I'm going to do PL in 2013. My BF will actually be home for a whole 80 days straight from his usual military schedule of maybe one month total at home all year so I'm excited to document our day to day life because we normally just have email.

With that said, I have been gathering PL scrappy supplies. I signed up for the SC monthly PL kit, have my WRMK album, and have bought a variety of page protectors. In addition, I've organized the journaling cards I do have trying to be ready to go for the first week.

Then I started to ponder why these companies do not sell and ship PL products prior to the start of 2013? I want the Seafoam kit but I know it doesn't go up until the end of December. By the time it ships it will be after Jan. 1. Same deal with SC-wouldn't it make more sense to ship product PRIOR to the project starting?

It would make sense! Seafoam is coming from amazon, which means it should be pretty fast. Two days if you are a Prime user.

I think the SC kits are sort of meant to be added in to your basics since you will be getting goodies every month. Maybe plan to use what you have the first few weeks then start mixing the sc kit in? You can always add embellishments to those first few weeks too if you leave them a little plain until your kit comes.

I agree with you. I've always thought it was a lost opportunity. I was going to get a baby kit as a Christmas gift but am passing now. I don't do down to the wire Christmas shopping/shipping.

My understanding from Becky Higgins' blog is that the kits were supposed to be printed here in the US but, when that plan failed and everything moved back overseas the product timelines were delayed. Frustrating but, nothing to be done about it now

Maybe timelines will improve now that American Crafts will be distributing.

I agree, and I don't understand why PL stuff almost always seems to take longer than expected.

The Baby kits, for example - when they announced them a few months ago, they said they would be available to buy in November. Then it was early December, and now it's mid-December.

I did hear about the made-in-the-US vs overseas thing, but it seems like this happens all the time with PL stuff. I guess I just don't get it - other companies don't routinely do that (except maybe OA lol!). And there's really not much apology or explanation - it's like they're expecting the BH following to be strong enough that people will just accept PL products whenever they're available. And we do seem to - b/c I'll likely buy the Baby kit whenever it finally becomes available.

Sorry for the tangent/vent - I guess it bothers me more than I realized!

I agree; it seems like BH has a different excuse every year.

This is one of the reasons why I no longer purchase any BH products. I feel that she tries to give the impression that she is an open and honest small business owner, but her actions tell a different story. My biggest example was when the price of PL on amazon jumped 25% without any explanation/warning on her blog. The second is the constant production delays that are NEVER BH's fault.

I don't generally feel that business owe their customers explanations for their business decisions, but if you are going to post on your blog all the time about how transparently you run your business, then you don't get to pick and choose the issues you address. Production delays and price increases are a big deal, and customers deserve explanations and honesty. The price increase was addressed VERY belately, with a note that the company has been losing money by keeping the prices where they were. I don't buy for one second that it costs $24.99 to produce and distribute cards that are printed on cheaper paper than your traditional deck of playing cards.

I'm also not thrilled about the collaboration with AC. If BH couldn't manage her process in a timely manner before, how is it going to get any better when she's working with a much larger company who is going to impose more restrictive deadlines? I just don't see it going well.

Anyway, that's my rant.

Then I started to ponder why these companies do not sell and ship PL products prior to the start of 2013? I want the Seafoam kit but I know it doesn't go up until the end of December.

I've been doing PL with my own supplies and it is WAY more fun that way. I did my first PL with a BH kit and became very quickly bored with it, although I did stick it through for the year. This year's PL is turning out SO PRETTY and I feel so much more creative than when using the same pre-printed cards over and over again.

I think it depends on what you're trying to accomplish. If you just want a "quick-and-dirty" way of documenting your year, then a PL kit is perfect for you. Personally, I want to document my year AND get to express my creativity. Also, I have a HUGE scrapbook stash and I'd like to actually USE it at a rate that is higher than I'm adding to it!

Enjoy your 2013 Project Life!

I know what you mean. I haven't really paid attention to it this year, because I still have plenty of my Clementine kit. But last year, I was so excited to start, and I had to kind of half start because the kit didn't arrive until way after Jan. 1st.
We'll see how things go with this new agreement with AC. I also did not realizw the prices jumped that much! Wow, I am out of the loop. I still haven't decided which kit I am going with for 2013. I do love the Seafoam. I also love the Olive kit. I agree with Jenp1024. While I don't 100% use my own supplies, I use a lot of them mixed in with the Clementime kit and I love the results. Let's face it too, we all have a lot of supplies, right?

I'm not buying a kit this year either mostly because I'm tired of the excuses and the fact that they are NEVER ready by the first of the year. If your bread and butter is a kit that documents an entire year, it only makes sense that the kit be available before the first of the year. I have bought so many of the kits from her and find I don't use them much anymore. I use a lot of my own supplies and digital items I've gathered along the way, including some digital of hers. I have a binder and tons of product left from other years where I didn't use much of the kit, so the only thing I ordered from BH is the page protectors and I wasn't thrilled about the price increase on those. I like knowing my supplies are already basically gathered and ready for 2013 and I'm not playing the waiting game while she delays the available date again and again. I wasn't thrilled about the partnering with AC either.

And I'm confused about the digital products being pulled from Jessica Sprague. Earlier that day I had gotten an email from JS about a new class she is offering for PL because BH had given her exclusive rights to it. Later that same day, I get an email from BH that they are going to start selling the digital products themselves and pulling them from JS by the end of the year. Very odd.

I seriously considered Snap and hope I don't regret not making the switch. That Snap stuff is cute! And after 4 years with PL, BH's stuff is all starting to look alike to me.

I'm sure the reason BH is pulling her digi products from Jessica is due to American Crafts new digital website. AC now has their own website for digital files and I'm sure due to contracts they can't be sold anywhere else.

Add me to the list of people that will not be happy if the new kits aren't going to be available until after the New Year. I will be seriously disappointed and probably will just use the stuff I have on hand. Most of the other companies have jumped on the PL bandwagon so it's not like there's a shortage of other product available.

Add me to the list of person's being tired of excuses. I'm really ticked off about 1) the price increase with no warning and 2) pulling from Jessica Sprague when she gave her a chance. You know, people say that's business, but the scrapbook community also says we stick together.....I feel like she took a huge dump on Jessica. I could be completely wrong about the whole situation, but I'm not happy about the AC joint venture either.
Since Echo Park now has the same photo sleeves, I'm buying from them, even though they are a tad more expensive. I'm just irked by the whole thing.
It seems like BH is doing the same thing that Creating Keepsakes did to her....that was the reason why she left, wasn't it?
After a few years of business, you would think you could have it down by now....at least deadlines concerning delivery of your product.

It seems like the PL kits always come after the first- they have for many years. I remember sitting by the computer one of the first years to click quickly and purchase a kit. I think it was on Jan. 1st.

I really liked using my stash this year and ordered the box of 100 journaling cards to use quickly. I agree that it makes you more creative- I had a lot of fun with it! I have used the kits before and it makes it very easy- I guess to each his own.

That said, I will need a Seafoam kit this year. Love the colors. I also need a baby kit...
