It seems it becomes ever more the overlooked holiday, and that is probably because my DH Is in retail and we are ourselves migrating into Christmas tomorrow. We *have to* put up our Christmas tree tomorrow, or basically miss an opportunity to have our "family tree party" that we always have, as both boys are working part-time in retail now, too.

ANYWAY, the point I'm at is how does Thanksgiving remain special to you? Do you do a Thanksgiving book? Do you scrap the people? Do you do a layout or two of it each year? Any favorite traditions?

Thanksgiving is MY favorite holiday, but it seems to be losing it's place in the world....and I'm as guilty about it as the next person. {Although I am NOT joining the shopping crowds Thursday night! I refuse!}

Is there something you are doing this year - or have done - to make it special and record the memory?

If I'm hosting, I tend to do more layouts. I take photos of our favorite foods, the menu, table setting, and of course the peeps. I also love to take pics of things we do after dinner: football, board games, etc.

I was thinking that next year I may do a fall album ending with Thanksgiving just like I do my December album.

It may or may not be just a page in my reg. album. It is just my DH, kids and I every year. So sometimes, it just feels like any other Thursday, only I make a bigger meal.

Last year--I did our first thanksgiving meal at our "new" home (long story) so i took pictures of me preparing the foods, finished foods, foods on table, us eating it and afterward... I also did layout of what I'm thankful for for each kids, which I need to finish I draft it but didn't' get a chance to put it together. This year seem to be a difficult time as I'm just not into the spirit per say.. not sure why.. but as it's getting closer to day--i know i'm still taking picture of getting the foods ready which I'm preparing, it is my little guy's first turkey day plus us eating it and what we do afterward... it seems that no one want to get together anymore as much... I can tell times has changes since i was little girl when we use to get together as family.

I only make one page every year.

I don't have a lot of fall papers. For some reason I don't take a lot of photos then and the patterned paper selection isn't as good as other times of year.

I agree with you here. I hoard up what is released that I DO like because it does seem every year like a limited offering....

I do a few layouts and they go in my holiday album. Usually it ends up about 2-4 pages it just depends. Like this year it's my holiday to work so if we have a need for me on my unit I will have to go in at 3p to 11p so if I work no one takes pictures lol. Will have to pile in the photos before going to work.

I only make one page every year.

And it's usually mostly of the food I may have one picture with the kids & the turkey, but that's only if I remember to take it.

I take photos of me and my family at my parents house eating our first dinner and all the festivities there. Then we are whisked away to my sil house where we eat again and enjoy more festivities. I take photos there. I may scrap about the busy day and how different the two places are. My parents is a small gathering and my sil feeds about 150 people thru the day. It is fun but exhausting.

Since I consider our Christmas starts with Black Friday, and since Black Friday started on Thanksgiving Day last year, I started my December Daily with a Thanksgiving layout. I usually just take photos of everyone around the table enjoying the feast. But last year I added photos of scouring the sales ads and making lists too.

When I host, I have everyone write what they are thankful for and do a layout. I also do a family photo and maybe another that focuses on the food and our family activities that day.

I've never been an event/holiday scrapper, I'm a "photo" scrapper. My albums make no sense whatsoever.

That said, I'm doing a DD style album this year that will include Thanksgiving and New Year's.

I personally LOVE seeing Christmas stuff in the stores in October. My DH is in retail also and called me absolutely giddy the other day because they started playing Christmas music.

Thanksgiving is not forgotten or overlooked in this house, it's a magical day. Starting to dig out the Christmas decorations is part of what makes it so memorable and fun for us.

Thanksgiving is not a holiday I stress about too much. One year I did a
Y"Things I'm Thankful For." Another year led to a "genealogy" LO of how my SIL was related to every one there. Most years, it's just a few photos of whatever family I am with having fun together. Last year I had two Thanksgivings, one the Sunday before and one actually on Thanksgiving day, and I only bothered taking photos at the first one.

And I hardly ever use traditional Thanksgiving colors. Last year, not at all because the focus was on three young boys there more than the holiday itself. Other years, because somebody was wearing pink (MIL or grandniece)I did pink and gold or pink and brown.

Ugh. I had a moment where I thought about doing a whole Thanksgiving album, as we have a bunch of relatives coming in this year.

I have thought better of it. Just what I need -- regular albums+travel albums+PL+DD+Thanksgiving?

2013 is going to be about streamlining for me.

It is my favorite holiday and I never remember to get photos. I am so busy getting the food ready and making sure everyone has what they need that I forget to stop and take photos. I did take photos a few years ago of the family playing rock band but that was just a few pictures after dinner. I so need to make sure to take a few pictures this year. I think I made a layout that year but that has been the only one - this will be our 17th Thanksgiving being hosted at our house. I think I need to work harder to remember to get photos as it may be the last Thanksgiving for at least one family member.

Thanksgiving used to be a favorite holiday for me. But, as the years have gone by, it has fallen into that "holiday blitz", trapped between Halloween and Christmas.

I still do a traditional Thanksgiving LO, with the table, the family together, blah blah... but, its gone from a two page spread to a one-page blurb the past few years.

Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday because we are all together and it is none of the buying, buying, buying. (I did spend a lot of years working in a grocery store and picking up all those turkeys - remember when the checkers did the work?- what a pain!)

Every part of the family gets a family picture in front of our stone fireplace. I also take food pictures and pictures of everyone around the table. (That also helps me remember who is coming to our house "first" and who is coming later every year.)

This year in my Project Life the photo of every day in November is something or someone I am thankful for instead of what went on that day.

Thanksgiving is a day of gathering for us. We often take a family photo and if it is good that is the one we use for our Christmas card. We also celebrate 3 birthdays. This year my DH's falls right on Thanksgiving Day.

I, too, refuse to shop that day.....if Thanksgiving is all abot what we are THANKFUL for I find it ironic that society says we have to buy more stuff that day.

I'm hit or miss with Black Friday. Last year we shopped as a family with no agenda. We people watched and got some good deals but it was mellow and fun. I actually made an entire album of last years 3 days weekend. Family, the meal, chopping and sites.

The sad thing is I usually forget to take pictures! so I'm lucky if I end up with 1 LO

I love Thanksgiving but it is probably the only holiday I don't take any pictures. I have some from several years ago when we used to go to my brothers. But now I think I am just too busy. I go get my 90 year old dad on Wednesday, I work my tail off because we go have brunch with my hubbys family on thanksgiving morning.then my dh and 3dd's go to the Lions game and I stay and visit for just a little while then I have to get home to get the turkey in the oven. Then when they get home from the game, we eat. Hubby does help me clean up afterwards. It is just a lot because I do almost everything myself. Last year I went shopping at midnight and will never do that again. I used to love getting up early and sneaking out the door, but with the stores opening up on thanksgiving they are ruining all the fun. I especially feel bad for the workers who miss out on family time.

Hopefully better than I did last year (or the year before that!) I've recently realized that I haven't been taking pics the way I should. Ever since I got an iPhone, I take most of my photos on it. I'm on a mission to find my charger/cord thingy to my dslr and take great photos this year!!

PS - Just to add, I recently moved, and thus can't locate my charger! Usually I'm not quite this disorganized and lame!

in retail, it's not mandatory, it's voluntary. Usually for extra pay. And if they happen to be Jehovah's they don't miss out anyway because they don't celebrate national holidays.

ETA: I do agree it's kind of sad though that stores aren't staying closed the entire holiday.

I don't know that this is true at every store/chain.....Maybe at lower level positions? And in management positions, you don't get to say no, ever.

One thing we do on Thanksgiving is take a pre-dinner family photo. There is a nice park nearby and we run over there and get our pictures done while the casseroles finish up in the oven. And it's great to do this before the old folks and the little folks eat.

well, if you don't have any volunteers to run the registers, the manager wouldn't have anything to manage.

I don't think anyone has had to issue mandatory hours for Thanksgiving day because some people are willing to take the shift for the holiday pay and sometimes extra bonus, too.

Mine is pretty repetitive. The basic photo list is for photos of the cooking process, photos of everyone gathered around the table, some snaps of the food and table decor, post meal game playing/chilling.

I usually end up with 4-8 photos that are good representation of the day and make a two page spread using those.

Nope. Not always. I work somewhere where it's mandatory to work any hours given from thanksgiving through Sunday.

If you don't work you're fired.

Several people were fired last year on thanksgiving

well, that is a shame. Usually don't hear about mandatory hours. My sister works for WM and last I knew I think even they were voluntary. But we're on the outs right now so I can't ask and confirm. I know there's a large blackout area to take any days off in retail though.

If people want to volunteer, whatever. But to make it mandatory to work on a big holiday in retail is just not right.

Of course, greedy consumers don't help.

One year my LO was "What's your Tx'g Chore?" - who set the table, who peeled the potatoes, who stuffed the turkey.

And the year we used the boxed dinner from our local grocery the LO was "Tx'g in a Box."

Many times it's simply a group photo scrapped in autumn/Tx'g papers. I like group photos because you never know who may not be around next year.

Every Thanksgiving, I do a layout for each of my kids albums with a good picture of them taken on the holiday, and letter telling them why I am thankful for them that year.

If I get a few good pictures, I may also do a what-we-did/who-was-there type layout, but that is not as consistent.

Ohhh, I like this idea!

We usually go around the table & say one thing that we are thankful for. One year I took pictures of each person when it was their turn and scrapped it with their comment.

One year we all wrote it on a cardstock "leaf" die cut & I scrapped that w/ event/food photos.

One year I forgot to take photos so I came up with pictures after the fact of what each of us was thankful for.

And one year I took photos of what was unique or "us" at Thanksgiving: Our "I am Thankful Wall", the bottles of sparkling apple cider, the mandatory viewing of The Princess Bride DVD that got switched out for a Shirley Temple princess DVD by my BIL's BIL, and my "family secret" turkey gravy recipe.

I'm writing on a calendar one thing that I'm thankful for each day of November. I'm then going to turn that calendar page into a layout in December. I'm sure it's been done before, but this is the first time I'm doing it. It's so funny that my sons are fighting over which one ended up on the calendar first.

I normally take pictures of familiy and the food each year and do a Thanksgiving double pay layout and will probably do that again this year also.

I do like the idea of having everyone write down what they are thankful for and doing a layout around those.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

It's been five years since I last worked WM. They started with volunteers but they filled in with mandatory if there weren't enough to volunteer. We never had enough to do a completely voluntary staffing.

This post should not be taken as a WM bash. I enjoyed working for them and would go back to work with them if I needed to. It is physically, mentally and emotionally hard work. I prefer my current desk job for that reason. WM was good to me though. Retail is HARD work for any company.

I usually do a 2 page LO. We usually go out to a buffet with my ILs and one or two of their family friends. Then we go back to their house girls play board games while guys watch football. I usually take pictures of everyone that was there. One year I took photos of everyone napping

This year I am going out to my sister's farm for the weekend. I will probably have several LO of fun things we do. My parents and my brother's family will be there, too. My 20 yo niece took 500 pictures at my DD's grad party. I'm sure she will be taking tons of photos.

Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday! Love to eat! I don't really scrap it too much...we don't do anything special...no guests, no organized sit down meal. I cook a heap of food, and we eat off of it all day, in between vegging out. But when I do manage to remember to snap some photos...it is of the food and of my family partaking in the food. I just do a layout or two.

I have always wanted to do a LO or two showing all the fun we have, and the people we spend time with. I never manage to get pictures, though! I am always busy cooking, cleaning up, and making sure everyone has everything. I never manage to get pictures. I decided this year that I will make a LO this year, even if it doesn't have any photos. I can still document the info (even though it would be better with pics). I also am going to try to get my husband to snap some photos. Usually though, I will be insanely busy starting tomorrow until late Wednesday night. So, at least I will get a LO. Pics TBD.

Along with everyones placecard, I give them a small card for them to write what they are thankful for. I then take a picture of everyone at dinner and make a mini with their photo and their thankful card. I've done this for several years, and it's fun to look back at the books. I display them prominently on Thanksgiving Day for everyone to look through.

I think fall might actually be my favorite time to scrap. I love the patterns and colors that come out his time of year.

I can't think of an actual Thanksgiving day layout I have ever made...most are more along the lines of "what I'm thankful for" type layouts.

I did use scrappy supplies to make Thanksgiving place cards that were on the Two Peas blog and I'm stealing one to put in my "30 days of thankfulness" mini
