My Cameo will be hitting my desk this afternoon and I am not even excited about it.

Due to stress at home for the last couple of months, a co-worker passing away in the last 4 weeks and adding on her responsibities, along with Christmas being just a short time away and I am not even decorated in the house, there is just not one bit of excitedness in my being to get this new toy. WOW talk about a run-on and rambling sentence.

I hope that after the new year when things calm down, I will have some extra time and can go play. Truth be told, I think I am a bit afraid of what I WON't be able to do with it due to a learning curve and will become frustrated and not even WANT to use it.

Anyone else felt this way about Mr. Brown as he delivered that wonderful box of goodness??

I'm sorry you are going through a rough time right now. It's tough this time of year with the stress involved as it is. I suggest you watch some videos on the basics of using the Cameo just get yourself familiar with it. Download the free software too and play with it. Once things calm down, I am sure you will love your new toy. I wouldn't force it right now though.

Sorry that you have been going through so much lately. It sounds like you might need some scrapping therapy. I ordered my Cameo a couple of weeks ago when I ordered a camera lens for DH. Both are upstairs on my work table. I feel guilty about opening mine when he can't open his. I did tell him that I ordered my Christmas gift from him and he asked what it was. I told him that it was a surprise, so I couldn't tell him. He just laughed. Anyway, I do have and have used the Silhouette SD and it had a very easy learning curve. Maybe if you just make yourself do one page of cutouts for some cards or a sb page, it will be enough to get you excited about doing more. If you run into any trouble, you can always get help here. Uhm... mine's been in the box, unopened since April. I think I am scared of it! I have all the intentions of getting it out. Bought all kinds of shapes from the store and Studio Calico, yet there it sits, all lonely in the dark, in the box. Sad. Just sad. Poor Cameo.

I *promised* myself that two of my January expectations for myself is to (1) open that cameo and use it and (2) get back to walking at least an hour a day.

I can relate!

I have had mine two weeks tomorrow--it is still in the big brown box. I just have not had the time I know I will need to learn it, but I have downloaded a bunch of files from the site and installed the software on my laptop. I am off from the 21st to the 2nd (go back on the 3rd) and will spend time over my holiday learning it.

Did you find/bookmark the amazing Cameo Master Thread? If you want the link, let me know. I will be happy to send it to you!

I'm glad I'm not the only one that has felt this away about the cameo! Mine arrived around Black Friday and i still haven't used it.. I know nothing about it or where to even start.. I watched the video that came with it which was helpful but I always seem to get very overwhelmed quickly when it comes to things and when that happens I just put it down and walk away! I try to force myself to finish what I started and to not stress out so much .. But I understand your feelings! I gave up on my cricut after only using it a few times because no matter how hard I tried I couldn't get it to cut right! & I think I'm scared to mess with the cameo for that same reason.. But I will after the holiday madness calms down! Don't force yourself to use it now .. Wait untill things calm down around you & then play with it! You'll be much happier, more patient to learn & glad that you waited!

I bought mine a year ago Black Friday to take advantage of an awesome deal, but I didn't open it until January. Last Christmas was not a good one.

Hope you will get to enjoy yours in January!

I wouldn't worry about it. Here is a great thread about the Cameo quirks, which I really this is what the "learning curve" is. Lots of other people have figured it out for you. Use their experiences to help you! I'm still working on it.

Get it out and try something. I found that playing around with the software was nice to get me comfortable with that aspect before I started cutting.

I'm not much further ahead of you. I got mine last week, took it out of the box, plugged it in and that was all she wrote.
I too will most likely not get to it until after the holidays.

I'll be honest, I got my Cameo last January and it has taken an entire year for me to embrace it and really get into trying new things. I have made so many Christmas decorations this year and used the vinyl on canvases. Just give it time. I got frustrated and was overwhelmed when I received mine too. I was seeing all of the amazing things people were doing with it and I couldn't even get my paper to come off of the cutting mat without tearing. hahaha! You'll get the hang of it. I absolutely love mine now! Good Luck!

I can so relate. I got my Cameo for Valentine's Day and there it sits in the brown box it was delivered in. Maybe after the holidays I will get it together.

I promise ladies....if I can use it effortlessly, so can y'all.

I am so techno-challenged it's not even funny. But I plugged that baby in and went to town. Once the whole bad blade thing was resolved, I was good to go.

I've never had an issue with the software, or an image...heck, I even even convert a .png file now....ON MY OWN. LOL

Take them out of the boxes and start playing. YOU WILL LOVE IT!!!!!

I have had the software downloaded on my computer for months now and have been collecting all the "free shapes of the week" that they put out. I have bookmarked the master Cameo thread, so I am good to do there. What exactly should I be looking for when I go to youtube to look up stuff? I did look up how to use the fonts to cut out words but I guess I didn't delve into it too deeply.

Truth be told, I am excited to be getting it. It will just be finding the time to use it. Allowing myself to find the time to use it is the key.

Now, seeing someone bought files from SC has me really curious. Off to look at those files!!

I don't have the Cameo, but can definitely relate.

DH got me the Bosskut Gazelle 3 yrs ago for Christmas and I have yet to figure out how to import & trace files.

I can cut out fonts & dingbat fonts, but have not been able to get the time to sit down and figure out the rest.

I just took the on-line class with Amanda Jones, "Silhouette 101" on the Creative Passion class website, even though I haven't even opened mine yet, and I am rarin' to go! Watching first really dispels the fear (even though I am a high-tech person and not afraid of it at all, just need a block of time). Watch as many YouTube and other videos as you can. Watching and seeing other people, especially ones who can explain well, really helps. I also follow the blog Under A Cherry Tree, Jin makes a lot of great things with her Cameo and I just love watching her work.

And, I am so sorry for your loss and troubles. It's always difficult around the holidays with the added stress, etc. Don't worry about it. Take your time. It's not a race, nobody's going to scream at you about "Why haven't you used your Cameo yet?!". This is for YOU. Do it when it feels right. Don't be afraid.

Oh Renee I am so sorry you are going through all of this, especially during the holiday season. I hope that later this month or come January you will have some time to play with your new toy and have some fun.

I'm sorry you have a rough time these past few weeks. If the cameo is going to cause any stress, just set it aside until after the holidays when you can take the time to enjoy it.

First off OP, I totally get it but that being said and for all of you just plain scared of the Cameo, fear not!!! I owned the original Silhouette and it sat untouched except for one use and it sounded like a dying moose . Then a couple of years later I found out about a free class at a scrapbook store across the state line that I went to. I used it a couple of times but once again packed it away. Fast forward to 6 months ago when I discovered the classes by Kerri Bradford on JessicaSprague.com. My world opened up and I can say that for very little money I learned oodles about my original machine and used it everyday. My hubby asked me what I wanted for Christmas and I jokingly said the Cameo the proceeded to give him a list of websites where he could choose a gift card of $50.00 or less for my gift. Imagine my surprise when he came in and handed me his credit card and said I could order my gift, I asked which gift card and he tapped my silhouette and said "the machine". I got mine a week and a half ago and I love it and can't wait to get the designer software and take the class from Kerri to expand my knowledge. So kick back and enjoy the holiday season and then get ready during the beginning of next year to play and have some fun. If you can you might want to go to JessicaSprague and sign up for a beginning class, they are on sale right now!

oooh, YES! I buy tons of cut files from SC. They come as .png files and then I just convert them by tracing them in the software. Some of my favorites have come from SC.

Im in the same situation kind of. My mom bought me the Cameo and I hadn't taken i out of the box yet due to decorating for Christmas. I was going to take it out last night and then had to call the ambulance for my mom.. She has various health problems and doesn't take good care of herself.. Now I am staring at the box and not even caring..

So, you are not alone. I keep saying over and over that `"Everything will be okay in the end. If it isn't okay - it isn't the end"

So sorry you've been going through an overwhelming time. I have been through similar ordeals over the last few years. I figure that scrapping will be here for me to do when I'm able to settle down a bit. I still take photos and stick memorabilia in the drawer so that I can put it all together in an album. I bought a Cameo, and right now, all I want to make with it is little stuff for Christmas -- package trims, gift boxes and envies, banners, etc. I'll probably get to the scrapping in the new year. Don't push yourself -- this is supposed to be fun! If I feel too far behind, I'll just plop pics on a page with a journalling spot and move on! I won't make myself do something special on every page. Relax, enjoy the holidays, and revisit this hobby when you're in a better position to do so. Do what puts a smile on your face!

Wow! My heart goes out to you as I did not have a moment to myself during the month of November!

I'd watch the Under A cheery Tree videos on Youtube, and general youtube tutorials on the Cameo.

When I purchased my Cameo there weren't many videos, but after time went on there were more tutorials.

It's not a huge learning curve! Once you get the hang of it, it's pretty simple.

Sorry for all the stress you are experiencing. Oddly enough the holidays are stress filled times(shouldn't be that way though crazy
Mine wasn't a cameo but a cricut expression 2. I finially could justify upgrading from my original expression after many years, but I was scared to open the box. It sat there in a corner of my room intimidating me for 2 weeks until the night before a friends wedding I opened to make a banner, got mad at it and dragged out my old faithful to finish it up( I was IN the wedding, so I really should have started it before 7 pm the night before) now that I have given myself time to bond with it, I it, and you will your Cameo too. When you have time to really sit down and craft stress free

I'm excited that I have a cameo on the way, as a Christmas present from my husband. I don't know when I will get a chance to play with it, but in due time I guess. Like the original post, work has exploded. My employer has not given raises in 4 years and folks are beginning to roll out the door. This means extra work but scrapbooking is therapy for me and I will be excited to try out the cameo after Christmas.

I do have a question though. I have been downloading he shape of the week. When I open it, the shape is very faint on the screen and I can barely see it. Is this normal? Or could it perhaps be because I have not linked a cameo to the site? Just curious....Thanks in advance for any suggestions in regard to this...

Thanks all!! It is good to know that the peas have your back when needed. I got it yesterday afternoon. It is in the box under my desk at work. I will keep it. I will use it and I am sure I will love it.

It is good to hear that it is easy enough to use. I have been told to use up some vacation at work so it looks like I may be off the week of Christmas. I may try to get some time to ME during that week. We will see...

I'll warn you it's a slippery slope if you look at the SC files, they are awesome! Says the girl that has been buying them but not actually cutting them.

It took me a while to embrace my machine, an SD that I've had for 2 years. To be perfectly honest it isn't until recently that I've really gotten into it.
