Seeing those cute MME enamel dots everywhere had me looking them up, & I think they're kind of pricey, esp. for those of us who like to have every color of every embellie. Figured there must be a way to make my own & started playing.

I made dots of various sizes using Ranger's Inkssentials White Enamel Accents on release paper (the slick backing paper from glue dots or other self-adhesive items). Let them dry thoroughly, then experimented with different coloring agents. A Sharpie didn't work very well (you could see the pen lines), but an American Crafts Galaxie Marker worked great, as did a Slick Writer! I'm happy that I can make them in the colors I want, as I need them.

Of course, they're not self-adhesive, but if there's one thing I've got around here, it's adhesive. Hope this helps somebody out.

Uploaded pictures & how to info to Projects in my gallery, here
The alcohol inks appear to give the smoothest finish, although as prior poster stated, the colors aren't quite as vibrant. "Red Pepper" was used in the sample.

This is soooooo spooky I was just looking at those dots and thinking ' I bet if I had some of that ranger enamel stuff I could make my own '.

Thanks for reading my mind and letting me know it was a good idea

I just took a test photo, but it wouldn't be much help. Since it was an experiment, I didn't want to be wasteful so I made them small, & I colored them dark purple & dark blue to see how well the color would go on over the white. Sorry, I wasn't thinking about pics when I did it. I could make some more & try to post a photo tomorrow, or if anybody else wants to try?

Any idea how Copics would work coloring these?

I don't have any Copic markers--would a reasonable test approximation be to dab one with alcohol ink? I'd be glad to try that if that would answer the question for you.

Copics do work on the glossy accents. I've coloured them before. It's not as vibrant as the enamel dots you buy however.
My difficulty in making enamel dots has been getting that smooth even look!

Do you mean in the enamel or the color? On the release paper, using a round, swirling motion seems to work. For the color, the alcohol inks seem to give the smoothest look (maybe because it was dabbed rather than "written" onto the surface?).

I watched a vid on youtube by tmeital where she used nail polish, I have not tried this yet. But this is the first time I have ever seen that done. Pretty cool if it works!
