Every time I think of it I end up pulling something old out and using it .last week I was doing a Calendar page and I usually use the cricut to do the month but I ended up pulling out alpha dies and did it .Loved the look .So glad I didn't get rid of them .I have a lot of old paper and I am forever going to it for something .I am the only one ?

If you are using your stash there is no reason for you to purge! The problem is when it sits and sits and sits.........

I also have a hard time purging for the same reason. The other day I was trying to go through some old Mrs. Grossman stickers when I realized I had some really cool matte feather stickers, and feathers seem to be all the rage now.

I very rarely purge. I try to use something older from my stash on every page. Next year one of my scrapping goals will be to make layouts using mostly older supplies at least once or twice a month.

I don't purge a lot. Maybe twice in 10 years and each time it's a small shopping bag full that I send to Goodwill.

It's mostly stuff that was just a complete mistake from the get go. The Fasenator, or other tools that simply didn't work or cheap paper or stamps.

If it fits in your space and you might use it sometime soon, I say don't worry about it!

I don't purge, no need. Everything cycles around, designs, etc. Some paper I have from 10 years ago matches in design a current line of papers that was just released. Colors can't become outdated, and anything I don't like can be altered with paint, ink, stamped over, etc, into something I like. If I run out of room, the answer for me would be to stop spending, not get rid of the stuff I currently have so I could buy more.

I purged a bit a couple weeks ago. It was stuff I had not used in years and it always feels good to purge - to me anyway. They were items that made the cut previously but not this time. Away with that stuff....

I TOTALLY agree with this!! I have stencils from years and years ago that I now use with mists. I too find that papers I already have can be updated by inking, distressing etc. Some old slabs have perfect colors and designs to cut into thin strips for faux Washi tape. I tended to "save" the good stuff, so now I have decided instead of buying more I need to use some of the stuff I have been "saving".

I refuse to purge! I bought my supplies because I loved them very much and I don't tire of those designs easily. I have items from 10 years ago that I still think are so pretty.

I totally agree with Kath. Just as in fashion, trends go in cycles. What's looking dated/boring today might be the hottest thing again tomorrow. If you love your stuff and have enough space to store it, I'd say keep it and use it!

I have a wonderful building my dh built but I don't heat it all winter I am getting ready to retire and have a spare bedroom I have been using .I keep going to the building and bring older things up just yesterday I went down and got glitter glue and Velcro and a plastic frame I have had forever to put them on while I was there I brought up 4 old punches I haven't used in 5 years and picked out several older paper packs .It will not be fun to move it all back to the building but I find I am doing more with it in the spare bedroom .Glad I am not alone.

I rarely 'purge', definitely not as much as most people here seem to. When I feel like I have too much stuff, I try and go on a 'scrapping binge' instead and do lots of pages to use it all up.

Purge for the sake of purging, oh hell no. Toss it, Goodwill it, you must be crazy.

Take mercy on a newbie and gift them some stuff that isn't getting much use, oh yes please. I have dumped pounds of paper and oodles of tools that have been replaced by something I prefer on my newbie friends. I still remember being new, it's very expensive to get started.

Allow my little girl and her little girl friends to use things that were once pricey and precious, I can do that too.

I was forced into purging in May, when my storage squares collapsed from the weight. Now I tend to keep a box for cast-offs: tools, stamps & embellishments that I come across while searching for something to use that I just don't care for anymore. I also have gone through my paper stash a couple times since then, trying to weed out what I will never use. When I have accumulated several lots of stuff, I will put my stuff on Craig's List, the FSOT forum or eBay.

I know what you mean. I actually have a bag of stuff I have been meaning to get rid of. Only it has been sitting in my scraproom for about a month and I've already pulled three pieces of paper out and used them. Strange, since the criteria was I could not have used any paper from within that collection in over a year.

Nope! I have only gotten rid of a few sheets of paper (some bright Hawaii themed Colorbök paper-when I've never been to Hawaii ). I love all my other papers and embellishments. Thick, thin, old, newer, I've collected it for a reason. It all fits in the space I have for it, and I don't buy more of items that I have plenty of (ie brown buttons). If your stuff isn't overwhelming you and you're using it, then I don't see any problem! I *do* really like the idea though of setting limits, ie if my paper/journaling spots/scraps don't fit in the space allotted, time to stop buying, and start scrapping!

If you will use the stuff then keep it is what I say!

I have gotten rid of things here and there when I just know that I will never ever use them again, primarily stickers.

I took a few years off from scrapbooking when my last ds was very small and have just gotten back into the swing of things. I didn't buy new stuff while I was on my 'break' but I have tons leftover from what I had then. I do prefer some of the new stuff that's out now but theres nothing wrong with my older stuff and I get sick thinking about how much money Id be tossing away if I got rid of that old stuff. So I made myself a challenge that I will only buy solid cardstock and adhesive until I get a lot of this older stuff used up.

I have caved on some things at a crop here and there but Im generally doing a great job with it!

I end up doing this more often now that I DID purge the things I bought when I first started. You know, when you had no idea what your style was and you just got it because it seemed EVERYONE had those violent orange stencil cutters but you never used them? Or that wire you could never get to work? Or those weird things that came with your kit club?

Now when I get a hair up my butt about needing more room and having too much stuff I'll pick a Page Planner envelope where I store my paper and say "this HAS to go TODAY". I'll spill it out (full papers and scraps are stored there) onto my desk and put the envelope away. Thus meaning I can't put anything back. On a day like that I can usually get 7 or 8 layouts done and a few cards when I'm just down to scraps. Then my small storage is clear of that paper line and ready for more!

I know Mrs Grossman's stickers are out of style, but some of them are nice especially on pop dots and layering etc. I don't enter competitions so if the pages look clean and nice to me, why not? I am definitely not an artist in any way, so I tend to scraplift and use sketches a lot. That said, I really, really like to shop for new stuff too. Love to see what talented people are able to create with paper!
