I'm looking for a bigz type alphabet die with a nice clean font. I don't want to spend a small fortune on them either. Can anyone give me some direction? What are some of the brands that are also compatible with the big shot? Any favorites?

Check the For Sale or Trade Board here at 2 peas.. The cost of the older alphas has gone down with people using the electronic machines. Check the Sizzix site and their outlet too. You might also want to check eBay..... But be sure to know your prices before you go there to buy.

Anything but the Spellbinders Grands dies should work as far as compatibility goes. You just have to figure out the sandwich. What size of alpha? Serif or sans serif? All caps or both? The PPs suggestions are definitely good places to look!

Thanks for the responses so far. I'm looking for upper and lower case 1-2 inch tall letters. I would like a die that would cut corrugated and some thicker type mediums. I just wasn't sure what brands etc. are out there.

Wren I have the sizzix alphabet die sets. I think I have classic and one other. I can check when I get home.

Memory Box Co. has amazing large alpha and number sets in 3 different fonts coming out next week! Most stores should have them Jan. 2, and we will have a DT blog blitz the week of January 7th. The size is awesome and works perfect in the Big Shot.

If you want to cut ANYTHING then you need steel rule dies. To me, Sizzlits don't cut as well as QuicKutz on things other than cardstock.

If you find an Zip'eSlim by AccuCut, they work in the Big Shot and cut great. They are like Sizzix Originals and Bigz in that they are steel rule BUT in wood instead of plastic bases. I have the Zip'eSlim Teachers Rule which is 2 inches tall and love it, cuts anything including mat board.

There are some other wood dies THAT fit the Big Shot/Cuttlebug made by offbrand places. I've bought several and work great for me.

Alphabars are the Sizzix steel rule alpha dies that have 3 letters to the bar and most are about 1 inch tall. Doodle Block is one that cuts out the letter AND you get the negative in a block at the same time. Saw several on eBay right now at a darn good price, and saw some at a way too high price.

Sizzix Serif and Lollipop are both over 1 inch tall and work great and prices go from one extreme to the other. Look both here at FSOT and on eBay, got mine in both places.

For some reason die companies don't seem to measure alphabets the same way we do so if you want to know how high a letter is, post your question here and I'll go measure IF I have that particular alphabet!

Classic is a Sizzlits set, but taller then most.

You might want to take a look at the Word Play Die by Sizzix. It is a steel rule die, so it will cut through most things. The letters are all pretty good size, and they are all on 1 very long die so you can't lose a letter! You can use it in big shot, cuttle bug, vagabond, etc. Hope you find what you are looking for.
