I got my first Noel Mignon kit a couple of days ago (called Soda Shoppe), and it is packed with lots of awesome goodies!

One thing that confused me, though, were the 3 or so colored paper straws. I don't remember hearing about those or running across them before! I did a search in the gallery, though, and did come up with a few results.

Is this a new trend? If you've used them, what have you done with them? And wouldn't they squish flat in an album?

Now to figure out what to do with the bitty bags. I can see these kits are going to stretch my scrapping comfort zone a bit!

I'll be watching this thread. I too just got the straws in my kit and wondered what to do with them. Someone from the Peas will know.....

I've used them for papercrafting, but the first time I'd personally seen them used on a layout was earlier this week on Ashli Oliver's blog- http://purplemailbox.blogspot.com/2012/12/the-dollar-store-deer.html .

I used one earlier this year to make a mason jar scene and have it in the 2Peas gallery here-

Hope that helps!

I saw them at the online store I shop in and could figure out why you'd use straws for scrapping either. Then I saw them used in paper crafting ... you can use the straw as a post for a flag/banner. It's cute... but I don't see myself using them.

Hey! Thanks for linking up my post, Melissa! I have had fun with the straws and am using them a bit in my Christmas Album too.... One thing to note... they do add a bit of bulk to the page

Merry Christmas everyone!

I reposted a card where someone used them as candles on the front of a bday card. I'd post the pic but I can't from my phone. If you're on Facebook, look up thestachestore page and its on there

I am thinking it would make a cute handle for a pinwheel.

You could just flatten them if you're using them for a stick or stem or pole. They would still be somewhat dimensional. If you wanted them a little rounder you could stuff them with some thick wool or a few stands or some cord or twine. Then they would be flat on the back side so you could stick them down but slightly curved on the front.

I just picked up some red and white and green and white striped paper straws at M's today. I'm going to use them in my DD. They were $1.99 for like 10, and then hugely discounted sine they are Xmas merchandise.

I'd love to see more examples of these being used.

I received grey and cream striped paper straws in my stocking today! So excited. Have been wanting some for a while but hadn't found the right colours for me, and these are perfect. Not sure what I'll do with them.

Reminds me of a few years ago when I used real straws in paper jackets on a layout. It is still one of my faves today.

I loved the look of the dollar store deer!! Glittered carousel deer was inspirational! And I want to see this straw in the paper layout from biochemipea

Very Jane has an offer for vintage straws right now. Just saw it on their web site.

Debbie, I can't find the image! I've gone through two or three computers since then, and don't have the file saved. Sorry!
It was kind of a cool page.... I used several straws in paper jackets, and some clear test tubes filled with rhinestones, all lined up in a row across the page.

Other than pinwheels or for part of a carousel - I have no idea! So at this point I'm glad to not "need" to add these to my stash- so don't change my mind!

Thanks for trying to find it! I still got a good idea from your description. Now Im wondering why I never used straws on my layouts!
