I'm just starting Project Life. Is there a big advantage to having the special page protectors? Will I be fine if I just stick the photo and journal cards to a 12x12 piece of cardstock and put them in a regular page protector?

Personally, I would not be happy with this in my book unless everything on one page went together. I use different papers for each entry most of the time. The separation of the pockets makes that work for me. I don't know if you could sew your pockets into your page protectors but that might be an idea. I might try that, lol. |

Project Life is about simplicity -- stick it in the pockets and go. Not sure why you'd want to do it that way, especially when you can get 60 double-sided pocket pages for 25.00, and cardstock averages, what, 80 cents a sheet? If you were doing a year's worth of photos, even if you stuck pictures to both sides of the cardstock, that's over $40 worth of cardstock by my calculations....

I would miss out on the opportunities to be able to have a pocket for the little cheesy "ephemera" of life so to have the pockets is what makes Project Life for me.
I think getting the spacing right on a 12x12 would be more of a pain in the butt, not to mention the cost said by the above poster... |

Lining stuff up without the pockets would be a total pain. Unless you were planning to do a scrapbook page that incorporated your pics for the week. That is different. |

Card stock for a year would make that one heavy album.

I read a blog post-sorry, can't remember who- who does it this way. Maybe try a google search for PL with 12x12 PPs, and see what comes up. I personally like to use AC page protectors w/ 4x6 pockets, and I do PL on a monthly, not weekly, basis. However, I think you should do whatever format you personally like. Try it for a month or so, and then decide.

One advantage to the pocket pages is that you don't need adhesive. Just slip your photo in the pocket, and you're done!
I've been able to keep up with PL easier bc when I get the photo, the only step I need to complete is to put it in the page protector. Nothing extra needed.
I hope that helps! |

As others have said, the divided page protectors are meant to make the process very simple. Also, I like the flexibility of moving things around on a page. |

Where did you find protectors for $25? The best I have found is $30 and I need to place an order.

They were $25, Becky just increased the price on them. I'm betting the previous pea didn't realize that. |

I am planning on doing my project life in 2013 without the page protectors. I don't like the look of divided protectors. I don't see how it would be any faster than just gluing elements to piece of cardstock. And I already own adhesive...why not use it?

I saw it w/o the divided page protector. I freaked. Maybe lack of separation anxiety. FOR ME, it's hard to follow the page. Once you are used to the separate photo pockets, it's hard to go back.
I wouldn't be a PL groupie if I hadn't done everything else in the scrapbook world in 15 years of scrapbooking. I wouldn't have been ready for it. |
Cheers from Southeast Sunny Florida!

For me it is the separation I find unattractive. Divided page protectors are just like what is in a regular photo album. I scrapbook so I can use something more attractive than that.
I think you can do Project Life without the divided protectors...it is the photos and the memories that make the project. |

IMO - do whatever is easiest for you. I personally don't care for the divided page protectors, because somewhere I will have a vertical photo I want to use and not have the right protector.
I think using a piece of CS and whatever you have is easiest and most cost effective.
