I have a 12 hour crop to go to on Saturday and I am not ready at all. At this late in the game, what would you do to get ready? I have some new pics printed so I at least have that much done!

Pull items you want for the pic so you do not take the kitchen sink. Look for sketches if you like to use them.

I agree, though I'm a kitchen sink person for weekend crops, I'd try to make page kits for just a 12-hour one, and include everything I could think of including some extra options (I usually give myself a couple of choices of paper, alphas, and embellies, along with washi tape and journaling cards or spots).
Then you'll just need adhesive and refill, scissors, trimmer, snacks, headphones, etc. There were a few really good "what to pack for a crop" threads last month.
Have fun! |

This would be when I start to think about packing but usually wait until Friday night...LOL I would pack or put together one or two kits, throw in my regular & favorite tools, some pictures and inspiration.

I'm in your boat--leaving 9 am Friday for a weekend stay. I have some page kits from "last time"--I have no idea WHAT but they're definitnely going! I have the Christmas cards I never finished "last year". Or was that 2010? Well, they're going! Add in a card kit and a mini album kit I have on hand. Then I have an envelope of photos, completely unsorted, from last Christmas. Of course they're going, I'll just grab the Christmas stash of paper, some red and green cs and they're going. I have a multipack of colored 12x12 cs, add some white/black/kraft. I'M GOING! |

My new approach to crops is to plan NOT to finish pages. I take page kits that have patterned paper paired with photos, plus lots of plain card stock for bases. If I have time, I will also pull a sketch in advance. If I don't, I just pack my sketch binders. That does not add too much to my stack of stuff to take.
I can get LOTS of what I call "layout foundations" prepped this way. These are pages where I have paper and photos taped down on cardstock, pages that will need titling, journaling and embellishing later. Take a pad of sticky notes to note anything on the LO that you will need later when you come back to it (title idea, doo dads to add, reprint in a smaller size, etc.)
It lets me be minimal on what I transport, it lets me be very productive, it lets me do work that allows me to be interactive AND it sets me up to get pages finished more easily in the smaller cracks of time I have in real life. Most importantly, it gives me time for the embellishing part to "marinate" in my mind. I have these foundations that I can ponder over and when I sit down to finish them, I have a clearer idea of where I want the story to go and how I want the page to look when finished.
Whatever you do, have fun!! |

Pennyscraps - that is a great idea. I did that at the crop I went to last weekend. When I found myself staring at a layout too long, I just put it away in my album to revisit at a later time. Then I just started another layout. I felt way more productive because I was always working on something and not just staring at a page wondering what to do next. I also included any scraps or paper embellishments in the page protecter so that everything was together.
When I get some free time, I will pull those layouts out again at home and finish them up.
I felt much less stress at this last crop!

I do exactly what Penny does. Walk into the crop with my spinner of tools, a paper cutter and a ton of kits matched with pics. One bag.
I have to spend some time looking at the finished layout to decide how I want my journaling to read because the layout of the pics affects how I present the journaling. Delaying that for home is perfect.
It's also motivating to walk out of a crop with a stack of pages that are 90% done and you know you can wrap up quickly when you get home. It also eliminates bringing the whole house with you when you travel which can make you feel like, "why bother?". |

At a crop I either make a bunch of page kits or do a ton of titles/shapes for pages.
Do you have page kits made for the photos you printed? |

Scoobers and I have cropped together in real life 3 times now and I will attest to the fact that she does not bring very much and that I do bring {a little} more than she does.
BUT, each time I have brought less and less. And a gal HAS to have some punches, right?
I am trying hard to finish up the last 8 doubles I did at my March and June retreats before my two October retreats! The song UNDER PRESSURE does come to mind. |

Well, I have managed to pull together a few matching papers to go with some of the pics, but I am sure I will still bring 'the kitchen sink'!

I've got you beat! I have a crop that starts tomorrow at 0900 and goes to Sunday at 4 PM. I just got my photos sent to Sam's to be printed a few hours ago and I finally just finished packing most of what I need to take with me.
I know I'm going to be a loon in the AM because I'll think of all sorts of things I've forgotten.
