I received mine a couple of weeks ago, then had to go out of town so I haven't been able to play with it too much, but when I did, I love it. My only problem is cutting smaller pieces of paper. For example: if I have a 1" strip, but I need it to be 1/2", how do you get it cut that size? I don't have any markings past the 3/4". Does anyone know what I'm talking about? Also, is your light really bright? You can barely see mine when it's turned on. I thought I had new batteries in it, but maybe they weren't so new, but the light seems almost useless.

Regarding the lights, contact the company ASAP!

Are you 100% sure your covered is fully closed on the battery hatch? Mine are VERY bright and I have one of the first ever made.

On the small cuts, I put a tiny pencil mark on the strip where I want to cut, top and bottom, and line it up on the cut line. Move it over to the full width of the cutter to get these mark spots. Does that makes sense?

Does this help?

Great idea. Never thought of doing that, but that would work. I'm going to try new batteries, and if that doesn't work, I'll contact them. I just wanted to make sure everyone's lights weren't as dim as mine. That battery compartment is sure hard to open though.

The cutting is my most favorite, but that light bar is right up there with the cutting!! The light doesn't show through card stock, have you been cutting only card stock, perhaps??? Dorothy

The light should be bright but it won't show thru dark cardstock, no light will.

Love love love my cutterpillar. if it were a bra I'd say "it feels like I'm not wearing one at all" Its just so light and airy if that makes any seense. Like before, when I used my fiskars, I always had a tiny tiny bit of concern about it moving and then another little bit about pushing hard enough, and another about where exactly was it going to cut which added up to worrying when I cut but now I just cut - no brain required. )

OK, I got some new batteries and now the light is great. Apparently someone put some old, almost dead batteries in with the good ones, so I guess my light wasn't getting enough power. All is good now, and I'm going to mark my smaller cuts. I really do love this cutter, those were my only problems, but they're solved now. Thanks everyone.

And here is my PSA on that one--when you take batteries out of the container to use them, mark the sides with the date via Sharpie. ANY battery with a date on them that are found in a drawer are put in the recycling bin ASAP.

I also had the dim light, but my batteries were new. I read this thread and then checked to make sure the cover was on correctly. Turns out I put the last battery in the wrong way.

Now it's so bright and I love it. I just need to adjust the ruler and I'll be all set.

Just got mine a week ago and am wondering if anyone else has an issue with their grid lines not lining up with the ruler and cutting edge? Mine is off enough so that I can't use the grid as a guide for cutting.

Mine is off too. My ruler doesn't line up with the grid either. My ruler is also not on straight.

I don't have a cutterpillar but on my genesis trimmer, when I need a narrower strip, I do it the opposite way. In other words, if I'm using a 12 x 12 sheet and need a half inch strip, I line it up at the 11-1/2" mark and use the cut off strip. The big part of my paper is on the cutter bed and the small part is what gets cut off.

Wash: "A man walks down the street in that hat, people know he's not afraid of anything."
Jayne: "Damn straight."

To the gals that are having problems cutting straight, there is another post on here about that. Apparently Cutterpillar sent out directions on how to fix the problem.
Need to get mine out to see if it cuts straight.

You think you pay that much for a cutter, and you could just take it out and have it cut straight.
