I was going to get the white expedition....figured it'd go with any decor. However, my Ikea has the black-brown one (only that color) on sale Friday for $20 off. Any cons to the black-brown color?

I have the black brown because that's all they had when I got mines. I really love it! The down is that is does show dust. I get my swifter and do a quick dust once a week. Most of my shelves are full so it's not much work. I prefer dark colors anyways. These a pic in my gallery. Beware its not the cleanest room at the time the picture was taken. |

I started with that one and now it's in my closet. I LOVE the color, but I found when I wanted to get a bigger one, that I didn't want to make the room seem too dark since I also use the black cubes inserted in them. So I opted for my bigger one to be birch. It just offset the dark color of the cubes for me. If you do a color cube or aren't doing the cube at all, the colors that pop out from your stuff that is inside the shelves should offset the darker color of the outside. |

I love my black/brown. also, dust on black/brown is still prettier than stains/smudges on white. just sayin' |

I have the black/brown one and I WISH I'd gotten the white..
It does show dust like crazy, and I should have gotten white as my space is a bit darker to start with. sigh. |

I was going to get the white expedition
Well then get the tan interior, lol!
I prefer the darker, but you do know there is a soft, caramel color Expedit, too. |

we have a couple in the house all black and yep, they show dust. In those areas it is "ok" b/c those are dusted regularly. My craft space, however, rarely gets cleaned like that so I would go white in there. |

I have all black furnishings in my craft space, including a large Expedit and several smaller ones with a counter across them (check out my gallery to see photos). Yes, they definitely show dust. But, I have the large Kassett boxes in them so to much of each shelf shows or gets dusty.
The dark color can make a room seem smaller so give that some thought before making your decision.
I like the black and would probably have chosen the wood look had the black not been available. I just don't think the white looks as nice, but that's a totally personal opinion and I mean no offense to those who have white.
I think it's important to consider the size of the room, the other furnishings, and what you will store in the cubbies and in what type of container. |

I have 2 of the black/brown one -- one is the 5x5 and the other is a 2x5. I have the 12x12 baskets in each of the cubbies, and it works like a charm... I have not had a problem with dust, but the baskets pretty much consume the horizontal surfaces. I really like the color.

Your comments are all helpful. Now I just have to decide if another color is worth the extra $20.

I have two black Pottery Barn Studio Wall Shelves in my craft room; dust is easily remedied with a swipe of a cloth. Because of their open design, the shelves do not look heavy in the room.
Our son has three white 2x4 Expedit units and a desk with a black-brown table atop four white legs in his playroom. Both the white & black-brown finishes show dust. The significant difference is the white also shows scar marks (from toys being slid in & out of the cubes &/or inexpensive Drona bins). Unfortunately his playroom is above the garage, features slanted walls to accommodate the roof line, & only has one window; the white finishes on most of the furniture is necessary in this particular space, although I prefer the black-brown.

I was planning on getting the white, but then I hit the same sale last year and switched to black brown. I like it, and am glad I don't have to worry about it getting inky/smudgy. But I do love the look of a big white one, and may get one another time. |

i have white in my studio and love it b/c of the dust issue that others have mentioned. in our sons' rooms, we have one of the brown/black and one of the light oak. they are all great! there's just no doubt that the dark one shows dust a lot more. |

I love my black/brown ones. I also have the black/brown target desk to match.
But, if I were to do it over again, I might go for white. I would love to mix it up and add some of the M's cubes w/ the flat drawers and I've only seen them in white.
My room isn't black & white so I don't want to mix up the furniture colors now.
But I love my family room turned scraproom with the dark furniture. It looks less crafty and more like a combination room with the dark furniture, the tv and the couch

I have the black-brown in our living room to hold albums and it matches very well with our other black furniture. I love it! I dust every other day so I dont notice dust piling on it much. |

I was going to get the black/brown one, but changed my mind because of the dust issue. I actually love the look of the white one in my scraproom. |

I haven't seen the birch before - love it lovetodigi!
I'm hoping to get one of these in January when we visit IKEA that's 6 hours away.
I love, love black/brown but yes it does show dust. I'm glad to see all the opinions here from those who have these. |

I have a white 4x4 in my scraproom and I love it. It does get dusty of course, but you can't really see it, lol. I don't have any stains or marks on mine either. I have some albums on it but I use it more to display and store supplies. Each cube has different colored items stored in it where they can all be seen. I would probably buy the black one if it was in a childs room or a living room, buy white looks really pretty in my scraproom. Good luck with your decision!

I think for the price, I may go with the black-brown. That's $20 more then that I can spend on scrapping supplies. Plus I saw the white alex drawers with a black top and think the look was nice. I have mainly white in my scrap area now but it's just in a corner of the basement. I'm hoping to get a "room" one day and then I can mix the black and white.

I have a wall of the black-brown. I love them! Yes, they show dust, but that just keeps me on my game -- don't want any of my treasure getting dusty.
You will enjoy whichever color you choose! |

I've shopped the expedit many times in person, but I haven't brought one home because the cubes do not fit my Binders. I have dark furniture in my scraproom and I just dust it. I think the white furniture looks cheaper to me JMO. Good luck with your decision.
