Cherrypicker always reminded us to do this and after taking so many in December, now is a good time to remember to back up your family photos!

I use Crashplan that does a seamless and automatic backup of my computer - and the new year might be the time for some of you to convert to auto backup. It is VERY NICE to be able to cross something off the to do list!

Crash Plan sells you different plan rates for different levels of storage. I went with unlimited and it covers up to 3 machines. It works in the background and keeps you automatically backed up to their 'cloud'.

I get an email report telling me the status of my machine backup and it just works in the background without me having to do anything.

The initial upload will be slow, as you are sending all of your hard drive slowly up to their cloud. But, after that, the back up doesn't take long.

You get to set your preferences for how often you want it to back up and how much of your computer's memory [processing speed] you want it to use when it does this. This determines how fast it transfers the data.

It's about $55/year and I like knowing I have offsite backup that will be there for me if something happens to us physically here {fire, tornado, flood}.

Good idea. I did a back up over the weekend, but I've never really given a thought to using a cloud type service.

I got it on their Black Friday sale for $11 for the year. I have still not backed up my computer though because it is taking forever! Literally forever. My hubby got irritated with the fact it said it would take 37 days to back up, so I never finished. He is away this week, so I have been keeping the computer on so it backs up. But it is slowwwww. I have almost 400k files and in the past 48 hours it has backed up only 50k. At this rate it may take 37 days. How long did yours take initially. Of course our file count will vary but just curious about seeing a light at the end of the tunnel.

Just bought a hard drive for this very purpose, and have already backed up! Great reminder. I have lost photos in the past, and it made me so sad.

I don't remember the specifics on the amount of data, but it took me about 2 months to back up initially on CrashPlan. I just left my laptop constantly running, so that it would continue to back-up while I was sleeping/at work. However, now that it is fully backed-up, I can upload pics and they are backed-up by the next morning. Hang in there...
