Nothing like waiting until the last minute! I'm going to a scrapbook retreat this weekend and I need some packing suggestions so I don't forget anything.
About a year ago, I read a post that had a great list of suggested items to bring. I thought I'd bookmarked it, but I can't find it now.
Can anyone help me find it or perhaps we should just start from scratch.
Thanks for your help!

Here is what I take ... YMMV:
kits and/or projects - all the PP, embellishments, and photos chosen ahead of time
lots of cardstock
tool kit
Basic Grey Magnetic Mats (2)
Ott Lite
paper trimmer
sketch binder
tote with punches, circle cutter, and ribbon iron
handful of recent purchases that I'm excited to use - washi tape, journal spots, patterned paper, etc.
Have fun on your retreat! I love them ... I get so much done. |

Here's my system:
For scrapbooking, I gather the pictures I want to scrap. Then I gather the paper I want to use and any embellishments to match. If I have time, I will find a sketch and use that to help gather any paper and embellishments. I put these in a baggie or project folder.
Then I gather all the basic supplies. I guess at any punches I may want and hope that if I need one I don't bring, someone else will have one I can borrow!
For cards, I try to bring just a few stamp sets and color schemes and plan around those. I don't want to pack up all my stamp pads, so it's easier to limit it to one or two color schemes.
It takes me a while to pack. Planning ahead helps so much. If I start early enough, I can even get some titles cut prior to leaving, which helps a lot once I get to the retreat. |

I'm going to a crop Saturday too, and I'm totally unprepared. I'm just gonna do my best to pack and hopefully get something done!
A few things from my experience...
- don't forget your adhesive roller (last time i packed refills & forgot the roller!)
- sticky notes - for jotting down things to remember to do later
- a regular pen - for writing those^ notes
- drinks/snacks - need to stay fueled
- sweater
- chargers
- pre-cut letters or sayings/words
I usually try to plan ahead and pack kits, not so much this time. I at least try to throw pics together with paper, then just take a variety of neutral cardstocks, a few embellies. I usually save stickles and things like glitter to do at home so I don't have to wait for drying.
I have a post about crop planning on my blog where I have some other ideas I learned from attending my first one if you have time to read it!
Good luck!

When I was really young I had a mind like a steel trap, but now its just a seive.
So I make 2 lists. My first list is my project list, or "to do" list. I also include any sketches or inspiration for those projects. And this is most often a running list that I have started a few weeks prior to a crop.
I then make a packing list based on my project list. I usually go to a full weekend crop, so I have my rolling tote, a shoulder tote and 2 Thirty One utility totes. I also bring a couple of Iris containers for finished products.
Basics I always have are my tool caddy, trimmer with blades, tape runner and refills, markers, inks, etc. And sometimes I bring my Cricut, but not too often. I'm not married to it its only a baby bug, and the gals who run the crop have one to use with your own mat.
I also make sure I have other needed items like my iPod and the charger, Advil, my table top Ott lite, extension cord, seat cushion, my favorite iced tea (arizona's Arnie Palmer),and a snack or 2.
I thought I had a bookmark of a thread that had a long comprehensive packing list for crops, but its not in my files. Maybe someone else has it?

I always bring a non- layout project too-- because sometimes I just don't have the attention span in a public place to work on layouts..
so a large stack of photos that need dates put on them
greeting cards that need folding
adding pretty insides to envelopes
Stamping a large stack of stamps onto index cards for my file system
As far as scrapping I always do best if I bring a "project" meaning a travel album or a baby album so that all the papers and embellishments are in the same color family/theme.
Have fun!! |

Just be sure you bring extra adhesive, card stock and patterned paper just in case you need it or change your mind about the paper you chose.
Extension cord is a good idea too. Have fun!!! |

Thanks for the great list Lurking Leeny. I am going to the Scrapbook Generation's weekend retreat in October and your list is excellent. I've copied/pasted into a word document and made adjustments to suit my needs.
It's fabulous!
Thanks again,
Shara

So I make 2 lists. My first list is my project list, or "to do" list. I also include any sketches or inspiration for those projects. And this is most often a running list that I have started a few weeks prior to a crop.
Considering I'm such a list person for everything else in my life, I'm surprised I never have thought of a "project list". I'm doing that for my next retreat as well.
I usually start with page kits and match them to the photos. I find I'm so much more productive if I get most of my decision making done at home. I'll also toss in some sketch books (Allison Davis) and some random magazines. |

I always make sure I have my basics
Scissors
Trimmer
Glue / tape runner
pen/markers
plus whatever else you consider basic must haves.
Then the pictures I want to crop, paper and embellishments for these layouts.
Then I think about what stamps and inks I might want to use and will need, along with punches, and anything special you plan for your layouts, such as embossing powders (bring the heat gun). I try not to take to much stuff I don't need. Last I look around and think about what else I might need for my layouts and grab those things.
I hope a simple thought process helps from bringing more than you need and remember to bring what you will need. | |
