Sure you'll have a use for it, just keep printing your pics. I like having the extra papers on hand. Just wish I had more ink around too. Nancy

forgot to add I have the picturemate deluxe and love it

You're right photo paper is made to react to the inks, learned that when I took photography in school.
I use epson papers in all my epson printers including an older picturemate.

My older Epson Deluxe PictureMate is still going strong. I almost always run out of paper before ink...so I stock up on extra paper when its on sale (hardly ever it seems lately!).

You guys probably already know this, but you can still print after the printer says it's getting low on ink, and even when it says it's "very low". I usually just keep on printing until the paper is gone and THEN I open a new print pack. I print all my pics on the "fine detail" setting and I haven't noticed any change in quality in the photos printed after either of the low ink warnings come on (even on close inspection). The "low ink" warning comes on pretty consistently when 20 papers are left. The very low ink warning (that is worded such that it sounds like you need to stop printing) comes on at some point after that. I've gone through about 10 print packs since getting my Charm and I always stretch the ink the match the paper. I always get the 100 packs, though, so it might be different with the 150 packs.
