Can someone tell me the appeal of these? Non-snarky, I really want to know. Why does it matter what someone else got from the store? Especially if they're not in your town, or even your country? |

Nosiness. Personally, I don't like the word 'haul' in conjunction with it. It sounds so greedy. |

Honestly, I watch them to see product IRL and not just the computer images provided by scrapbook stores... When shopping online, a lot of things aren't shown IRL.
For example, if you look at the "images" on 2 peas for things like the new enamel dots, the color in that generated image is nowhere near the color that arrives.
Or, it could be good ole' nosiness |

Aeryn, one benefit of haul videos for me personally is that I've changed my mind about many a product (sometimes to a must-have, other times to an "Ugh." simply by getting to see a YouTuber handle the products IRL, show the colors in different lighting, etc.
I used to be a bit perplexed by them, too, but now I see them as another way to scrutinize crafty items before forking over $$.

I have a Youtube channel and have never done a haul video.
I buy most of my product when we go away on a trip. Believe me I buy ALOT of stuff when we go away, lol.
I feel like I would be bragging or showing off because I buy so much stuff.
I don't feel this way about others who do these videos, just if I was to do them. Weird I know. But maybe its because of the amount of stuff I buy.
I do videos of the RAKs I receive, but have been doing less of them for the same reason.
I like to go on YouTube to watch what others are creating, not what they are purchasing. Seems to be less creating and more buying lately, lol.

That's kinda how I see it too, Tracy. A bit bragging (I also buy in big lots as it's not easy to get to even a M's or J's) and I'd rather see what someone is creating with what they've bought. I can see a product better for real life application when someone is using it, not when they're just filming the package for a second. Like with Glitter Girl/Shimelle and her videos. I've seen product I would have passed by in the store, but in a practical application I get a better feel for what a product is and if I'd use it or not.
I like the people that answered honestly with "nosiness", hehe. I get that from participating in What's on Your Workdesk Wednesday. (even then, I try to provide a finished product when I post my desk so it's not just a pile of stuff) |

Sometimes I just gape when I look at the haul videos. What makes me shake my head is when some of them show their scrap spaces and they have stacks and stacks and stacks of paper. I couldn't even begin to know what I had with that much, and the idea of bringing in new paper would just overwhelm me.
That being said, I like to see what people are buying. Sometimes I get a jolt of creativity seeing what they got. |

I actually just went looking for a haul video for the new Hello Kitty stuff, so I could see what it all looked like. Someone has a new video with all the pieces & they went through each paper pad & the date stamp etc. That is a situation I go looking for a haul video! |

I like haul videos to see product and get opinions. I started making a few of my own on my channel, just to pay it forward a bit. I have watched so many haul vids, thought I would make some. |

I love haul videos so I can see product lines, what papers are in packs, etc. especially since I do quite a bit of my shopping online it is nice to see the products "IRL" before I order. I also find it easier to understand the size and dimension of embellishments when I see them filmed. |

I was wondering the same thing. The answers about seeing certain products IRL and not a computer image makes sense. |

Like others have said, I like to see what the product looks like IRL. You don't always get a sense of what things look like until you actually see the product. It gives me a better idea of sizes, colors, etc. I also love when people flip through the collections to see everything in more detail.
I also really like seeing what people find at TJ Maxx and Marshalls, etc. Mine are usually a little behind so when I start seeing hauls of people with their $1.49 thickers, I know it's time to stop by mine in a couple days to score some for myself! you just can't beat $1.49 for Thickers, even when the chipboard ones are falling off the packaging! |

Yes, you can beat $1.49 for Thickers. They're a buck at my local Big Lots!
I always wondered the attraction to haul videos as well. It seemed kind of weird to me. But now with the explanation of seeing the products in "real life" as it were, it makes sense and I might check out a few myself. Thanks!

I love haul vids, I do them on my channel too. I dont feel that the ppl that are doing them are bragging, they are just wanting to share new items or things that were a great deal or just do it because they love that part of scrapbooking. Why do some feel they need to judge why ppl do a haul vid if you dont like them then move on to the next video, just sayin'.
I especially wonder at the people that give opinions on youtube vids but have never made a video lol.

I don't know if anyone has already said this but I like to watch the haul videos for the "contact high" When I bring in a haul or recieve my HSN boxes after a all day show, I get that excited feeling like a child feels about Christmas. I can't afford to recreate that feeling very often so when I watch the videos I am enjoying the spree vicariously. |

sometimes I watch them; it's kind of fascinating.
I don't really understand the antipathy towards them though; they are pretty clearly titled as Haul videos, so don't watch em if you don't want to. Nobody could make me watch golf or basketball, but I don't give a crap who else does.

Nobody said we were being FORCED to watch them, jeez.
Yes, they're labelled clearly and no, I don't bother to watch them. Doesn't stop me from wondering about the appeal of them. I don't get the appeal of football or golf either. |
