I just got a silhouette cameo and love it. I am struggling with a few things thought, and I imagine they are really easy to fix, but I just can't figure out. I used a shape from the library and then added text to the inside of the shape. I did a print and cut and it cut out the letters as well as the shape. I expected it to only cut the shape and not the letters inside. Is there a way to do this?

funny, the exact same question was asked in a danish scrap-forum this afternoon - I will not copy-past the answer as it is in danish
but the advice was
at the icon "cut style" (with the scissor) you choose "no cut"

I hope it was a help for you, I don't have a Cameo of my own but I do "babysit" for my sisters silhouett once in a while...

Yeah, you need to highlight what you typed and select no cut. You can always check what is going to cut by clicking the scissor icon and seeing what is outlined in red.

I've only used my Silhouette Cameo to cut out shapes from their online store. I've welded a few letters together. I haven't gotten much fancier than that.

I tried what everyone just described above. Type letters inside a shape, and do the "No Cut". What would this be used for? Or how do you make the Silhouette print these letters using their little ink pens?

Vicki, you sketch with their pens not print. You can send designs to your printer when you turn on the registration marks and the printer will print. Once it does that, you place it on your mat and the Cameo will cut the shape out for you. You can make labels, journal cards, etc using this feature. I import and trace my digi shapes, print and then use the Cameo to cut them out. So it is like creating your own colored die cut pieces. Hope that makes sense.

Not a representative of the company or anything (just a satisfied student) but you might find the Silhouette classes taught at jessicascprague.com really helpful. I did.

The tutorials at Under a Cherry Tree answered a ton of my questions. They were projects unrelated to mine, but Jin showed how to do so many things in Studio in her videos, especially the Christmas tag video.

If you want to print and cut you need to decide what you want to be cut and what not. Highlight the area you don't want cut and select no cut in cut settings.
I f you are cutting a shape and want the words to be written then you need to do this in two stages. Insert your mat slelect your shape and add "no cut" option, Select the text and chose "cut" but use a pen in the pen holder instead of the blade. Once the text has been written DO NOT UNLOAD your mat leave it as it is and change your cut settings again to cut the shape and no cut for the text. Use the blade this time and then cut the shape.

Hi,

Thank you to everyone for posting some helpful web sites for tutorials.

Cariad12000, thanks for posting clear directions on how to print and cut. I'm going to try it in the near future.
