Would anyone in the southern Ontario / Niagara area like to get together for a Pea Gathering Crop?

I thought we could see about renting the room at Michael's in St Catharines or Niagara Falls or just meeting up at one if their scheduled 5$ crop nights?

I am open to other ideas, too!

Who would like to meet up and crop?

I'd love to get together...but that's a little far for me; St. Catherines is a solid 1 1/2 hours, Niagara 2 hours

St. Catharine wouldn't be as bad -about 1.5 hours.

Sarah, where are you from? Niagara Falls is only about 15-20 minutes past St. Catharines.

Kirsten, where are you located now?
Maybe someone could organize a more central crop?

What about a weekend type crop some time some where? There are places that offer "private" scrapbooking weekends. Just a thought.

I am in Niagara. A friend of mine does retreats and crops at the Old Stone Inn. It has fine dining and is very reasonable. She does two retreats a year May and Nov. The Nov. one is this coming Fri-Sun but it is full. It is reasonable 320.00 per person double occupancy, includes 2 dinners, 2 lunches and 2 breakfasts, a 6 ft table, a welcome gift, a 12 x 12 album for example, prizes ( 2 cameos this time around) onsite shopping usually herself, a CTMH vendor and sometimes a Creative Memories. Her day crops and I am not sure if she will have one now until the new year are around 35.00 and include lunch.

The crop area at Michaels in the Falls you couldn't swing a cat. They don't have a separate room that I know of I have only seen them with tables set up in an area of the store itself. The St. Catharines location might but I don't like the amount of space you get.

Hmmm... so, so far there are a couple of Peas on board! Yay!
And some are pretty far away.
And some Peas want a whole weekend, and there are concerns about space.

I can't do a weekend any time soon. I think it would be fun, it just isn't a good option for my family right now. If any Peas arrange a weekend, I want to hear all about it, though!!

We had my daughter's birthday party in the craft room in the St. Catharines Michael's store. While it is not cavernous, I didn't think it would be too cramped for a small crop. I seem to recall there were 6 or maybe 8 banquet tables arranged in a 2x3 or 2x4 rectangle in the centre of the room.

Are there other reasonable spaces we would be able to crop at for the day?

I only mentioned the weekend idea as thought for the future, perhaps late winter early spring.

What does it cost to rent the Michaels craft room? Some churches have rooms/areas that people use for meetings and such perhaps that could be an option.

I can manage a day and not a whole weekend. I vote that you pick a spot that is best for the majority and those of us who are outliers and decide if it works! No worries!

I'm too far from that neck of the woods to come, but thought I'd mention that some Superstore locations (i.e. Loblaws) have a room that can be booked for community use. You might want to look into that.

Great idea to get together. Too far for me - I'm in the GTA.

I tried to sign up for something in town (Mississauga) at Scrapbook Queens, but none of their crop dates from now to Christmas fit my schedule. I even have a whole craft room at home and still no time to craft.

Please continue to post get togethers. You never know if there are more people who might be able to make it one day.

I could swing something in Niagara. I'm in Rochester, NY so that would be about 1 1/2 hours for me.

I had no idea the Memory Keeper was still in business. I lived in Dundas for 10+ years and quite a while ago tried to find it, and it wasn't where I thought it was, so I never looked for it again!

I will find out about the cost of renting some space.

I did notice that Buffalo Stamps and Stuff is having an all day crop in one of the empty store spaces a few doors down in the strip mall they are located in. 35$ for the full day, includes a make-and-take, and a small goodie bag. That would be another fun option, sometime, for those of us closer to that side of things!

The Arts and Crafts House looks nice, perhaps a future weekend crop.

I am open to anything really even Buffalo as long as it fits into my schedule I will be there, this time of year just gets busier and busier as the holidays get closer.

Hopefully it will work out as something we can do on a regular basis

scrapninny -- you can use the scrap area at Scrapbook Queens for free when it's not in use for a crop. Why not check their calendar and see what's happening there on the dates you're available, and if there's nothing going on, go ahead and get something started!

I'm from Hamilton and the owner of The Memory Keeper actually attends my Church. I'm a card maker so I don't crop but if you would like more information about using her store as a meeting area I can ask her for you.

Thank-you, newlaxfan2. That is the place I was referring to. I want to scrap with others, though, so I was checking out their scheduled crops. (I'm a completely inept event organizer, myself.) I will keep my eye on their schedule (and you guys!)

The Art House looks luxurious! My group of 6 did our first self-made retreat outside of Sarnia, Ontario in a house for rent there on the St. Clair river. It worked out to $170 per person for 2 nights for: accomodations, gas, and food, but we had to cook for ourselves. Still, $85/night per person can't be beat! (Loooong drive for us though. Brantford would be way better!)

SN -- I've gone there the last two Sundays with friends. We are trying to make the Sundays a regular thing. They're open from noon to 5 pm. Won't be doing it this Sunday (Remembrance Day) and I won't be there the following Sunday either (am out of town). Should be there the Sunday after that though! Any/all of you are welcome to join us! PM me though to let me know to expect you.

I spoke to Sheila this morning and she was very open to allowing her store as a gathering place for the peas. If you are interested in pursuing this then I will need a little more info (i.e. date, time, how long you need the space for, number of people, will you need equipment or just the space, etc.) Depending on what your requirements are, she may be willing to let you use it for free. I'll watch this thread for a response with more info I can take to her.

This is what Sheila emailed me ... things she needs answers for if you plan to pursue this idea.

Hi Sharon. Would it be on a Saturday or during the week? Would it just be during store hours or would you want to start earlier / end later? I'm just trying to determine if there would be any additional requirements on our part. Of not, then you could use the space for free. I would have to know the date ahead of time so that we don't book anything that day. If the group was interested in having classes or make and takes avalable to them while they were here, we could do that to, but then there would be a charge.
