why on earth are buttons so expensive? the super fancy ones that i of course need with every fiber of my being are always about $5 for like, 8-10 buttons, which is eek! and even those little bags o' buttons are pretty plain and about $6 or %7!

i guess the key is finding them at garage sales and such, but i love them so and it's hard not to buy them!

is the process of making buttons that difficult?

Next time you stop at a garage sale or hit a thrift shop with a 'great' sale spend some time browsing through the clothes with an eye on the buttons. Our Goodwill has one day a week when a certain color tag is about $1.00 and I have found some really great buttons on some of those 'not' so great items

Why are they so $$$? because they have found we will pay it. I only buy at the fabric stores with coupons and sales, like when 'notions' are 50% at Joannes.

If you have a scrap buddy you can split the cost as there are usually more than 1 or 2 fancies per card.

Buttons got really expensive a few years ago. It's not just scrapbooking buttons, but buttons for sewing, too. Patterns and other sewing related products are also extremely expensive now. Sewing has become a luxury, instead of a way to save money or be practical.

I know what you mean! I really like a lot of the fancy buttons that coordinate with the lines, but I refused to spend 4 or 5 bucks for just a few buttons.

I've also had some good luck at thrift stores to find lots of buttons for cheap. I've also found a lot of my buttons at Tuesday Morning.

Definitely! Just this past weekend, JoAnn's had buttons at 50% off, something they do frequently throughout the year. I have so many buttons, I keep them organized in a fishing box.

I agree.

Although, I still buy the cute expensive buttons. Can't help it, the MME buttons call to me.

There is a great sale for the next few hours on the Doodlebug ones... I don't know if it's against TOU to mention who it is. But it's a site that does "steals" twice a day and they are divided into a scrapbook site, baby site, and kid site.

I'm a fan on FB, and I'm waiting for DH to get home to see if he'll let me spend the $$ on them

But I definitely just bought a huge baggie of them at Meijer for about $4 a few days ago... In the sewing aisle, not scrapbooking. I'll definitely have to remember the suggestion about the clothes at Goodwill though! What a good idea!

I found some cute ones at Homegoods the other day in their paper/scrap section. Think I paid $1.50 for a package of about 20. You just never know where you will find a good deal these days!
