I did PL 2012 and it was great. It took a bit to get used to the concept but by the middle of the year it was going well.
However, one thing really bugs me. I really get frustrated when I use page protector X on the right side of a two page spread but when I turn the page I really need page protector Y on the left page. (Am I making sense?) How do you deal with this?
I was thinking this year maybe I'd just do a PL "design" but just stick everything to 12x12 CS instead of doing divided page protectors. Do you know anyone who has done this? Blog posts I can look at? Gallery examples? Videos? Am I crazy?
Any thoughts are much appreciated - TIA!

Why not choose on style of divided protector and then use that one only? For example, Elise Blaha Cripe uses "Style A" divided sleeves in her albums. link | |

I do a lot of "divided page protector scrapping" of my vacations and such, and I have this same problem all the time. It does make it more challenging but it always seems to work out. If the photo layouts don't match the photos exactly, I improvise.
For example, I'll print a vertical photo at 3x4 so it will fit into a horizontal 4x6 slot (next to another similar photo or journaling/PP). Or if I have 2 horizontal slots and a vertical photo, I cut the photo and "spread it" across the 2 horizontal slots. You could do the same for spreading a horizontal 4x6 photo across 2 vertical 3x4 slots.
In other words, there's nothing that says you HAVE to use the slots as they're intended, LOL!
This is my first go at PL and this is exactly why I'm sticking with one page design throughout the book (Design A). I take mostly horizontal photos anyway. For the occasional verticals, I'll print them 3x4 and use one of the slots meant for a journal card. Then that frees up a 4x6 slot that I can then use for a journal card.

I have seen it done. It actually looks awesome and while it gives you the look of PL, it also gives you the freedom to put things how you want them not how the page protectors make you put them. I'll PM you the link since it's to a Gallery on another site. |

This is definitely do-able! I'm doing my PL monthly; but before I started, I used to do monthly layouts once in a while. I'm sure weekly layouts would work too. Good luck! |

I use Design A as the base of my album to help with this issue. I just add in other styles as inserts along the way.
May Flaum did a series on her blog called "Project Hawaii", she used a PL core kit, with cardstock as the base instead of divided page protectors

I almost exclusively use Design A. If I do an insert, then I will use a different style, it does require some planning when choosing pictures for that week, but it makes it much easier. | |

I actually gave it a try last year on a single scrapbook layout. I liked the results. I had to trim my photos to be a slight bit smaller than 4"x6" and if I were to do it again, I would use Photoshop or something to size my photos before printing them (everything had already been printed in 4" x 6". It was a little challenging, but I said I would try it again. I just never got around to doing that. Later on, I started using the page protectors. Good luck. | |

I just started project life this year. I first started out using the page protectors but then I realized it wasn't for me so I'm doing more of a Smash book type of project life. I found a planner at Target and so far it's been working great. There is tons of blank space, I swear it was meant for a scrapper. If you want to check it out I posted about it a few times on my blog.

That's basically the color-blocking method of scrapping. I was thinking of that myself for some layouts. I already do color blocking sometimes, but the PL style would keep it to fitting only 4 x 6's and 2 x 3's. (but slightly trimmed in order to work in a 12 x 12 page). |

@nesser01: I just looked at the links on your blog. I loved your PL planner! I think it is an awesome idea.
I also struggle with the pocket pages and photo orientation, since I like taking both vertical and horizontal photos. Sometimes I print the vertical ones 3x4, but other times the vertical photo is too important to leave it small. Arranging the photos is the most time consuming step for me. | |

I did a single page like this. I really liked the way it turned out, but it definitely didn't keep the ease of PL's divided page protectors. I really had to trim and finagle everything to fit. |

I think that's a great idea! I've wondered how I can still scrap my usual style of lots of embellishments because you don't have as much give in the regular PL pockets to accommodate bulky embellishments but you could in a 12x12 protector |

Glitter Girl has a video showing how to use PL type embellishments on a 12x12 page but she just uses one large photo. I am going to do a PL album for some of my recent photos but still plan on mainly doing traditional scrapbooking so I found this interesting because I noticed a lot of companies now have the cut apart page decorations.

I keep a little sketch book with me, and whenever I upload pics, I jot down the date and what pics I want to print and then whenever I'm waiting in the car to pick someone up, or sitting in a waiting room, etc., I pull it out and sketch around a bit until I have each 2 page LO decided in terms of what page style I will use next.
Sometimes things fall into place really easily, and sometimes I erase and try again 2 or 3 times, but in the end I always figure out something.
What helps me is that I am not doing it weekly. So I don't mind mixing up pics within a month.
So if the kids played at the park on the 3rd, there was a birthday party the 5th, and DH & I went out on the 10th, I don't feel I need to have them in chronological order. As long as they all are together as the month of March, that's fine for me. So if it works out better for me to have them in the album as Date night/birthday/playground, I will totally do that.
And that has saved my butt several times already. |

In 2004, I did do a baby album that was divided like a page protector page, but just done on 12x12 pages.
I split each page into four corners and then on one side I put a photo in each quadrant and on the other side I did journalling in each quadrant. So it was a look I could definitely create in PL albums (I think WRMK makes page protectors with 4 square pockets.), but without the album.
