Ok, this is gonna sound really silly but...
I am a newbie to this December Daily thing. I want to make an album this year. It's been a few years since I've had my scrapping hat on, so this should be interesting to say the least.
I know Ali Edwards kind of "started" this craze but... are there rules? Are there things you *should* include in your album? Is there like a list of things you should include in any good album? Does anyone have a list of anything that they are including in their own album that you're willing to share?

i don't think there's a list, but here are my 1st 15 days:
decorating the tree
making ornaments
dear santa
hanging stockings
making gifts
happy birthday daddy (because his birthday is on the 7th)
make candy sleighs
family christmas photo page goes here..
happy birthday great grandma (another december birthday we celebrate)
santa beard countdown to christmas page
happy birthday shelby (our last birthday for the month not counting jesus')
wrapping gifts the kids will give to each other.
cherpumple-- something i am doing for an ornament exchange will include recipe
and day 15 is the ornament exchange...
i'll come up with 16-25 tomorrow or the next day... these are just some of our traditions... i do know on the 24th, it will be a page about tracking santa with norad tracks santa... and 25th will have a pic of the girls with all of their presents...
hope this helps |

ABSOLUTELY no rules!!!! Even Ali Edwards says to adapt the project to make it work for you.
I don't write up a list beforehand, I just pick out the favourite thing or two from that day that I want to record. And it's not all Christmas related either.
I think my favourite part of doing this album is the extra awareness it brings of all those wonderful December moments. Personally, if I had it all planned out they'd probably get ignored.

they look GREAT! and really, someone said my list made them tired, it's just the normal hustle and bustle of our holidays... if i make the list, it organizes me a little more... we have a gift exchange on the 22nd, so that will be in there too LOL! i will likely do a calendar page as the very first page though, so I can document each day's doings that way as well this project will be something we can look back year after year to see what was gotten, what was wished for. what santa deccided to bring... what new ornaments we got and the like. i can't wait for a year or two to pass and see the girls looking at those memories! <3 I might even (after the holidays) make an additional for each of the grandparents for a LATE christmas gift. so they can enjoy our year too |

Like the other posters said no rules. You make it your own. And if you want to make a list to help you organize go for it. But think what holiday traditions you have in your family that are important....don't feel you have use a list built for the masses. Make it personal. You are the ONLY one who really determines if your DD is good.
That's what I love about this project-seeing everyone else's pages and they choose to document and how they do it.
The only "list" I made for this year is I stuck a post-it in for each day listing what our advent calendar activity was for the day, so I make sure I include at least one photo from that. But the rest I wing it and its not always holiday related photos.
Good luck with however you decide to take on this project!!! I am so excited for December to start so I can start filling my album. |
I am a project lifer. That's why I am taking so many pictures.....

me too! i can't wait and i finally got the last of it all listed! can't wait for my paper to get here so i can finally get the pages all built. here's the last of the list: i switched day 13 and 17th. i take the girls shopping, so want to include that... it's fun to see what they pick for each of their family members and that will be day 13 in the book. then we have madison's list, wrapping gifts, seeing lights around town (this is a favorite tradition of ours), mackenzie's list, christmas movie night, walk through nativity (another tradition we do every year), our gift exchange with our friends, making cookies, tracking santa with norad (title will be, "Where in the world is Santa?", and finally our we got page.
this is gonna be SO much fun! |

Thanks for asking this question! I've been scrapping for years, and this is my first year doing a DD. I'm a little hung up technical stuff... what size, page protectors or no?, transparencies between each day?
Thanks for sharing your links, Delanie and Tanya! great info and pics!

This will be my 5th year doing a December daily. I don't follow any set of rules and each year I adapt the project to fit our life. That being said there have been some consistencies in the previous 4 that I will continue with for this year. Those include:
First snow
St. Nick's day
The story of this ornament (I fill this in on a day when we may not have anything else going on)
Letters to Santa
Like many of you have talked about, it's great fun to be able to look back at each year. My kids (10,5 and 2) love to compare each years album. Looking at how much they've grown, the first snowfall comparison etc. etc.
This was a project I swore I would only do once and because my kids love it so much it has become a great holiday tradition for our entire family! It wouldn't feel like Christmas without it!
Another great thing to do in years to come is to read last years entry's and bedtime stories throughout the month.

Susie, so many people do December Daily, and almost every album is completely different. This year Ali Edwards is doing a 4x6 album. Last year she did 6x8. That's what I did last year, and again this year.
Regarding size, you might consider if you want this album to be a snapshot, or your entire December scrapbooking? Do you want one page per day, or a spread? small photos, or large? Do you prefer working with a square shape, or rectangular?
For me, 6x8 is big enough to include multiple photos a day, or just one.
I will use a mix of page protectors, envelopes, divided page protectors and cardstock pages. 25 pages is a lot, so i like to mix it up to stay interested.

Thank you guys SO much! I love everyone's ideas and input.
I just ordered a 6x8 "Snap" album? I am going to try that format this year and see how it goes. I can't wait to get all my goodies and get it all laid out! I think I'll be even more excited to share everything once I get working on it. |

I'm with others that said NO RULES! Last year was my first year, and I loved it! I've got a page linking all my December Daily posts if you want to take a peek. It tells you what I focused on each day, which is a little like a list. But I didn't crate the list ahead of time, I just went with the story that stood out to me that day. Hope it helps!
Oh, also, there is a December Daily Podcast done by Melissa at Digital Scrapbooking HQ that has some interesting twists on how to do DD. |

I start by looking at my calendar to see what holiday stuff is already programmed, and then browse the local paper for additional free or low cost events to add as time allows. Another thing I'm hoping to add more of this year are memories of holidays past.
I think there have also been discussions of December Daily on the Paperclipping Roundtable and maybe the digi show as well?

I was just going to add for newbies that Shimelle (our Glitter Girl) has a class she does every yr on her personal blog called "Journal your Christmas". I am enjoying a different class of hers I'm taking now so much that I'm considering joining that one for making a Christmas album this year. (I'm new to online classes but this is fun!)
Just another option to consider if you are looking for ideas on how to approach a Christmas album!

I am doing the December Daily for the 1st time this year as well. Does it have to be what you do on each of the days in December or can it be an album of 25 or 31 things done during the holiday season..ex. xmas cards, putting up tree, wrapped gifts, etc. in no particular order of course.
