I am debating if I want to paint the outside covers red...I think I saw someone do it here on 2peas?..not sure where...

Anyone paint theirs?

I painted mine and it came out great! I just did some teal paint on the spine and wrapped around to about 2" on the front. I used Ranger paint dabbers. I used a paint brush and put on just enough to cover the cloth, I didn't want to saturate it too much! I used washi tape as masking tape and it worked like a charm. Good luck!
