Cricut doesn't cut svg files - not since PC sued MTC and SCAL.
If you want to cut svg files buy a different brand cutter. Black Cat, Pazzles, Silhouette, Zing, etc are all cutters that WILL cut svg files if you also buy the software they each require.
With cricut you are locked into their cartridge based system. And can only cut items that come on the carts you buy.

If you haven't updated your firmware since the lawsuit you can still cut svg files. Just google svg files and there are lots of sites out there.

This doesn't do any good without an older, non-updated version of MTC or SCAL software that was available before the lawsuits. The newer versions don't work with the Cricut, and buying older versions of MTC or SCAL (even if you can find one) may not work if they were previously loaded onto another computer.
Your best bet is to buy a better cutter. Cricut is NOT the best cutter available, anyway, and it never was. |

As mama nay said, you can't cut SVGs unless you already own a program to do so. I bought SCAL years ago, and it still functions, but SCAL and MTC are no longer available for sale through their developers. Sometimes you see SCAL on ebay, but it tends to be really really expensive.
That said, SCAL still works fine. I have updated and am on the most current firmware, since I use an updated gypsy too, but SCAL was not blocked (most recent version of 2.044) |

Are you saying your Cricut is updated with latest firmware & your SCAL still works? If that's the case I can still use SCAL on my Cricut which would be awesome.

You can also use the eClips from Sizzix with the eCal software to cut SVG files. I just got mine about a month ago and it is 12" wide plus it even cuts chipboard. |

My updated cricut works with my SCAL 2 also
I've been saying that since they banned it, no one ever believes me. I update every time and it works great... Used it like 2 days ago |

Yes, works fine.
I updated my gypsy 2 weeks ago, after not doing an update for over a year. I wanted a bunch of "free cartridges" available, and was happy to get them on the G. When I went to cut with my Expression, it needed an update to communicate with G. Not happy about that, fearful of not having SCAL work. Updated anyway. Initially my SCAL quit (it was version 2.043) but went to CraftEdge and downloaded that last update (v. 2.044) and back to using all my toys!
I am totally current on all my cricut (CCR, gypsy and expression's firmware) and my SCAL works -- was cutting this morning. Just make sure it's 2.044 too! |

I have the Zing, which I absolutely love by the way. My Zing came with Makes the Cut. I just got it in April. I love this machine. I don't miss the cricut one bit. I can do so much more with the Zing than I ever thought about with the cricut. |

Hi, greetings... I just need to confirm what i have just read, i want to give a Cricut Expression to my Mom for Christmas, and have been really bummed about the fact of not being able to use custom svg files when printing, as she loves to work with fun foams and have heard that Cameo is not the best with it.
So if i buy a C Expressions at wallmart and updated it to tehe latest version i can use SCAL wee... it would be awesome ... and in any case would there be a way to downgrade the firmware....?
PLease make my Mom Happy, and me on the way

I have had an expression with the scal for years. I updated my computer and cant register my software to make it work again, without cutting a slash thru the cuts. Im very bummed. |

@Dramzii
NO. The only people who can cut svgs with a Cricut purchased their program before Provo Craft sued the SCAL and MTC.
If you want to cut svg's buy a different cutter.

Yes, I can spell. No, my Kindle can't.
Just my humble opinion. And no, I wasn't being mean.
